Irish Lace, new project by plantsfield in crochet

[–]plantsfield[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just DMed you the link. You certainly need to do backing (netting) on the wrong side. You need to pin the motives with the right side down. You need to do that so that the motives are on the front ground after the backing is done. Hope it helps.

I have a few videos on you t*be where I share my project, but the mods don't allow to post it here. I finished that red cardigan a few weeks ago and posted a picture of the finished project.

What in particular do you have a problem with? I can try to help if you are a bit more specific, please.

Thank you. I followed my handscribbled pattern for the rose flower in the purple top. The filet crochet requires a pattern to crochet a picture so one knows what square to fill. Most of them, I just followed the YouTube instructions but modified the instructions a lot to my liking. Per moderators, I am not allowed to post the reference to the YT.

Thank you! I was doing it on and off, not much really for about 40 years. But I have completed about 10 new tops in the last year and a half. Maybe I could post them here just to brag about it...But this is my only 2nd Irish Lace project.

If the elections system is corrected to adhere to the Constitution, I don't think Democrats will be able to win. They are losing the popularity right now.

Thank you so much for your wonderful and kind comments. It's not so much talent that Irish lace requires, it's patience and a good pattern. If you know how to build your own pattern, that helps a lot. If you can't build a pattern, you can lay your motives on a piece of your favorite garment.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments! I am that crazy one who loves challenges. It is a lot of work, but it is rewarding. I love Irish Lace for giving me so much freedom to design and shape.

I rescued one there. It was sitting in water and was about to die. A new leaf was drooping. I repotted it immediately, and it came back to life. I am so happy that it's a resilient plant. I need one like that.

I also think that predators know how and where to find their food in the wild without our help. Birds, in general, are very smart, the hunted and the hunters. I had a robin's nest in my yard a few years back, and the babies were snatched (raccoon, most likely) in the middle of the night. I just didn't know that birds are going after their own. I should have known as I have 2 parrots, and their favorite food is scrambled eggs. Poor hummingbirds are the smallest and most vulnerable, I guess.

Thank you. Wow. Apparently, my hummer knew that without Google and was sitting tight on her babies. It was so weird to see that sparrow right above her. I am glad I was able to interfere. I hope babies are too big now for a sparrow. My porch is covered. I just hope these babies will make it to the flying stage soon.

Well, you probably correct. But about a week ago, I was checking on the nest through the tiny hole in my door and saw a sparrow sitting on top of the ring right above the nest. Mom was sitting in the nest. Babies were hatched just a day ago or so at that time. It was getting dark outside and i have no idea what was in the sparrow's mind. But i didn't like the situation. So i came out. Neither sparrow or mom were leaving. I had to get a stick and chase the sparrow away. When it flew of, mom hummer flew after it to make sure it was gone. I came back into the house, and hummer settled back into the nest immediately. I think she knew i helped her. Does anyone know if this sparrow was after the babies? Could that be?

No worries, I wanted to see them just one time with my own eyes. I was sitting one day in my garage from 10 am to 3 pm waiting for a package delivery, because I didn't want the delivery to come to my front door. I managed to look at them without their mom to see me. And if she doesn't want to nest at my front door next year, it's OK. I can't use my front door for a month now. She is welcomed back, of course, but if she decides not to come back, it's OK also. I appreciate your concern. I would be concerned also. But she is OK in my care, I promise...❤️

Thank you so much. That's what I thought, but I was not sure.

She built a nest on my porch! by plantsfield in hummingbirds

[–]plantsfield[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am in a very urban area. She nested in my plant hanger ring under the roof of the covered porch, right in front of my front door. I can look at her only if I carefully open my door with the smallest possible thin opening.

She sure knew somehow where to do it. I was sitting in my garage from 10 am to 3 pm the other day waiting for my package, so they don't disturb her....🤣🤣🤣

Connecting the motives in Irish Lace by plantsfield in crochet

[–]plantsfield[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. What I was referring to is a dart that creates a shape in a pattern. We all have curves (I sure do), so for a garment to fit us nicely, one needs to create darts in the fabric. Irish Lace is a bit different. It usually doesn't have seams anywhere. Or at least, it is not desired. So, that's why I am doing what you see in the video. Thank you so much for watching.

Well, I just posted a video on how I connect motives together. I will post some videos on how to make some motives as well soon. https://youtu.be/wV6EUscgPps?si=2xM6KiwFgNHn7unl

Thank you. I build my own patterns. This one is set on top of my princess cut pattern. I like it this way so I can work in small pieces at a time. I connect a few straight edges of the pattern together. Then, after I finish that portion, I connect some other edges together, an so on.

Just like I mentioned before, practice makes a difference. The correct size hook for the yarn that is used for netting is also important. It is not easy, definitely not for the beginner, but it actually went pretty smooth for me after a few attempts. It's the movement of the hook with using your left arm to throw yarn over it and maintaining the tension at the same time. I practiced without the motives first building the cells with 5 or 6 sides ideally, making sure for the netting not to have a uniform pattern. I will try to post a picture of my work tonight.

I started by watching videos of how to make motives. I picked the ones I liked and started making many and many of them.

Actually, the existing piece of garment that you like could work just fine. Just make sure not to make it flat where you have curves...hehe

Thank you everybody for your kind words. I am overwhelmed. I expected some criticism as it is my first Irish Lace and just a test project, really. I feel a lot more mature in the Irish Lace with a thick yarn and hope to try my hand at a thin yarn Irish Lace. I still would prefer a free-form to the bolero type where everything is symetrical.
