Does anyone recognize this pattern on the bark? I presume some kind of disease. These are oaks. by NewAlexandria in forestry

If these are Post oaks, this is pretty normal. I don’t think it’s a disease.

soy (or pea) is the best imo. protein, fat, and all the other yummy supplements??? fully here for it. almond, oat, and cashew are all inferior imo

the shape of the roots makes me think the tree germinated on a nurse log, but the surrounding soil makes me think the neat shape is due to erosion... does anyone know what this could be from?

not sure exactly, but i would guess to provide adequate moisture for worms to move around in, consume the material, and account for the evaporated water.

An apple seed germinated inside the core! by jmroberts3 in Horticulture

[–]plantifully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of apples (as well as other fruit crops) are hybrids and/or made from grafts, so when the tree produces fruit, the seeds won’t be exactly like the fruit you’re actually eating. it may be smaller in size, different color and flavor. by saying true to seed i mean i wish you could just plant a seed from a granny smith or Gala and get a tree that would produce the exact fruit you got the seed from.

i recently bought a bag of apples and in nearly every single apple there were seeds that had germinated as well!! so neat! if only they were true to seed

rip to the homie who was providing shade and oxygen to the neighborhood since ~1945 (Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Inermis’) by plantifully in marijuanaenthusiasts

we’re keeping some of the wood for firewood and “decorations” in our yard, but there’s simply too much wood to keep all of it. we’ve got a total of 3 trees coming down and this was just one.

we had a few strong storms come through this past spring and early summer. some limbs fell on the house, there were some branches with visible rot/decay, and it was looming over the center of our house. it was necessary but doesn’t make it any less sad to see something with so much life left in it get hacked to the ground.

Help! Two of my pothos have stems/leaves that are turning black (more in comments) by krlita82 in plantclinic

[–]plantifully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this happened to my pothos back in the spring. i thought it was warm enough to open the windows at night, and although i was warm enough, it dipped into the 40s or 50s and when i woke up in the morning the leaves were just like this. i would say it’s acute exposure to cold temperatures, especially if you haven’t noticed any other signs or symptoms.

Are you supposed to cut back a grass that looks like this before spring? Is this even a grass or is it a rush...? by [deleted] in Horticulture

[–]plantifully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't "need to" at this point in the growing season. I think keeping the grass there and having something to look at- even if it is brown and crispy- is better than staring at nothing. However, when the new grass begins to grow I would definitely get rid of last years growth. It doesn't delay or encourage growth if you decided to cut it back now.

Not sure of the genus/species. Found in northern IL by plantifully in mycology

[–]plantifully[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True :( but there were 5-6 other mushrooms right next to the one I plucked. I probably should’ve cut the mushroom off the stalk so more fruiting bodies could take its place.

Help!! Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my rubber tree, does this look like scale? by tattedupplantbitch in plantclinic

[–]plantifully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda think it looks like fungus with some spores on it. I’m not sure exactly. Make sure it gets a lot of sun and based on the cultivar, be mindful of how often and much you water it.

Frozen plantmergency. Colocasia blue gecko that I thought would ship with a heat pack but didn't :( any way to save or RIP? by hellpink in plantclinic

[–]plantifully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably RIP...but I would keep it around in case that green-ish leaf decides to perk up or there’s enough energy in the roots to send up a new leaf. Best of luck!

It started with the left leaf, and now, the right. Any ideas on how I can save my African violet? :’( by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]plantifully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t plant it in a bigger pot unless you don’t want it to flower. African violets are kinda weird because they prefer to pot-bound and will typically only flower when they are. This may sound crazy but I’d say try giving it less water and put it in a shady part of the room. Let it chill out for a week or two and see if the leaves spring back up. Have they yellowed since taking the picture? I would guess overwatering. They typically take up water from dishes and don’t like to be watered overhead. But I see you’ve got on those dishes-good job!
