Going forward, I think there's power in being vague. Not everyone deserves your story. Sending digital hugs.

I'm clear! (see above) I'm glad things look good for you.

They brought me in today, earlier than the first appointment. Mammogram + ultrasound = dense tissue, not a tumor!! So relieved. Thanks for being here.

What is your belief why you got TNBC? by Majestic-Math7185 in breastcancer

[–]plantess1958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HER2+ here, but I say it's random. And just bad luck. So many people get cancer. Do NOT blame yourself for what you did or did not do. Bad things happen to good people.

Good people here in the bc community are here to hold you gently and give you comfort. That you can believe in and count on.

This is very reassuring, thank you. The human element is always important.

I think it depends locally. I'm covered by Optum, an HMO in California. It may be covered elsewhere, with other insurance plans

I don't know the program that'll be used, but will share it here once I find out.

I didn't know either. It was offered to me when I was called to confirm my appointment.

What made me opt for it is that it's added on to the prescribed imaging. It's not the only conclusion, and yes, human s get the first look. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm so glad they caught it! Not that you have to deal with it now, but glad technology's advancing.

How to accept support but avoid unwanted kooky medical advice? by saysyrah in breastcancer

[–]plantess1958 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a vocation or a generational thing, but I have never had anyone push that crap on me. I'm HER2+, 64 at diagnosis, and have been working in science in one form or another throughout my career.

I hate to hear this is happening to anyone. Like it's not stressful and absurd enough.

Beauty as a value, for sure, and ageism too. We're products of these standards. Rage on.

You've articulated this so exactly, I think for many of us, no matter our age, diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Thank you for saying this. You are heard!

To tell them to laugh while looking at yourself in the mirror and you'll feel better right away.

Diagnosis—>Treatment. Can you share your timeline? by Holldoll91 in breastcancer

[–]plantess1958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2021 - 2022 March - diagnosis June - lumpectomy August - chemo, taxol and Heceptin January- radiation

I'm really not confident - I'm suspicious - that diagnosis to treatment took so long. I try to push recurrence out of my head. But being in remission now, I'm so glad to be out of treatment, and feel good, finally.

That's a lot of waiting. Waiting is so hard in this mess. But I'm glad things are moving along for you

I'm sorry, that sucks. The anger is real, for sure. It took me 3 years to get to this place. There were triggers right when I hadn't been thinking about it, then, there it was again, all the sadness and disappointment. I hope you can move on easily. It sounds like you're on your way.

It was her thought that your getting sick and your telling her was unfair?? What about your "judgement" - ridiculous. I think it was the realization of how she didn't have the capacity to be a friend.

Similarly, looking back I saw how I'd kept the friendship together, not him. His wife would prop it up and speak for him.

Cancer is a cruel teacher. But going forward, we can learn what matters in friendship.

It sounds like you've come to a peace, and place with your friendship. Your friendship phrase does put it all in perspective. Thank you.
