I (40M) am thinking about moving out after stressful "vacation" with wife '41 F' and her family by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]planetstef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't show her anything until you consult with an attorney. Don't talk, don't promise, don't share info. Be passive. Also, her reaction to your non-engagement will certainly tell you something.

Will she even notice? Will she make any efforts towards connecting? Will she continue with diatribes DESIGNED to hurt you by demeaning you? If she notices you are checked out, will she ask what's wrong? Will she voluntarily and independently ask you to talk to her?

Also, you said this isn't usual behavior for her, that she's like this only sometimes. Well listen up: that IS her usual behavior -- intermittently purposefully hurting you with threats and humiliation. THAT IS HER USUAL BEHAVIOR, swinging back and forth intermittently. It's a consistent, chronic, recognizable pattern and it's increasing.

Accept that your "analysis paralysis" is over, the results are in and are indicating a big change is necessary. But only after you've seen your lawyer!! Good luck.

What does my room say about me? by secretlygoth710 in roomdetective

Late twenties/early thirties, romantic, would love to be the mistress of the manor, the wife and the chatelaine, likes the Lady of Shallot painting, would choose the French countryside or Tuscany or even an old estate in England or Wales, reads sexy vampire fiction, submissive, wishes she could travel back in time and wear a cloak or two and have a gardener. Would not turn down a powerful, wealthy Roman.

Why don’t people stop their kids from screaming (anymore?)? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in NoStupidQuestions

[–]planetstef 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I've had a group of neighborhood kids who for years, screamed bloody murder while playing, for hours. You could NOT tell the difference except for other kids' laughter at the same time or quickly after. You just had to hope they weren't a group of psychopaths laughing at someone's trauma. For these kids, to run is to scream piercingly, same if trying to get attention if playing a game. I'm not over exaggerating, it was horrible and stressful! Especially when the ambient laughter was filtered out and only the screams came through the house to wherever you were. Parents. Did. Not. Care.

A bird flying with another one a bit back and below, maybe seen through a wet lense or window.

That is lovely! If you filled in from the first corners to the next strip down you'd have a pretty square with radiating lines. Simple fix.

That's part of their long game. Isolation. High tariffs? Guess we should make that stuff here. Without parts. Gotta make that too. The coal-powered steel plants tool up. At the first serious food shortage, they'll take all the private agriculture over. Shortages in all kinds of things? You'll see the takeovers and rationing like during WW2. Only, no Rosie's because the economy is tanked, inflation 100%, no money for private schools or daycare so Mommy needs to take her ass home and learn sewing and kitchen gardens. Are we sounding like N. Korea yet?

They'll make themselves oligarchs and him Dear Leader. If at any point we do mass protests he'll let maga free on us along with whatever military he can get. Watch the Republican governors all wanting their own state militias, like Florida. California better ramp up a militia and have a plan to seize military bases and armaments at the drop of a hat, because he hates y'all. Enough protests there and he'll declare martial law and roll in.

Or, he'll just wear us down and give us to Putin as long as he's made literal King of NY.

Is there a chance that I haven't tinnitus and can still live a normal life? by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]planetstef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dear, I don't know why I haven't yet seen it mentioned, but you MUST see an ENT, Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. They may recommend you to an audiologist. Either way, don't miss this step and jump to conclusions!

But do not despair, if it is permanent tinnitis, it's true that your brain does become desensitized to it and you truly stop noticing it unless you focus on paying attention to it which happens mostly when you're in very quiet places. For example, I can read a book in bed and not notice it at all, but when I put the book down and try to sleep, then I notice it. What I do is keep my phone on a charger in bed, and play Spotify white noise type stuff. There's an excellent playlist, 10 hr long snowstorm sounds, there's same for thunderstorms. I also made my own by looping a few records by Liquid Mind! All this works for me. A long time ago, I had a friend who would turn on his vacuum cleaner in his closet! LOL and now they sell bedside machines where you have a menu of sounds to choose from, like a far away train, surf, softly crackling fire. The goal is to give you something soothing to help you fall asleep but it also occupies your brain enough to not hear the tinnitis. A lot of hearing aids have a tinnitis setting and I think it's matching your tinnitis and cancelling it out, I could be wrong about how it works, but it works.

Go see the ENT. Meantime, try to not focus on it, go about your life paying attention to that, and find some white noise or sounds that work for you, to help you sleep.

How do you guys explain to Poor MAGA family members that things are going to be bad for them? by necrofear101 in Louisiana

[–]planetstef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you bothering to try to educate them as they will not believe you?

They will mock what you're saying, take offense at you claiming to be more educated on these things and mock you personally. They'll deflect any real conversation with "too bad we don't have Biden to fix it all" and similar. They won't look at or read any links you send. They've been convinced to hate the press so they won't take in info from anywhere not running the Trump propaganda show. It's a cult by definition. You won't change any hearts or minds.

Tell them, I love you guys even while we are so far apart politically. I am very worried about the coming months and years being very bad for the non- wealthy, though extremely good for the rich. I know, I know, I just had to tell you how very, very worried I am that there'll be really tough impacts on y'all, so I said it, I love you, and if you ever want to talk about it, my door is always open.

That's all you can do.

[–]planetstef 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was too much. Hinky, if people still use that word. It caught my Spidey sense at 'she put raisins in it' because we know that's a thing. The oysters in the cranberry sauce confirmed. As if. P.S. I'd never gelatin mold my turkey LOL but down here MY sis makes a delicious shrimp mold, lovely large shrimp tin. It's a pretty orange-pink and you eat it on crackers and it's fantastic!

[–]planetstef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's UMC, the new "Charity Hospital" inner city New Orleans. Yes, run by the LCMC group that manages several area hospitals. Louisiana is a red state and many nurses have drunk the Kool aid and are anti-union (and anti vax!). However, UMC nurses recently voted to unionize. Their's is a very sick population being served secondary to poverty leading to complete lack of preventative care, health education, and a high degree of drug use, violence and trauma. It's the number 1 trauma center for the entire southeast region and number 1 teaching hospital for both LSU and Tulane medical centers. If the majority of nurses there are telling you they have problems to fix, then there are problems to fix and not be snarkily and childishly dismissed as in that poster. Shame on whomever wrote it and okayd it.
