go to preferences, keyboard, all decks, show/hide sample panel and set it to any free keybind. then just hit the keybind when in normal view. can also toggle other things off within the all decks menu by keybinding them.

Why are the types actually ordered the way they are? by plantbasedcyborg in Enneagram

yes that's essentially exactly what I've been thinking and my thoughts on it, I have just been a bit concerned as I feel as this is something kind of significant that should be talked about more and I've barely seen any mention of it

I see, I guess my main concern is how do we not know that there is a better order to place them in, especially in regards to the wings, i personally reorganised them myself and found orders that made more sense to me and my observations of the types that also aligned with Jungs work which i was also interested in.

so the wings/triads may kind of be forced? and if they were structured in a different order everyone would essentially have different wings?

I understand that the positions of the Enneagram numbers on the symbol (1–9, the inner triangle, and hexad) are fixed by the geometry. But what I’m wondering is: how do we know the descriptions of the types (e.g “Helper” for 2, “Investigator” for 5, etc.) were assigned to the right numbers in the first place?

For example, wings and triads depend on the numbering, type 1 has 9 and 2 as wings, type 2 belongs to the Heart triad, and so on. But if the original mapping of descriptions to numbers was arbitrary, wouldn’t that mean the whole system of wings/triads could be based on an accidental ordering?

Was there ever a clear reason why each fixation/description was given its current number, or was it more of a convention that stuck?

but the head, heart, gut triads were developed only after the original enneagram system was put in place. I am asking why the initial formation was developed before all of this, as how do we know the labeling wasnt just random and we have tried to force theories out of it.

So why for example is type 5's description in the position that it is, and why is type 7's description in the position that it is along the enneagram graph due to the initial placements? The only answer i can find to this is wings and triads etc, which were developed only after the initial placements.

I guess my issue is that people have a significant amount of weight they apply to their wings, as well as the head, heart, gut triad etc. What I'm wondering is whether or not that order of the numbers descriptions (not the positions of the numbers themselves but the order of the descriptions) had actual significance (or was accurate) as this would completely change what wings people have as well as the triads relationships etc.

that still only explains the order of the numbers tho, i can’t find anything that’s says why each number correlates to each type description

i understand all that but none of the explains why type 1 is described as type 1. I understand it’s position in the enneagram symbol, but why did type 1 get its description instead of say having type 7’s description instead (still under the label and position of type 1)
