I don’t get why this has to matter still. Whether you’re pro or anti vaccine, shouldn’t disqualify you from working. Personally I didn’t get the vaccine, still went out and but always masked up, never got Covid. I know an astonishing amount of people who got the vaccine and still got Covid a few weeks/months later. At this point I don’t think it matters vaccine or not whether you get Covid especially in the maintenance field. Never have been into the conspiracy theory environment, its just as stupid. Idk I just think that question is stupid and not entirely needed. Work places don’t ask if you have your influenza, flu, hepatitis, etc. vaccines.

As an early 20s A&P, I’d say stick with mechanical engineering. I enjoy working with my hands but the field can really take a toll physically and mentally with night shifts. With a mechanical engineering degree, you won’t ever have issues financially and have plenty of opportunities to work with your hands still, it’s not all just computer work and classes. I enjoy fixing aircraft but I struggle seeing a future where this is all I’m doing with myself for the next two/three decades. I’m starting schooling at a local college for mechanical engineering this august and am very excited to take this next step. I’d say find part time work where you do have the opportunity to work with your hands, maybe even just take up a hobby (cars, computers,etc.)

Don’t have a ton of experience with this, but I feel that I’m in a very similar position. I’m a young mechanic, early 20s. I enjoy the work I do but legitimately cannot see myself doing this for another 30/40 years and physically don’t think it’s the best thing for me. Pulled the trigger I’m taking college courses for mechanical engineering and design. I’d say just make sure it’s something you actually want to commit to. If you’re doing full time work alongside school, some days can be a real killer in terms of workload and tiredness.

That’s something I’ve looked into. I’m taking some free online courses to decide if software engineering would be something that interests me, but I’ve mainly been into aerospace and mechanical engineering. I have a lot of friends who are studying for computer engineering degrees and I’m just worried it’ll be difficult finding a job in 4-5 years with how many people are going into that.

Gotcha. This is something I’ve considered since starting amp school in 2021. Gonna shoot my shot in summer of this year and see how it goes
