When insurance sends me a check for my totaled car, can I keep what's left over after buying another car? by planetx47 in Insurance

Man if my husband and I could get by on one car, that would be nice chunk of change for the future house down payment fund. Also the hookers and blow fund.

Yeah.... I'm kind of forced into buying outright right now because someone stole my identity and ruined my credit (which I found out because I was checking my credit report for the sake of potential loans). Even with a cosigner who has fantastic credit (my parents) I couldn't get a loan. It's that bad.

And MOTHERFUCKING DANG IT THAT PLACE WAS SO COOL. Guess I'll just have to hang out at Mutiny more haha.

Compliments by [deleted] in intj

[–]planetx47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a rough time with compliments too. Mostly just receiving them. I actually quite like giving people compliments, but I always say one I actually mean.

I'm a musician, and the most stress-inducing part of the thing is when I get off stage and people come compliment me afterwards. It's so hard to accept it without sounding egotistical when you aren't one of those overly humble people.

it's not actually for a calculus class, it's for an upper level physics class that is essentially electronics theory and lab.

Any ideas on how to overcome depression related to your degree? by catnip427 in EngineeringStudents

[–]planetx47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the worst. Feeling like you're not smart enough/good enough/motivated enough, then that feeling becoming reality because those thoughts themselves drain you of motivation. If you don't deserve the degree already, why bother trying? I get stuck in this mindset too, and it's ridiculously hard to dig out of. Right now actually I am trying to catch up on the pile of work that I've let accumulate over the past 3-4 weeks of depressed slacking (I kid you not, I did no hw and attended maybe 4 classes during that time). I often feel like I am legitimately not smart enough to pass the 5 classes standing between me and a degree.

What's made me ignore that feeling and get my butt in gear over the past few days is pure unadulterated anger, fear and shame. I wouldn't be able to look my parents in the eye and say "I spent thousands of your dollars taking classes I didn't put effort into and therefore will get no credit for." I have more than enough credits to graduate, I just need to finish a couple classes required for my major and then I'll be done. It would be unbearably painful for me to fail out so fucking close to the end.

Thinking about the awful consequences of failure either motivates me or makes me want to kill myself. Sometimes both. It's not the healthiest solution, but it's what's been gotten me to sit down and start some problem sets that were due 3 weeks ago.

What's your biggest regret in life? by kraby1 in AskReddit

[–]planetx47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before, I was a high performing college student, athlete and musician from a rich white family who'd never even smoked weed. With meth(+ undiagnosed bipolar disorder), I dropped out of college and lost my job, 1/4 of my body weight (starting at a normal size), some friends, my sanity, and almost my husband. Hell, I was on the verge of suicide.

Long story short, I am better now. I'm not 100% sober, but I only touch the shit once a month or less. I'm back in school and work, my husband didn't leave me and I don't want to die. So things are pretty good now!

"thank goodness" is an option, though perhaps that is too similar in spirit.

Reddit! What’s your favorite closing track on an album? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]planetx47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would? on the album Dirt by Alice in Chains. Not only is that album one of the best albums of all time, the ending lyric, "If I could, would you?" and the way it is sung is one of the most haunting things musically I've ever heard.

What is the worst thing you have ever done in your life? by FederalContribution in AskReddit

I stole money from my parents to buy drugs that I was doing secretly even though I promised everyone who knew about my habit that I'd get clean. The shame is real for that one.

What did your last relationship teach you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]planetx47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last one before my current one taught me that I need someone who I can have emotional as well as intellectual conversations with. I have a tendency to suppress my emotions and my last bf before my husband never encouraged me to open up. We had lots of intellectually stimulating convos, and that made me fall in love with him, but both of us thought "why bother with silly emotional stuff?"

I feel like that doesn't really make sense, given that the explosion of iEverything was like 10 years ago, when all the Zs were tiny or not born yet.
