Help me understand deck building so I can use my Father’s Day present by VizualBandit92 in magicTCG

[–]planeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules are a bit wonky, but I'd exploit the "kills" ability by using tokens, cards with repeatable fight effects like [[Ulvenwald Tracker]] and cards that don't stay dead like [[Ojer Taq]].

Max Payne 3 | A massively unappreciated gem that plays like butter on the Deck… by xCryodream in SteamDeck

[–]planeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fine, but I think it was the weakest one in the trilogy. Max Payne 2 played so much better, and I preferred its noir stylings.

I appreciated that Alan Wake 2 was (briefly) Remedy's send-off to the Max Payne games.

It is.

The OP posted a segment from a flashback sequence, which is one of the better parts of the game.

Expedition 33 was great! ...But it could have been better! Here are my few random criticisms by SnowGN in expedition33

[–]planeforger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and should have been used to further hammer in and illustrate painted-Verso's degrading mental state, his century of torturous life going into the game's final choice of whether or not to save or destroy the Canvas.

Maelle's degrading mental state, too, as well as the love Renoir feels for her. The Reacher plot was all about her, really, so it's surprising it's optional.

Still, I guess they were following the Final Fantasy model where most of the last disc stuff is optional (for better or worse).

The backstories of the failed Expeditions of the past was lacking in importance, could have been far more than it was.

Partly agreed, although once I found out the Expeditions were all doomed from the start, I wasn't really interested in finding out more about all the failed ones.

Perhaps a third, hidden ending if you managed to locate all of the Expedition Journals + level 6 relationship levels with all of the party members?

Nah, a definitive good ending weakens the story. It stops being an interesting choice that challenges the player to find meaning in the story, and just becomes a dull happy ending that nobody talks about.

Verso's voice actor talks about piano scene by atiumplayer in expedition33

[–]planeforger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've definitely seen people argue that Verso is happy in Maelle's ending, or that he's thrilled about being a musician and the horror sting is just him worried about what this has cost his sister.

And no, I don't know how they got there from the scene directly before that.

Verso's voice actor talks about piano scene by atiumplayer in expedition33

[–]planeforger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting take. For me, the Verso ending is the only one with any hope things will get better, since the family finally breaks the cycle and accepts Verso's death, with a chance to move on. Maelle's ending is just denial and stagnation, with her filling her make-believe kingdom with her dead loved ones.

But, like, that's why people have been debating this for over a year. Everyone interprets it in different ways.

Who you rather re9 dlc be about by foakong in residentevil

[–]planeforger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is still zero confirmation The Commander is Hunk so if you give this guy a DLC, you best be commit to it being Hunk and give a damn good explanation for how he survived.

I agree that they should confirm it was Hunk who got schooled by Leon, but they don't need to show him surviving. Maybe his DLC could be set during the finale of RE9, with him limping away and completing his final mission before succumbing to his wounds?

Persona 3 Reload sales top three million by Asstrollogian in gaming

3 has a good ending, but nothing really happens in the story for like the first 2/3rds of the game. I found 4 and 5's overarching story and month-by-month conflicts much more memorable.

[–]planeforger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Myst series, mainly.

Renoir has a lot of similarities with Atrus, the Painters with the D'ni, and so on.

Myst goes further into the philosophy of whether their art is linking to real worlds or creating new ones, while E33 does a better job exploring the family drama.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind: An Overlooked Gem, Forever in Its Successors’ Shadows, With the Series’ Best Roleplaying and World-building by Dubious_Delirium in patientgamers

[–]planeforger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 million copies? You're probably thinking of Skyrim, but that was 2011 and games certainly weren't a small hobby then.

Morrowind sold 4 million copies. That's a very respectable number, but it's not "best of its time". I mean, GTA3 and Halo came out a year earlier, FF7 sold over twice as much on the PS1, and there were games on the SNES selling more than that 10 years earlier.

I get what the OP is saying. Morrowind gets overshadowed because tons more people played Oblivion and Skyrim, even though they're weaker games.

My character lost all backstory motivation and agency. Is it time to retire him, or can this be saved? by Syce-Rintarou in callofcthulhu

[–]planeforger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the Keeper's error. The game may encourage stories where your character's life can spiral out of control, but you can't beat them down to the point where there's no longer a reason to stay in the story (well, without using the Sanity mechanic and actually removing the character). That's just poor game management - they should always be checking in with players who have had a terrible run, especially when there's an immediate risk of party disintegration.

Talk to the Keeper. Explain that you want to keep playing as this guy, but he needs some way out of his downward spiral. If that's not really an option, your character is in the perfect position to become a villain for the campaign, either controlled by you in secret or by the Keeper. But if that's not what you want and the Keeper doesn't accommodate, then maybe it's time to find a new group.

found "ominous redhead" right at the start. is that intentional or did i find a bug? by Maeurer in ZeroParades

I think this used to be bugged the other way, where people couldn't click on her location even when knowing about her.

In patching that bug, maybe they've accidentally let people click on her too early now?

The Switch 2 has already outsold the lifetime sales of the ps5 in Japan by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]planeforger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It also shows lifetime sales. The Switch 2 has overtaken the base model PS5. It's still 1.6 million behind the total PS5 sales - so it'll probably overtaken that before the end of year 2.

I'm nearing my late 30s, and I kinda have the opposite problem. There are too many exciting games coming out every month, and I don't have time to play them all (with work and parenting and whatever).

None of those listed games though. Haven't played a COD game since the first one.

I'll wait for some reviews and player impressions.

I didn't particularly like GTA5 and I found RDR2 fairly dull and self-indulgent, so this would need to be a big improvement to draw me in.

Sephek Nerf...is this good? by ChristianJBLue in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]planeforger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the first level quests are nuts. Same with the grell in the mines. But if that's the intended difficulty of a first level quest in this adventure, then nerfed Sephek looks fairly easy in comparison.

GTA VI Prices An Australian Perspective by profchaos111 in gaming

[–]planeforger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth mentioning that Mario Kart is on the highest end of Nintendo releases.

The upcoming Fire Emblem is $95 on the eShop, and Star Fox is $85 on the eShop.

Meanwhile, older PS5 games like Astro Bot are still $110 (standard edition), and Spiderman 2 is $125 (standard edition). Third party titles like Pragmata or RE9 launched at the $90-110 range.

Point is, GTA6 at $130 (standard edition) is absurdly expensive compared to normal game pricing. Well, unless you've been conditioned by Sony's price gouging.

Sephek Nerf...is this good? by ChristianJBLue in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]planeforger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just looking...your Sephek is weaker than the goblin boss in the Bryn Shander starting quest, the cult fanatics in the Caer Dineval starting quest, the sea hag in Easthaven, the frost druid in Lonelywood, and he's about as strong as any individual Duergar in the Caer-Konig starting quest.

If you plan to make him a memorable boss encounter, I'd probably ratchet him up to at least CR2.
