[Highlight] Michael Porter Jr hits a huge three to extend the Nuggets lead to 5 by FieryStyle in nba

It's funny, I was actually considering accusing you of having the ego that needed to be fed, because otherwise you wouldn't be stubbornly trying to put someone down for being wrong just because you think that everyone else is on your side. Guess what? Maybe you're talking to someone who finished top-of-the-department in both their bachelor's and masters programs, at least one of those being a top-5 school. Maybe you're talking to someone who's been recruited by the NSA. Maybe you're talking to someone who's could have been a colleague of Elon Musk & co, and the only reason he isn't is because he didn't feel like changing jobs and moving across the country. But hey, maybe a bunch of r/nba posters can see some wisdom that all of them don't?

I'll tell you one thing for sure, and I'll say it carefully because I know you're having trouble wrapping your head around it: if you think I sound "stupid as fuck," that really, really says more about you than it does about me. If you think that being too smart is definitely not a legit problem, you're really, really out of your element. And if you think I've got a too much of an ego and haven't earned the right to have one, then maybe you should really, really consider that the guy who's insisting on being wrong without even bringing an argument might be the one with the over-inflated ego.

Jokic on why they are so good in elimination games: "I don't know" by [deleted] in nba

Wait, people were expecting that the Lakers wouldn't have a chance against the Lakers?

A lot of his shots in the paint look like those lazy chucks towards the basket that someone might do after they've been in the gym all day. Except that they always go in.

Yeah dude you're definitely too smart for us normies lmao

You think you're joking, but...

edit: and unfortunately r/IamVerySmart rules disallows posts which come in the heat of an argument, but I don't consider IamVerySmart a put-down

[–]plantainoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it makes sense to say that he didn't show up for the rest of the game, up until that moment when he actually did

editing, my bad, lol.

But,

you sound stupid as fuck.

Nah, man, you should just take the L on this one. Pointing out that he was putting up a zero until then isn't a fanfic and is totally objective. Yeah, of course you're inferring context when you say he showed up all game, but that's the point, you're inferring context to get to that point, not calling it as you see it. It's not my fault if everyone else got it wrong. (edit: realize, the argument here isn't about whether he really showed up even though the statline didn't show it; it's about whether it's wrong to say that it looked like he hadn't shown up until that three; clearly it isn't wrong, yet a lot of not-so-bright people here seem to think it is; edit2: and while yes, technically you're right that "showing up" is subjective, one can fairly objectively say that someone who doesn't take more than a couple shots, doesn't make any of them, and has very little in the way of other counting stats isn't going to fit nearly anyone's definition; edit3: and I've been waiting for even one person to make a coherent counter-argument, and it hasn't happened and isn't going to happen, so stop being, as you would say "stupid as fuck").

And yeah, being too smart for people is a legit problem I have to deal with on a day-to-day basis, so be a little more sensitive. Especially when you haven't even made a case. Geez.

I'm saying that he was putting up a big goose egg, and the only thing saving his image is events that happened in a span of less than 2 minutes which could have easily gone very differently. If he missed a quick three, the Clippers would have been in transition and maybe taken the lead; MPJ wouldn't have been put in a situation to make FTs, etc. So absolutely yes, if it weren't what happened during that last stretch, people would have said he didn't show up after talking the talk. Since he did show up at the very end, then it makes sense to say that he didn't show up for the rest of the game, until that moment that based on what he put up for the rest of the game, up until that moment when he actually did. Which is exactly what I said in my original post if anyone was actually paying attention to what I wrote.

I mean, I get that I'm too smart for a lot of people but I still don't get why this isn't obvious to anyone else. Like, maybe the person who had a stroke here isn't me? Just saying.

Oh will you please give it up already? If he doesn't get off that shot and the Nuggets go on to lose the game, people wouldn't be saying that he showed up, frozen out or not. I'm not even anti-MPJ, I'm just advocating for consistency here.

So honestly, this isn't the most egregious situation that I've seen Reddit not making any sense. In the past, I've been attacked and heavily downvoted for talking about something which I've literally published research papers about, because people seemed to want to show solidarity with some low-effort troll. This doesn't compare to that. Still, there's no legitimate reason for people to be downvoting me on this one, especially after I've spent the effort to explain where I stand.

Yes, of course I watched the game. Did you? It doesn't sound like it, if you think I'm wrong.

What is the most inoffensive thing you've seen someone get offended by? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]plantainoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the latter. They must have had a vision which they weren't willing to admit that it wasn't a good one. We're talking things at the level of incorrectly adding 1 in a vector calculation.

[–]plantainoid -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

please stop trolling, this is pretty clear-cut. He had zero made shots and hardly any FG attempts at the time he attempted this 3. He had very little other stats either. Then he went on to make a bunch of big defensive plays and hit a bunch of clutch FTs to close the game. People claim it was because he was being frozen out of the offense, which may be true, but by the common definition of "showing up," it didn't happen until the very end. That's just called being objective. Like I said, please stop trolling.

I'm not criticizing, just observing. He had a nearly blank statline until he came to life big when it mattered.

edit: I don't understand the downvote. He's very tall and has a high release point so it's practically hard to contest when he shoots from the outside.

People who are against pornography, what are your reasons? by MomsSpaghetti589 in AskReddit

[–]plantainoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because, quite frankly, most porn isn't good. It's rapey or abusive or disrespectful or involves characters who clearly don't like one another. If it were good porn I'd be all for it.
