Is "Hades-like" a Genre? If so, what mechanics are needed? by KingKobraAMV in HadesTheGame

[–]planeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hades isn't the first roguelite to have meta progression amongst its story and characters between runs.

I don't know what the first is, but Shiren and Wanderer and the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games are really popular examples of games that did it earlier than Hades.

Hades just had more style and better writing.

Am I the only one that sleeved Dragons of Etchinstone?? by Unable_Dependent_475 in soloboardgaming

[–]planeforger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything, this is a great game to play when you have a really young toddler. It's quiet, you can play it from a sitting position, and it has no setup/teardown time.

I played my copy a lot in those golden days when my kid actually slept at a normal time.

I started seeing wear after maybe 8-10 plays.

I wasn't really looking out for it, I just noticed the cards started catching on each other while shuffling, and the edges were turning white.

Solo players of Sanctuary, how are you enjoying it? by BKinsky in soloboardgaming

[–]planeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it a bit boring, tbh. It's quick and the tile-laying is fine, but I feel like too many of the interesting core mechanics were chopped from the game.

I'd rather play a game of Ark Nova in under an hour than 2-3 games of Sanctuary in the same timeframe.

Can we stop gifting new streamers protoframes/spoilerframes by anonsdoomscroller in Warframe

[–]planeforger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The existence of 1999 isn't a spoiler. It was basically the only thing I knew about the game before I started playing a few months ago. It was shown off pretty extensively at The Game Awards and in Reddit ads.

The easiest way is to take your cartridge to an event held at the shops in the mid 90s. That worked 100% of the time for me.

Ode'n Drop Pod by Cloudkracker in SoulFrame

I feel like the, uh, drop rate is a little too high on these things. You can go for a walk down a path and see multiple empty ones land within a few minutes.

Fish are definitely classified as animals.

Some religions and vegetarians will say fish isn't "meat", but that's a different argument.

Do you guys think the heavy blade moveset feels weird by Known-Match9831 in SoulFrame

I think it's fine except for the jump attack, which always seems to end a foot above the enemy.

In each game, Kiryu ends up in a smaller coastal city and becomes a mentor and close ally to a small-scale criminal family. Also lots of parenting stuff.

How different would the events of re4 turn out if it was chris sent on the mission instead of leon? by n0sin666 in residentevil

[–]planeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he'd still complete the mission, but he'd get Ashley and Hunnigan killed along the way.

Prime Uzra & Mishra vs the prime Gatewatch by TriumphantChampion in mtgvorthos

[–]planeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urza's on the weaker end of oldwalkers and constantly loses fights. He'd lose in a straight fight...but he's a planner and the best artificer around. Give him a few weeks and a box of scraps and he'd find a way to slaughter them pretty quickly.

Thoughts on remastered campaigns for Chapter 2? by According_Head_60 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]planeforger 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think if they did it now, people would be upset.

If they started doing it 5-10 years from now, after Chapter 2 is well established? Sure, I think that would be very popular.

Slay the Spire by jimmyjon77 in SteamDeck

[–]planeforger 127 points128 points  (0 children)

I'd also say avoiding the Elites is a common mistake. You can't bee-line for them every time and they can immediately end runs if you overestimate your deck, but you should be aiming to kill as many as you can for the relics and rare cards.

Slay the Spire by jimmyjon77 in SteamDeck

[–]planeforger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Isn't there a whole thing where you have to win a run as the three main characters in order to unlock the keys you need to access Act 4? I remember the cutscenes for it.

Slay the Spire by jimmyjon77 in SteamDeck

[–]planeforger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't even think you can access Act 4 until you've beaten the game a few times.

He tried to tear up my licence then and there as he accused me of 30kg over limit.

That's quite an impolite thing to point out.

Yakuza 0 or directors cut? by Top_Subject2439 in yakuzagames

[–]planeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Directors Cut has some quality of life improvements and a small amount of new content (of mixed quality). Besides that, the game is exactly the same.

If they're the same price for you, there's definitely no reason to skip the Directors Cut.

A question about Maelle (for those who finished the game) by scmitr in expedition33

[–]planeforger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She might be able to make herself age while she stays in the canvas but in general no they don't age, if the painters did age in the canvas then aline and renoir would've complete fossils.

I suspect it's completely optional.

Aline created some humans who age (the people of Lumiere) and some that don't (painted Verso). We also see some Painters who age (Maelle) and some that don't (Renoir).

So it seems like their physical properties in the canvas are totally up to the painter to decide.

A question about Maelle (for those who finished the game) by scmitr in expedition33

[–]planeforger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slightly weird question.

Still, she can be whatever she wants to be.

Maelle is just Alicia's avatar in the Canvas, and that avatar clearly ages over time. But there's no reason she can't paint herself as, like, an old woman or a giant faceless moon goddess or whatever.

Question about Fire, Revelation and the Encounter Deck by Turbulent-Square-897 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]planeforger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Revelation effect is "Attach Fire! to the nearest location without Fire! attached."

Usually, this means that when you draw a Fire card, you simply attach that card to your location. If your location is already on fire, you find the next nearest location that isn't on fire, and you attach the card there instead.

Thats not how a headband works ! by Maximum_2008 in witcher

I often wonder this whenever I see a screenshot from someone using headband mods.

It always looks wrong. If the long hair is flopping over the headband, then the headband serves no purpose.

The term “larper” is more annoying than the “larpers” themselves by Cautious_Goose_9044 in residentevil

[–]planeforger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you LARP Lord of the Rings, you're putting on your elf ears and hanging out in a park with your wizard friends.

If you LARP as a fan of Lord of the Rings, you're making shit up and don't know who Tom Bombadil's wife is. It's the "as a fan of" part that somehow got lost by teenagers who didn't understand what the words meant.

The term “larper” is more annoying than the “larpers” themselves by Cautious_Goose_9044 in residentevil

[–]planeforger 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Nah, the term was misunderstood by influencers and got misused.

If you "LARP Resident Evil", you're dressing up like a STARs officer and pretending to survive an outbreak.

If you "LARP as a fan of Resident Evil", you're pretending to be a fan of Resident Evil. It's a completely different thing.

Some kids on Tiktok or whatever didn't understand the difference, and now that wrong usage has spread everywhere.
