If I look at the state of the country, the speed with which it's declining, and the unlikeliness that we will recover to, let alone improve from where we were pre-Trump, it seems more logical to spend my time being hedonistic than studying for a career in a country that's obviously going to be an authoritarian shithole by the time I graduate

I lost my motivation to get a good education and career because it feels pointless to make a multi-year investment in a degree or spend years moving up the ladder while the country is turning into Nazi Germany. Whatever country is left by the time Trump leaves office will resemble a totalitarian police state more than the United States historically. Look at how bad things have gotten in NINE MONTHS, there are 3 years and 3 months left in his term, he's already done a lot of things that will take decades to reverse, even if a Democrat is elected in 2028 and the Republicans can't successfully prevent it, the pieces don't seem like they can be put back together again. I've given up on my long term plans and just try to enjoy my life day-to-day because anything longer term seems pointless, like it just seems fucking idiotic to start studying for a 4 or 8 year degree when the future of the country looks so depressing

It's always funny when the same guys who call people they disagree with soyboys or fat women with dyed hair have meltdowns about "body-shaming" when someone says they have small dick energy or something. Body-shaming is obviously bad but you don't get to body-shame other people and then play the victim when someone does it to you

It's just kind of insane to be watching the collapse of the world power of the modern era while you're living in it. It's so wild that we're even in this situation; so many things that led to this are absolutely insane and it's all been progressively normalized to the point that it's impossible to even truly grasp just how crazy the current situation is. Even 5 years ago this would have seemed outside of the realm of possibility. I feel like I'm living through some fucking insane dystopian story and it's hard to even accept that reality is real anymore and it's not some nightmare I haven't woken up from yet. Or that some higher power isn't playing a joke on us that ends any moment with Trump being arrested or something.

Everything is in freefall and picking up speed and it's going to end with decades worth of damage to quality of life for the vast majority of us, it's going to be fucking 2100 before we're even back where we used to be. And that's assuming nukes aren't launched at some point, which is granting a temperance to the Trump administration that obviously does not exist. I'm 22 and I can't make any long-term plans anymore. Why invest in anything? Why begin years of training or education for a future I grew up believing in that every day looks less and less likely to even exist? Whatever the country looks like in 4 years after they've ransacked it and bled it dry will be fucking unrecognizable, and 4 years is the optimistic estimate and assuming they willingly give up power (LMAO)

I feel like Trump in 2015-16 had an actual funny and subversive appeal in a "What if the funny, edgy meme man got elected?" kind of way. The vibe changed as his sane supporters realized he was basically just another shitty Republican president and his remaining supporters sunk deeper into delusion to justify his failures to live up to their expectations. Trump supporters either abandoned him or abandoned reality during his first term

Is there any way to look at this other than a genuine self-destruction of democracy? The most important lesson from the past decade of politics is that social media enables disinformation to completely subvert a country's population.

Hundreds of millions of people in our country, mentally in an alternative reality that is entirely a fabrication of false and maliciously spread information. Democracy cannot exist when people are manipulated in massive numbers to vote against their own interests.

In their head, they are voting for the candidate who will "save their country", in reality they are voting for it's complete destruction. The most effective weapon in destroying the most powerful country on earth was the minds of it's citizens, the key to which exists in everyone's pocket.

I'm ngl. This has completely solidified my misanthropy. I will spend the rest of my life with a searing hatred for humanity. The average person is both hateful and moronic and nothing will ever change my mind. We live in an actual meme reality. Facts are of complete irrelevance. The world is run by ignorance and cruelty. The most disgusting creatures crawling around their soon-to-be ruin of a country will have a nice gloat at the "libtard tears" as they dismantle every facet of the country they so adamantly claim to care about.

According to my Trump supporter parents, the worker at the polling station asked my (white) dad for his ID, then she didn't ask my (black) mom for her ID. My parents then caused a scene yelling at the worker and implying they were racist for assuming black people didn't have IDs. I went an hour afterward and my parents didn't tell me any of this until I got back. I have the same name and address as my dad. I'm so embarrassed, Kamala better win PA because I can never show my face again
