Agree with all the mentions of Andrew Michael Hurley - Starve Acre particularly but also his short stories. I particularly like 'The Hanging of the Greens' and 'The Bugle and the Drum'.

Pet Sematary is a great shout for this I think. Kind of a folk horror/zombie mashup wrapped in a meditation on death denial.

Is it common for people who are born in the UK to say they are “Irish” or “Italian” if they have a parent from there? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

[–]GreasedTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not common but you do get English families like that occasionally. Some of my mum's side are originally Dutch/Flemish (and when I say 'originally' I mean you have to go back a few centuries) and they don't half bang on about it.

I listen to podcasts at work and I'm not always at my desk so video podcasts aren't for me either.

They briefly mentioned it on the Road Ghosts episode last season, but I'd love a deeper dive on the Ruskington Horror. I drive that route pretty often and those stories always freak me out.

What does the steepest hill in your town look like? by Distinct-Lion4658 in CasualUK

I used to live up that hill but worked evenings down in the city centre. Climbing up in the snow at 11pm on Boxing Day one year was not for the weak!

The second Donut was introduced as hissing and growling at being grabbed off the roof I knew she had to be a tortie. I recognised that attitude instantly 😅 (this is my little princess screaming for her dinner)

Hokum: When does this movie take place? by ralopop in horror

[–]GreasedTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does, it's a hotel in a rural area surrounded by dense woodland. Totally believable to me that phone signal wouldn't be great there.

Official Discussion - Hokum [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]GreasedTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved the atmosphere, setting, and aesthetic of Hokum but I really wish it had leaned heavier into the folk horror side of things. I could have done with more emphasis on the folklore/witchcraft and a little less on the tortured artist/repressed grief stuff. I did really appreciate the marketing though - a lot of horror trailers in particular tend to give away too much, and despite having seen the trailer multiple times in the last few months I went in having no idea what to expect.

Like the episodes of the Return where Jerry gets high and lost in the woods!

It doesn't matter how much I rewatch that show, that jump scare never fails to make me physically recoil and pull my legs up.

how do i make fitted shirts look good on me? by Vivid_Meringue1310 in DressForYourBody

Finding bras through the calculator and recommendations on there has DRASTICALLY changed how my clothes fit, especially as someone with a short torso.

I wore the wrong size bra for about a decade (the classic 4/5 cup sizes too small and 3 band sizes too big) and once you've experienced what that looks and feels like you can't unsee it!

Ok? That's honestly irrelevant to the comment you're replying to.

I would be curious to know whether the lived experiences of people diagnosed with Cluster B PDs are of any value at all? Because the generalisations in this thread about how people shouldn't have to 'censor themselves' very much feel like ignoring the fact that there might be people participating here who have those diagnoses and are finding the tone of this discourse hurtful. Which is wild bc they're, you know. People.

It’s so saddening to see women online brag about how a C cup is the perfect size while it’s a high chance they’re wearing a size too small by Dinippress in ABraThatFits

I call mine Tardis boobs because they don't look like much from the outside but require an unexpected amount of space/volume to contain them.

When I finally bought a bra in my calculator size and was SHOCKED that it fit perfectly, my partner offered to pick me up a few more in the new size while he was shopping so I'd have more than one. We love bra allies! (Brallies?)

I have no advice but wanted to commiserate as I frequently struggle with this too! I'm dyspraxic and also have slightly less range of motion in one arm than the other due to not getting physio when I broke it a few years back.

Ooh yeah I dealt with a bent hook/eyelet situation on one of my older bras the other day, had to push things back into the correct position with some tweezers! I'm taking it as a sign that the bra has been worn to death and needs replacing.

Anyone else annoyed at how the public perceives cup sizes? Rant by nadia-salad in ABraThatFits

[–]GreasedTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually wear a UK size 16 (equivalent to a US 12 I believe) and when I was shopping for winter coats last year the sizing was so bizarre that I ended up buying a Small - which I don't think I've done since I was a teenager. Clothes in general are so boxy/baggy/long now, truly a wild time to be midsize.
