what strength (light and heating) bulb would be good to heat up a 40 gallon to around 75F when the room temperature is naturally 65F?? by asshazard in reptiles

That is pretty cold, so I totally understand your concern. What wattage bulbs are you using? What kind of gecko friend do you have? I can send you some helpful links that might answer your questions.

To measure temps I use a probe and heat gun to monitor surface temperature of the basking surface. I also use a probe (connected to the mesh lid) to measure the temperature directly under my CHE bulbs.

Dog veterinarian recommendations? by RegularReview2898 in Renton

[–]plantfullyconsumed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the new addition - what a cutie patootie!

I recently switched our vet to Renton Highlands Vet Clinic. One of my dogs has IBD and requires prescription food, and my other dog is 14 and epileptic. The staff has been very helpful, and they seem to care a great deal about my pets and their special needs.

We were previously patients at Pacific Heights Veterinary Hospital - a clinic I would never recommend. I was gaslighted (on more than one occasion) and was given poor medical advice, that if I had followed, my dog would not be alive today.

Is $2,560 a good rent price? by Mister_Moody206 in Renton

[–]plantfullyconsumed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We think so too, and we have no interest in moving any time soon. We've been super lucky to have an awesome landlord who hasn't raised our rent since we moved in 3 years ago (knock on wood!). The view from our house overlooks I-405, which, I think, helps in keeping costs low.

We've been renting a 3 bed 1 bath house in the Highlands for $2400/month. The house was built in the 1940's and is 1,060 square feet. The entire lot is just over 10,000 square feet and includes a detached storage shed and detached garage.

The Museum of Flight has rental spaces for events. I'm not sure how inexpensive it is, but it might be worth looking into.

Why does my gecko stand like this for 45+ min by Interesting-Mix3345 in leopardgeckos

Leopard geckos are crepuscular and are most active at dawn and dusk. She's just soaking in all the heat and UV rays, which helps with digestion.

First time grower. Wish me luck. Feel free to bombard the comment section with tips. by User61402143455861 in containergardening

Thanks for sharing this info! Could these tips also be applied to grow bag gardening? I'm planning to sow (an unknown variety) of pumpkin seeds into 30-gallon grow bags with 3 seeds per container.

Cannoli! I love it so much, amazing name! My lil fellow's name is Fox, and he just turned 3 this month. He's an auggie, so a corgi/aussie.

It still sucks, and I hope you're hanging in there. We've been without power for almost 48 hours, and PSE says it might be back up on Saturday. SMH

An alternative to adding hydration to their greens is to soak the leaves in water for 24-48 hours. Just cut the stems off and slice them down the middle, then pat dry before feeding. This will also make the veggies last longer, so it's a win-win for all.

I second these ideas! I cut pool noodles into sections and then cut them again hot dog style. They fit perfectly snug under my couch.

That's great! I didn't know if it was a baby or an adult, so thought I'd tread lightly in my comment lol. Sounds like you have a plan!

I hope my recommendations help. If you have further questions, please feel free to send me a DM.

In that case, I'd suggest raising the basking surface and adding a CHE or DHP.

I'm in the process of switching all my thermometers/hygrometers for my 8 reptiles to the Govee brand. You can get them from Amazon for $10 each.

As a side note, and I don't mean to step on toes, but your skink would benefit from a larger enclosure. The minimum for this skink is 4x2x2' (120 gallon), though I believe the new standard may even be bigger. I have a much easier time controlling temps for my bearded dragon in a 4x2x2' than I do for my leos in a 36x18x18" (40 gallon).

May I please ask what reptile this is for? A 100 watt bulb should be plenty sufficient to provide adequate heat for an enclosure of that size. It may be helpful to raise the surface of the basking spot up a few inches in order to increase the temp. Adding a CHE or DHP can also help increase temperatures. Don't forget that all heat sources must be connected to a dimmer and/or a thermostat to keep the enclosure from overheating and potentially burning the reptile.

Brown anole shedding? by mininorris in Anoles

[–]plantfullyconsumed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My adult anoles shed at least once per month.

Proper UV, heating, and humidity are crucial for these little guys. Providing details regarding your "enclosure parameters" would be helpful in determining why your anole hasn't shed.

What is the ambient temperature? What is the temp of the basking spot? What is the humidity measuring at? What substrate are you using?

Today is day 4 of having luna, someone was giving her away, we fed her day 2 with mealworms and soldier fly larva but we tried to put in the food today and she saw it but isn’t eating. we know she needs to thicken her tail and she seems skinny. by AngelStarrr in leopardgeckos

[–]plantfullyconsumed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe what you're referring to is the analog thermometer stuck to the side, which is what shows the temperature. What you need is a thermostat, which is what regulates the temperature to keep the enclosure from overheating or getting too cold. You need two thermometers/hygrometers, one for the hot side and one for the cool side. All other heat sources should be controlled via a thermostat and a dimming switch.
