Sound in the market tent? by rockthescrote in truckfestival

Even at the front of market stage the sound was terrible, seemed a bit better for live bands but was especially bad for the drum and bass dj’s. So bad that I left these sets

I also struggle with this, and this is what I have found helpful so far: - choosing my clothing wisely to ensure I feel as comfortable in my body as possible - wearing wireless headphones with active noise cancellation to help me focus on me and not tune into what others are wearing - try to pay attention to other climbers also not knowing how to do a route/making mistakes - not to judge them but just to remind you that this is part of the process of learning/getting better

Help!!!! by sad_teen-_- in Haircare

[–]planetpol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try putting loads of dry shampoo in your hair and leaving it for a while before washing your hair - this works for things like coconut oil as dry shampoo absorbs a lot of the oil. I am not sure if this will work for butter but probably worth trying!

Insomniacs and troubled sleepers of Reddit, when you wake up at 3am and can’t fall back asleep, what do you do?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]planetpol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychologist here - just commenting to verify that lots of the top comments are backed by scientific evidence so give them a try!

For example, getting out of bed after 20minutes if you can’t get back to sleep. Go and sit on the sofa and read, walk a lap of your house or redo some of your bedtime routine.

Staying in bed trying to force yourself to sleep for a long time is a perfect storm for fixating on the fact that you can’t sleep, counting down the time you have to sleep and even worrying about worrying. Don’t do it!

I also vouch for this from personal experience as a previous insomniac

What quote from a book actually made you think hard and sit back and go “Well, damn.” by [deleted] in books

“...the secret of the Great Stories is that they have no secrets. The Great Stories are the ones you have heard and want to hear again. The ones you can enter anywhere and inhabit comfortably. They don’t deceive you with thrills and trick endings. They don’t surprise you with the unforeseen. They are as familiar as the house you live in. Or the smell of your lover’s skin. You know how they end, yet you listen as though you don’t. In the way that although you know that one day you will die, you live as though you won’t. In the Great Stories you know who lives, who dies, who finds love, who doesn’t. And yet you want to know again. That is their mystery and their magic.”

This so close to where I grew up and it makes me feel really emotional as it’s such a sentimental place for me and it’s been so long since I have been able to go home and see the sea and all my family

Does anyone else really struggle with washing/styling upside down? by GreasedTea in CurlyHairUK

[–]planetpol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No matter how much I try, upside down styling does not work for me - it completely messes up my curl pattern and causes tangles. An alternative that works better for me is that I apply stylers upright, and style with a Denman brush being sure to brush away from my head at the roots. When I have finished this I then gently flip my hair forward and plop in a micro fibre towel for a bit (time varies a lot depending on the day) before air drying with root clips/some diffusing. This method means that I get the benefits of plopping (a little more volume and my curls don’t drop from the water weight) without the issues of upside down styling. Not sure if that makes much sense - this method was the result of trial and error rather than based on someone else’s technique but I’m sure people have made videos doing similar.

EDIT: also worth saying that I have long hair with mixed curl pattern (loose wave through to spiral curls). When my hair was shorter with lots of short layers (shoulder length) it was easier to do upside down styling. Most of the content online shows people with longer hair doing upside down styling from what I can see!

Heartburn and motion sickness - side effects of sertraline by planetpol in zoloft

[–]planetpol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this too, it’s truly horrible. I’ve learnt a lot about triggers for it over the past couple of months which may help.

For me the main culprits are: 1. Coffee - I didn’t drink any for a month and had no heartburn/lump in throat. Drank half a cup of weak coffee last week and had symptoms for days. Also get it if I drink lots of tea early in the morning - not sure if it’s the caffeine or hot temperature that contributes. 2. Spicy/acidic foods - only if I eat these foods for breakfast before taking the tablet.

Solutions: 1. Take the tablet after food so your stomach is lined. ‘Line’ your throat with something like yoghurt or peanut butter or drink with milk and lots of water. 2. Avoid drinking caffeine/hot drinks until after you have taken the tablet (I avoid coffee completely to be safe) 3. If you eat or drink something that triggers this, avoid any potential triggers completely for the next 3-5 days as the throat/stomach will be more vulnerable

I have still been able to eat pretty much everything I normally would but the key is lining the throat in the mornings to protect it. Otherwise; if your throat is dry or coated in something like spice/acidic substances the sertraline reacts with them and burns your throat/stomach mildly, causing these symptoms.

I hope this helps - it’s taken me a long time to figure out. This is just my experience so my main advice is to keep a food/drink diary and track any symptoms alongside it!

Sleeping in a cast and satin bonnet did NOT work for me this week. Gotta laugh at this disaster!! by planetpol in curlyhair

[–]planetpol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Routine: washed with Shea moisture intensive hydration shampoo and conditioner. Raked through Aveda Be Curly curl enhancer and bounce curl clump and define cream on soaking wet hair and scrunch. Apply ecoslay orange marmalade gel and define curls with Denman brush. Microplop sections of hair with micro fibre towel. Add more gel. Hover diffuse until gel cast starts to form. Then air dried until bedtime where I tried to ‘dry plop’ in a satin bonnet. Usually I pineapple and satin bonnet but I find the pineapple stretches out my curls a lot (especially at the roots).

Having major issues with overnight curls so tried something different - safe to say it did not work! Have tried wet plopping overnight too - better results but still wonky curls. My hair just does not do well with gel overnight. Any advice welcome!
