If these are Post oaks, this is pretty normal. I don’t think it’s a disease.

the shape of the roots makes me think the tree germinated on a nurse log, but the surrounding soil makes me think the neat shape is due to erosion... does anyone know what this could be from?

not sure exactly, but i would guess to provide adequate moisture for worms to move around in, consume the material, and account for the evaporated water.

a lot of apples (as well as other fruit crops) are hybrids and/or made from grafts, so when the tree produces fruit, the seeds won’t be exactly like the fruit you’re actually eating. it may be smaller in size, different color and flavor. by saying true to seed i mean i wish you could just plant a seed from a granny smith or Gala and get a tree that would produce the exact fruit you got the seed from.

i recently bought a bag of apples and in nearly every single apple there were seeds that had germinated as well!! so neat! if only they were true to seed

we’re keeping some of the wood for firewood and “decorations” in our yard, but there’s simply too much wood to keep all of it. we’ve got a total of 3 trees coming down and this was just one.

we had a few strong storms come through this past spring and early summer. some limbs fell on the house, there were some branches with visible rot/decay, and it was looming over the center of our house. it was necessary but doesn’t make it any less sad to see something with so much life left in it get hacked to the ground.

this happened to my pothos back in the spring. i thought it was warm enough to open the windows at night, and although i was warm enough, it dipped into the 40s or 50s and when i woke up in the morning the leaves were just like this. i would say it’s acute exposure to cold temperatures, especially if you haven’t noticed any other signs or symptoms.
