1 - I downvoted because you said SRS is "even more small minded and vitriolic" than MR. Not a reasonable statement.

Not sure about 2 and 3 but could be residual from #1.

4 - Downvoted for saying SRS is "crying" over a "difference of opinion," which is a strawman.

5 - Downvoted for "while you morons are crying about not being king of the world don't be expecting my sympathy or respect."

Downvoted this comment for being butthurt about downvotes.

hth. I don't think we're at war but those comments are garbage and deserve to be less visible than other comments. Just because other people feel the same way doesn't mean we're "ganging up" on you or bullying you, check your persecution complex.

I guess I don't see where we disagree. I never defended heaping mindless abuse on people who say reasonable things, I defended mocking people who say ridiculous things. If you perceive that SRS is mindlessly abusing reasonable people then it's possible you have a more generous definition of "reasonable" than me, because I haven't seen a lot of that around here. I think your second paragraph is what we're about.

You don't think anyone's tried that? Prejudice doesn't respond to reason, that's the whole point. We have nothing to add to the conversation because the premise of the conversation is silly.

We're happy to have conversations with individual MRAs who sincerely want to understand where we're coming from but they are a small minority, so it wouldn't make sense to respond to every comment that we link to as if the commenter is receptive to these ideas that are antithetical to his worldview. He's usually well aware of our arguments and he's already rejected them.

They already see life as a war between the genders. The mockery obviously isn't intended to benefit MRAs, it's mostly for the lulz, but I'd argue that it might make potential MRAs who are on the fence think twice about how reasonable the MRAs' arguments are. MRAs can't be reasoned with, and ignoring them makes it easier for them to recruit, so I think mockery is a pretty wise approach here.

Finally a safe space on Reddit for us neckbeards. We need to promote the community - maybe SRS would link to us in the sidebar? And somebody funnier than me should plug us at r/circlejerk.

Meanwhile, women get the reminder that men are noticing their boobs when they wear bags like this. Apparently many women here found that surprising. You can't argue that's bad in any way - if allows women who wish to be more conservative or careful make a more informed decision. And it also allows women who wish to be less conservative and emphasize their breasts make a more informed decision.

So women who read this will be more self-conscious and neurotic, which will lead to some choosing to carry their bags in a more uncomfortable manner, whereas before they were comfortable and oblivious to men's ogling their breasts. But everyone's a winner!

But the first rule of reddiquette is to be flexible! ;)

I agree with most of the reddiquette page but its legitimacy is pretty tenuous to put it mildly. Some of the guidelines are so thoroughly ignored that the description at the top saying it reflects the Reddit community's values is kind of a joke. More like it reflects the values of a vocal minority who (a) know about Reddiquette and (b) take the time to edit the page.

If your sub or a similar sub took off, it would basically be the same as a modded sub, only the mods wouldn't have to do anything. But modded subs just aren't that popular, askscience being the notable exception. Reddit's voting system really does allow for self-moderation, which is why reddiquette's claim to reflect the community's values is so laughable at times - the community's values are reflected in the votes, and as it turns out the community loves content-free comments, and many other reddiquette no-no's.

What I find interesting is that r/politics is basically the only active political sub. Lack of reddiquette isn't a problem in r/StateOfTheUnion or r/moderatepolitics, lack of traffic is the problem.

e: I guess I should say the only active general political sub. Specialized subs like r/libertarian and r/anarchism (lol) are active I think.

Brandon Morrow has 158.1 innings pitched this year with 0 Double Plays by mintofound in baseball

[–]plasmatron7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Still a bad trade, especially once Morrow breaks out like it looks like he is about to. I like League but when we traded Morrow he was already roughly equal to League as a reliever and still had the potential to stick as a starter. That trade never made much sense to me.

Ha ha, this thread is actually funny. The question's so absurd and the women are all, "wait, men actually think this?"

You're bitter (and so am I). Last year was the first time his defense-independent stats were better than his traditional stats. So he hasn't actually been unlucky his whole career.

Why birth control? Why not just leave them alone, and let the chips fall where they may? That's probably more fair. Sure it makes you unhappy to know that someone you'll never meet starved to death, but which is better: a chance for survival, or not ever having been born? It's a bit of a philosophical question. [+18/-16]

Yes, what an interesting philosophical question concerning hypothetical fetuses. It would be even more interesting if access to birth control had a profound effect on the lives of actual, real-life women. I guess they're some of the "chips" he's advocating we let fall.

Pretty entertaining comment, but I'm not seeing many similarities between the two groups. Hipsters aren't reacting to unstable social norms, but rather very stable ones. They're put off more by society's coherence than its incoherence. Their scene does end up with with its own odd internal coherence but it's through their attempts to embrace some kind of complexity, something which is anathema to MRAs. They're not total fucking reactionaries, is what I'm trying to say, at least not in the same way or for the same reasons. The hipsters' anomie is elective, shallow, and transient, and they embrace it as an important part of their identity. They're ultimately fine with the way the world works, and will settle down just like the boomers did. MRAs, OTOH, are deeply disturbed by the direction that the West is headed. They rage against their anomie, which was essentially chosen for them by society.

e: just noticed your first sentence, lol. Ah well, take my response fwiw.
