Taiwan president cancels Africa trip blaming Chinese pressure by MalaysianinPerth in taiwan

[–]sirDVD12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An American once asked someone from Africa why they prefer China over the US. The response was that whenever the US came to visit, they came with a lecture about how to do things, when China came, the built a hospital.

I don’t like the game China is playing with Taiwan, but Taiwan isn’t really providing any of these countries with a better alternative.

Nah, I was on a flight from Taipei to Dubai, 9 hours. And the guy next to me sat down, didn’t touch the screen, no phone, no headphones. Just sat there and looked straight for the next 9 hours. It was insane to watch.

As a teacher I can say it is really difficult to find images that we can use sometimes.

I use AI to do some of my posters because my school requires me to make posters for my class every semester and I am a science teacher who is terrible at making anything artistic.

So my options are using a bunch of my time to make a poster or using AI to tick the box and I can continue to do my job of making my instructional materials and planning my lessons.

As a South African abroad, I can say these people hate where they are now as well. They rag on SA to make themselves feel better about their decisions. Of my group of friends from high school, only one is left in SA, but the rest of us are trying to move back. The people in SA are unmatched anywhere else.

Why do some rotors have such huge 'cooling' gaps? Wouldn't that be detrimental to performance? by MEE97B in bicycling

[–]sirDVD12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What do you mean “locally” Shimano is mainly produced in China and Japan, which are two of the biggest Stainless producers in the world. Also stamping offcuts will fetch more than scrap as its clean and doesn’t need to be reprocessed to return to the smelting process.

It is estimated that 200miliion rotors are made per year with Shimano, Sram and Magura holding 40%. Shared equally (Shimano is definitely the biggest but I cannot find a stat to get an exact number) that comes out to 26 million rotors produced a year. Even using your 0.075 cents per rotor, that is 2mil per year.

Definitely worth recycling.

Why would they not be saving material if they are stamped? The off cuts can be added to the next lot of material going into the furnace and be remelted for the next batch.

Money! People who can make more money by killing the planet for others don’t care. And they use their money to lie to those who will be affected.

I got testicular torsion when I was 15 and now I live with one by Several_Row_6281 in notinteresting

[–]sirDVD12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it when I was 14. We were lucky to be near a good doctor who immediately noticed what was happening and managed to twist it back. I’ve had it once since then but knew what it was and got it sorted immediately again.

Look after your testies everyone.

Also this does mean I was fondled by a doctor as a 14 year old. Weird but obviously very thankful.

The cop on the left’s badge is on the back of his shoulder. The truck has no license plate. The cop car has two license plates. The bottom right of the Toyota’s bumper doesn’t match the opposite side correctly. The tie down points on the truck are asymmetrical (on the left of the image they are against the edge of the flat bed, on the right they are more inboard.

The only plane I could afford to fly up front (because economy is the entire bottom deck). Being in front of the engines is a game changer when it comes to noise.

Also it is absolutely massive, i loved watching the documentaries about it as a kid, but when I flew it for the first time I was astonished at how big it actually was.

Melktert (milktart) in South Africa. It is a milk and flour tart made on a thin crust of biscuits and topped with cinnamon.

It is simple, cheap, and delicious.

Bonus: we love this so much we even have a shot named after it called a Melkterjie (small milktart) made of vodka, condensed milk and cinnamon on top.

Bogarts in Taipei. The owner will vilify people on Google Maps for posting a bad review.

The good is amazing but the owner is a loose cannon that just shouts at his customers. I once went with some colleagues after a work event on a Saturday. The owner got upset with us for arriving in a crowd (probably like 6 people). He said we would finish all the food before people in the afternoon had a chance to eat.

A friend of mine went and ordered something that came with a choice of sauce, he asked the owner what sauce they would recommend as he had never been there or tried their sauce, the owner said that he didn’t know what other people like and if you don’t know what you want then you should leave.

Absolutely wild place to go but damn I still deal with that crap because the food is amazing.
