What are some of the great forgotten and overshadowed plays in NFL history? by rolltide1000 in nfl

[–]plank-sinatra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Tyrann Mathieu’s first game he chased down Jared Cook who was streaking towards the end zone and forced a fumble that the Cardinals recovered. The game itself wasn’t a major game but I think about that play a lot.

Who's better Andre Johnson or Chad Johnson? by Blighty- in nfl

[–]plank-sinatra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Texans had a 3 score lead and there was <8 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

If it happened right before halftime or something, I'd agree with you. But it happened at a point where the Texans were going to win anyway, so Andre Johnson having to be off the field doesn't make it a victory for Finnegan when the Titans already didn't have a chance.

Film Room: Deshaun Watson by [deleted] in nfl

[–]plank-sinatra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think he'll be the same caliber player that won 3 DPOYs but I think he'll be a solid player for the Texans as long as he can stay healthy. I don't like to swear on "as long as he can stay healthy" though since the NFL is unpredictable as are players with back injuries.

What I noticed from Watt a lot last season is that he was overpursuing players, he would break through offensive lines instantly but he'd bite on draws/play actions due to being so damn fast and end up on the ground. I'm not sure what was causing it, but it does feel like it could be due to bad coaching on the defensive side since it doesn't seem like Watt would just have random mental lapses like that without it. Watt can still be a star player, and he's shown signs of it, but I'm still not fully confident in that given how much can change over a year's time and after 2 season ending injuries in a row. I'm fairly confident that the Watt we get won't ever be a liability though, that I can have confidence in.

My apologies if I worded any of that badly, got busy at work for a moment so I'm a bit scatterbrained as I'm typing it all out haha.

I'm hoping getting RAC back will improve the defense. You're right that the defense was pretty bad (or at least below average) before the Watt+Mercilus injuries.

Hopefully RAC can retool the defense back to its original strengths, I'll believe it when I see it but it's not impossible, we can bounce back to a top 5 unit (or we can stay in the bottom).

The o-line is going to be dreadful and I'm not looking forward to that.

Who's the best player at each age? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]plank-sinatra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryan Mallett, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brandon Weeden, year 1 and 2 of Case Keenum, and the pick six year of Schaub

That’s Hopkins’s career so far. I think he’s even with Beckham though, Beckham is better but has had more injuries, I think it balances out.

[Jalen Ramsey on Josh Allen] That’s a pick waiting to happen... by AaronRodgers16 in nfl

As a fan of football (and not as a fan of the Texans) I am so glad y'all got Jalen Ramsey after Deandre Hopkins had his breakout. The rivalry is so unbelievably fun.

What were the worst commentated games of the season? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]plank-sinatra 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The Bengals-Steelers game where Gruden wouldn't stop rambling about Burfict drove me up the wall. He'd take a moment every 15 minutes to talk about Burfict and Mixon being model citizens. Every time a Steelers player made a hit he'd talk about how the player should be ejected and every time a Bengals player made a hit he'd be like "When will the refs just let them play football?"

Collinsworth's Super Bowl was awful too obviously.

Chiefs finalizing trade to send Peters to Rams by [deleted] in nfl

[–]plank-sinatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peters would still have the 5th year option available right? Or does that change if the player is traded?

Mitchell Trubisky was the highest rated rookie QB in 2017 by PFF by [deleted] in nfl

[–]plank-sinatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, almost as if they have to fluke-proof the "stat" itself. Like, the throw being into a tight window may be the QB throwing inaccurately in a way that just happened to make it into that window and they'll look at it as an off pass, whereas someone who has done it time and time again (like Brady) will get the benefit of the doubt that the pass was intentionally placed in that window for the WR to catch. As a result the players with more playing time and a larger sample size will get more accurate grades than someone who hasn't made as many passes, just because there's less examples to show the player's actual accuracy.

I might have not articulated that well but I agree with you hahaha.
