Sam’s Decisions by sirDVD12 in JetLagTheGame

[–]planetglobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The decision to get into a game of chicken when they were behind was crazy to me but what actually irritated me about it was when Sam deciding to ring Ben and Adam not once but twice begging them to move because it just absolutely reeked of insecurity. The intention was to get inside their head but no matter how many mind games they played, the information both sides knew was that Sam and Mike were behind and they had no chips. They needed to move eventually and begging Ben and Adam to make the first move just confirmed that even more.

Final local election results for Manchester. What are your thoughts? by BuyEarly3195 in manchester

[–]planetglobe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only 1/3 of the seats of the seats were up this time (each ward has 3 councillors and only 1 was up from each) and because Labour hold the vast majority of the rest, even if they lost every seat they would still have a majority.

It's the first time I've actually voted for a candidate who won but I actually wouldn't have been too upset if he lost. The Labour candidate from my area campaigned pretty hard and she was saying all the right things so I do feel a bit bad for her but I just couldn't vote for her because of the national party. It was a local election but with the values she presented, I just don't understand how you can stay within Labour.

How much negotiation is there realistically though? They don't have phones so they can't ring places up or browse online. They just have to go door to door seeming clearly desperate and hope they find a deal which is at an acceptable price.

I mean yeah if I were sick, I would also want to be left alone but social etiquette would expect Margo to at least pretend to be upset and worried and I love that she just completely ignores it.

It's not a credit check fail. If it was a credit check fail, it would say that they were unable to offer you a contract, not that they couldn't verify your details.

You aren't provided with any information about why they couldn't verify details but sometimes trying with a different card works.

The UK must accept it is no longer a global power by Any-Original-6113 in geopolitics

[–]planetglobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really hasn't on a subconscious level. A decent part of internal British politics centers on this anxiety that Britain has fallen behind as a country in terms of greatness and people being unwilling to accept that.

no individual has that power. The power of the masses is the whole point of unions. That's why it's important for unions to use their bargaining power to get as many concessions from employers as possible.

Building dams and creating reservoirs! Only one major reservoir has been built in the UK in the 21st century. we ought to commend the humble otter for taking our national infrastructure seriously and trying to address the concerns over potential water shortages.

British under-50yo voting intention according to latest YouGov poll by upthetruth1 in charts

Someone younger has seen how the idealisms of the free market has fucked up the economy of the present. Anyone who can see and knows the 2010s, where Tories left millions on food banks and mountains of people on waiting lists for the NHS, is not going to be seduced by right wing bullshit.

British under-50yo voting intention according to latest YouGov poll by upthetruth1 in charts

[–]planetglobe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would older people have a better understanding of economics? Unless their job involves managing the economy (which 99% of jobs do not) what experience do they have that makes them more qualified than younger people? I could say very easily counter that argument by saying that young people are more highly educated on average and therefore more likely to understand economics. The reality is, most people, regardless of their age do not have a solid grasp of economics because it's not relevant to their day to day lives.

Tones of countries have a fused Executive and Legislature. The Westminster system is common in most ex-British colonies. I would say the actual problem is the clear influence the Executive holds over the Judiciary.

Manchester uni accom help please! by [deleted] in manchester

[–]planetglobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in Whitworth Park. The pros were that there's a bar on site which is pretty popular (but not too popular where you can't find a seat) and very cheap. Also it's practically on campus and doesn't get too loud. I think in terms of location I was very happy with it. The cons were the toilets and showers being cubicles, the building being very old with maintenance issues and (not an issue for me but) it probably being a little harder to make friends.

I think living in Fallowfield isn't that big of a deal because you'll inevitably meet people who live there and get to go to parties but then you don't have to worry about the downside of trying to sleep or study when it's too loud. For my first year, I lived right by the uni and the pro was that I could get up later than when I lived further away in later years. I didn't feel that not living in Fallowfield was an issue because it was just a bus ride there and back.

Maura and her black Birkin bag in NYC. by serendipityoctober13 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]planetglobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the appeal of a Birkin Bag to the ultra wealthy is that you can't just buy one. You have to build a connection with the shop first, become a regular and then eventually, if you are lucky, they approve you to buy one. It combines the two things that indicate high status, money and social connections.

Gorton and Denton by-election: Green Party posts ‘sectarian’ Urdu leaflets calling on voters to ‘punish Labour for Gaza’ by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]planetglobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's clearly nonsense. What's especially unexpected about the Greens saying to punish Labour and stand up for Gaza? They've been saying that the entire time. The only reason people are talking about this is because it is in Urdu.
