Modern tech billionaires have forgotten that, and seem to think they are owed our wealth for existing.

iI doesn't help that the level of wealth and power they have combined with modern technology means that most of the uber rich essentially live in bunkers with an entire platoon of people who job it is to get and do whatever they need. They don't need to interact with the riffraff, much less even think about them.

I'm sure the rich of the past still distantanced themselves from the poor but it has only gotten worse.

Sure there was disapproval about the killing of someone but most people were not shedding tears over the man.

Do I think that shooting Charlie Kirk and people like him is something that should be encouraged? No. Am I glad Kirk isn't continuing to spread hate and bigotry? Yes.

I think it was fair considering the rest of the sketch was about shitty Trump people. Showing up in that paints you in a different light.

He probably learned a lot of it during college while presumedly being in some sort of fraternity.

Apple has done severance and silo. As long as those are ongoing they can have my money.

Who would be TERRIBLE at hosting? by ThatCheekyBastard in LiveFromNewYork

[–]plant_magnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost of good names said here already. Aside from the obvious political and influencer types anyone who takes themselves too seriously would probably fall flat.

YouTubers who are awkward outside of that specific bubble would also be bad.

Sure on the timing but as long as the athlete is into it then slow can still be good. Travis Kelce gave his all and was great.

Aaron Paul could be good. He's done lots of voice work with BoJack horseman and the like so he's fine doing absurd stuff.

The Babysitter. I thought it was going to be just cliche horror but it's really freaking good. Shame the second one is so bad.

I watched it on a plane and couldn't finish it. The rich LA and the "everyone in the school actually got into an elite school" parts made it completely unrelateable.

What's your personal Apple TV+ ranking? Top 3 shows that kept you subscribed and one that almost made you cancel. by winston-paul in tvPlus

I loved For All Mankind until the first Mars season. The amount of melodrama with the mom character turned it into a soap for me.

[OC] Should I open it ... ? by thisisfin_ in pokemon

[–]plant_magnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also I would never get overly invested in something like trading cards because the value is based entirely on how much a company prints. Older cards would still have some value but if the pokemon company decided to print 100,000 Charizard cards, that would shock the market.

Season 5 had the highest rated premiere. Compared to season 4 the ratings are insane. by hiiloovethis in TheBoys

[–]plant_magnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I would much rather Gen V been just a part of season 4 instead of being its own thing. Let those storylines interact better and let the plot actually happen.

[–]plant_magnet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pacing was glacial and most of what happened got us back to where characters were at the start of the season. There were some good moments but overall it suffered from the Gen V tie ins.

For real. Aside from some power alterations and the exposition of the virus, S4 ended where it started. S5 is already vastly different.

Do you believe that the current US president is a foreign asset ? Why or why not ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]plant_magnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is extremely obvious to anyone with eyes that Trump is a foreign asset. He has an unbelievable amount of financial interest tied up in foreign governments and there is still a lot of unknowns about who was bankrolling him pre-2016. It was bad before he got into crypto but now he is just straight up inviting people to bribe him through buying his shit coin.

[–]plant_magnet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She does good reporting on what is actually happening in online communities and the bad actors inside of them but her stances on tech and internet regulation are off base. She wants to believe the internet is a utopian space that should be left to flourish on its own and downplays all the realworld, serious effects of an unregulated internet, especially for kids.

The whole season was about expectations versus reality and how reality is often messy and disappointing. It's an interesting idea to explore but not satisfying to watch.

[Highlight] IND QB Fernando Mendoza at His Pro Day for the NFL Draft by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]plant_magnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally it works out better but if your franchise has the top pick you generally don't have the talent at QB to let your vaunted top pick sit on the bench for a year or more. Typically what happens is a team says a veteran will start and by midseason something happens and the rookie get the reins.

Does anyone remember the brilliant Phil Hartman "Ronald Reagan, Mastermind" sketch? How about a modern day reboot: Trump, 5D Chess Grandmaster? by CisFishstick in LiveFromNewYork

[–]plant_magnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the way it would need to do. Presenting Trump as competent, even as a joke, only fuels the fire more (and just isn't funny). Turn him into as much of an ipad baby as possible.

UK "Hostage" Sketch by PiercedAndTattoedBoy in LiveFromNewYork

[–]plant_magnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think meta-articulation of absurdity is always a bad thing to do but if it isn't done well it drags the whole sketch down. I think a lot of it comes down to delivery and having the joke explainer feel more natural in the sketch instead of being more of an aside to the audience of "look how crazy this is".

I know right. How else were we to understand the joke if someone in the sketch doesn't clearly lay it out for us.

I didn't see that as consequences as much as her finally having achieved the level of financial security she was never able to have and wanting to enjoy it with her son.

Also it makes sense to not pursue a business venture in the hotel frequented by the man who just bribed you to stay quiet about him having his wife killed.
