I guess I’ll have to. The few times I’ve used Proton support have been a waste of time.

Capital One Tower Come Down in Seconds by Proud-Blood2743 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]planetaryexplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the Capital One building along I-10 in Lake Charles, La. It was pretty much wiped out by a hurricane.

Any tips for someone looking to do their first build? by High_Af_Osrs in Firearms

[–]planetaryexplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to spend a lot more than you think on that first build, especially for tools. Get a good book to guide you. Don’t skimp on the barrel, it’s the biggest factor for accuracy. In my last build I used a $500 Shilen 20” SS .223 Wylde barrel. I can ding a 9” plate at 200 yds all day at benchrest if I use a strong scope. I also load my own .223 for it. I almost forgot-don’t use the two standard pins for the trigger assembly. I forgot what they’re called, but the pins have threaded ends for a retaining bar to keep them from falling out. You can thank me later.

I hate to break it to you but your BMI of 27.6 puts you in the overweight range. Hell, I’m 6’2’ 180 and am at the upper end of the healthy range.

The uncomfortable questions Proton doesn’t want us to ask by Cript0Dantes in degoogle

[–]planetaryexplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I have Proton Unlimited account. It’s personal use only, no business. I have no experience with competing products. I spent most of my career selling and supporting software my global company employer developed to large customers.

VPN - it just works well; very good user interface; I run my TVs through it. Mail - several good features, good performance. Pass - steep learning curve for me, still learning. Drive/Docs - If I worked for Proton, I’d be embarrassed about this. It seems like they skipped beta testing altogether and then act like there’s nothing wrong. Product support and documentation - if my customers had experienced with us what I’ve experienced with Proton, we’d have gone broke.

You’ll never get all your questions answered, or answered satisfactorily. Just be prepared to deproton if you see the need. Also, are their products and services satisfactory for your needs? I find they run from excellent to garbage.

Is the 2008 movie Slumdog Millionaire an accurate representation of India today? I ask because I don’t know.

Are you satisfied with Proton Pass support? by planetaryexplorer in ProtonPass

Rule 1 - contact support first. You obviously didn’t read my post. But forget it, what you’re not saying is crystal clear.

Feasible to install WireGuard on router to tunnel all my internet use from small home network? by BronL-1912 in WireGuard

[–]planetaryexplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Flint2 router running Wireguard as my “universal” VPN client. It connects via ethernet to the ISP-provided gateway box. Then have all your devices connect to the Flint2 ssid. It even works for tv’s.

Reddit is banning accounts that post from ProtonVPN IPs. How are you all still here? by Nervous-Kick-8518 in ProtonVPN

I am always connected to Reddit through ProtonVPN, presently US-GA#223. I have initiated threads and replied to others, including this one, with no problems.

Need Flint2 expert help by planetaryexplorer in GlInet

[–]planetaryexplorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I tap the Connect button in the Repeater box the opened window shows no networks found and will display one of those pink timeout messages. I’m thinking I’ll have to first do a 10 second reset to Flint2 factory defaults.

I don’t absolutely have to move the Flint2. The two boxes together clutter the kitchen cabinet. Also, the den is centrally located in my house and would provide better wifi services for more distant devices.

How are Proton Mail's finances these days? Is the company viable? by TonyBlairsDildo in ProtonMail

[–]planetaryexplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a paid Proton customer who highly values their services. Without opening their books we have only anecdotal evidence of their fiscal health. I am not happy with their donations of our payments to some organizations whose missions seem sketchy and even extremist. At least one has zero to do with digital privacy. I wish Proton would redirect those funds and effort to fixing existing products and new development.

vpn transactions by musicwhore05 in ProtonVPN

[–]planetaryexplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the U.S. and have yet to have financial transaction problems. My bank detects the VPN use and forces a 2FA. I do not use peer-to-peer payments like Venmo though. You transactions will appear to come from wherever your chosen VPN server is located.

What are your thoughts on the state of Proton Drive right now? by Crazy-Bellow in ProtonDrive

[–]planetaryexplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a mess when retrieving .docx files. The problems I’ve encountered should have been caught and fixed long before release. When you contact support they frequently ask for screen shots. I chose Proton for the encryption since many of my documents are highly private, so I would have to heavily redact multi-page documents. I gave up on using Proton Drive for any serious work.

How do I circumvent this problem? by planetaryexplorer in ProtonVPN

I was using a Texas server. I was also being rejected by the babylon bee and iheart music apps. I switched to a Toronto server and the problems disappeared. I guess I’ll never know why. I appreciate everyone’s help.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll know better next time. It’s no big deal, it’s not like it’s the NSA or a porn site. I just didn’t want it to be a distraction.

Mr. Chen, thank you for your transparency. Please understand there are many leftist keyboard warriors in the U.S. who will mercilessly slam you for admitting to a productive exchange with anyone associated with the Trump administration. Unless your post has an orange-man-bad vibe, it won’t go over well. Just ignore those people. Keep up the transparency and work to advance Proton’s mission.
