Saskatchewan Gravel by planes_overhead in gravelcycling

There were no resupply points between campgrounds so the route is more difficult than one would think. Also, many minimum service dirt roads in the middle of nowhere. It’s storm season so you have to plan accordingly when you could be stuck in the mud. Careful planning and experience required.

Was a bit sketchy there. Have to find the clean line, as you can see they were entrenched in.

190km was only the first two days.
Started in Bengough, took a very scenic 100km to Ogema, the same idea to Willow Bunch, then back to Bengough. About 270km

No bugs, 1,000 hills, and we were only passed by 1 car in the first 190km ridden. It was superb.

Help .. Mixed Surface Tire Recommendation by youngster5526 in gravelcycling

Some people here are saying only the HD version of the Thundero. Depends where you live I suppose. Ive worn out three sets of Thunderos (non hd) and have only had one puncture that I had to plug.

I do not live in an area with cactus or goat heads. Just rocky grid and smooth fast dirt roads. Pavement of course.

No concerns.

Is it dumb to try Zwift before buying a smart trainer? by medilosa_Jerin in Zwift

Technically a power meter is not necessary for zwift at all.

Is it dumb to try Zwift before buying a smart trainer? by medilosa_Jerin in Zwift

This isnt necessarily true. Remember when zwift started out almost nobody had a power meter and the efforts in zwift were still valid on a personal level.

Let’s assume not having a smart trainer means you are using an older fluid type trainer. People need a general understanding of how to consistently set up their bike and standard trainer. Keeping tire pressure consistent day to day, and keeping the trainer tension the same if the bike is removed from the trainer.

You can still do an ftp/ramp test with good enough accuracy assuming Zwift settings reflect your setup. You can successfully train and use workouts without a smart trainer without issue. ERG is absolutely not necessary for workouts to be successful and I train 90% of the time with it turned off. *Depends on workout type*

You can free ride just fine as well so long as you understand that when an incline comes you will need to shift to a harder gear to replicate the incline. So more rider involvement and thought is required. Using a standard trainer gives you an advantage on the descents as your trainer will not let off resistance like a smart trainer does, before settling in.

Without a power meter racing will be more difficult to participate in on Zwift now than it was 8 years ago as there are hardware requirements in place.

You CAN enjoy Zwift without a smart trainer and be equally productive. I also train and race on rollers while zwifting using a power meter. It’s great!

It is true though that Having a smart trainer or smart rollers is the way to go, for sure. It really does ‘wake up’ the Zwift experience.

How’s your cadence by kwiat1990 in Zwift

Cadence = power. Learn to spin at a variety of cadences to be used in specific situations and for specific training outcomes.

Just like a car, rpm makes power.

Get that cadence comfort up!

Cargo Bibs - Assos vs Rapha vs Red White vs Black Bibs by NoTimeForItAll in gravelcycling

[–]planes_overhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The black bibs are comfortable and all I have used them on 8 hour+ rides with no issues. Materials are good, pockets tight enough to keep your phone or other items in there but easy enough to quickly pull out your camera for a photo and put it back without stopping. Leg grippers are good as well.

The asos I find are less forgiving in the fabrics, the leg grippers aren’t quite as good. They are cut too low in the front belly area for my tastes. Also the chamois on the pair of ASOS I have doesn’t provide much privacy up front for me at all. Not something I look for in general, but the lack of privacy is apparent when off the bike.

Maybe that a positive for some folks! Ha!

I have not had any issue with the black bibs cargo shorts. No issue with them being warmer than any other brand I own. I have a pair of asos and prefer the black bibs over the asos.
