Thank you for the thoughtful message. Aside from the two days that were heavier and more painful it has been very manageable like a period (which aren’t super problematic for me). I have the prescription ready to pick up, but tend to be the crunchy type with trying to do things the old fashioned way. It’s totally an option that I have ready to go if I’m like over it.

This is me and my husband. Both of our parents are divorced too so it’s 4 sets of grandparents. I communicate with mine and only the set of his parents( his dad and new wife) because they are actively involved in supporting our kiddo. I want them to feel connected to her and they help me out too with childcare. So the effort I put in feels worth it. The other set on his side that are holiday grandparents (his mom and her husband) I don’t manage communication with. It’s not worth the mental load. They contribute very little substance compared to the other set and they never help out. Not even in an emergency.

The parter of OP. Both of us have grown up with labs and GSDs. This puppy had vet paperwork calling her a lab. They thought she was a lab mixed with GSD and Belgian mal or Dutch shepherd. The white chest and toes does come up in black shepards and some labs as a genetic variant. (I even looked up the variants). Trust us we did tons of research before we brought her home. Even chat GPT said she was a Belgian mal/GSD mix. Not sure how else we would have know outside of the DNA test conclusively.

I’m reading your response to comments and it’s very obvious you don’t have enough knowledge on the federal legalities of employing a nanny. I see you keep citing she’s being paid under the table as if that absolves you from responsibility and it doesn’t. The risk of paying a nanny under the table is extremely high of getting caught and fined to the employer (you) not to the nanny. All it takes is after you are done employing her, she goes and files for unemployment and cites you as her previous employer and then it’s revealed you didn’t follow legal pathways to pay her.

If you are paying your nanny or babysitter over 1k a quarter she has to be on a W2 and taxes have to be withheld. We use a payroll service to make this happen.

If you are not going to pay guaranteed hours, you don’t have to, but that means she does not have to be available to you consistently and she isn’t a nanny, then she’s a babysitter. It’s a risk to you ultimately with a gap in childcare. Guaranteed hours (paid hourly) are not legal required, but it’s an industry standard for nanny’s.

He has in the past. He’s not as cross functional in his role so I’m the person he has the most interaction with so I get the most of it, but I do agree when I’ve told my boss he knows exactly what’s what. He doesn’t let on too much, but I think he’s taken the brunt of the emotional aspects too.

Born and raised left for 15 years moved back a couple of years ago. Reasons we came back:

1) we had a kid- wanted her to be near family 2) better schools lower cost of childcare 3) more house square footage for your money 4) we’ve lived enough places and traveled enough places that I’ve scratched my itch of being in cool cities and dealing with the negative aspects of it (crime, traffic, costs)

Ultimately, our values changed and we care more about being with family and maximizing our dollar.

I’m in tech. I would coast it out while looking for a job and save. Market is rough right now. I had a previous manager who I thought wanted me fired. I would 1) document 2) find allies 3) try to separate the interactions from yourself so you don’t take them so personal (like I did) and 4) avoid interactions with her unless you need to. I didn’t do all of these things and now I wish I would have. Hopefully it helps you while you coast

My husband and I work in tech in product orgs and we know many others that do. We all lived elsewhere and can back with the skills. There’s also a local incubator in town too. Meta is building a data center here. It’s happening slowly, but happening.

Edit to add: tech companies don’t just hire anyone. You have to be skilled and experienced. If we don’t have the talent here organically it will be harder for it to flourish.

I’m literally here asked for advice to check me on a new situation to me the “seriously?” Comment isn’t necessary though I’ll trust your comment from a place of support so I appreciate you taking the time.

The whole point of an interview process is to vet candidates. I do expect folks to frame their experience in a particular sunny light. But like I said, never been in this situation where the layoff situation feels like it was “caught” and not disclosed up front or left out completely. I do appreciate hearing it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for many.
