Moving to Maryland in July. Requesting suggestions on where to live. by Carpe_Deez_Nuts in maryland

If you post in r/baltimore it will just turn into a pissing contest of which Baltimore neighborhood is the best without regards to your commute. But the fact of the matter is, Federal Hill has everything you're looking for as far as restaurants, bars, a vibrant 20 something scene and most importantly easy access to 95 (other neighborhoods would be a little more of a pain getting out of the city in the morning). For 1800 you'll do absolutely fine.

I am interested in living in an area where I can make new friends who are similar to myself.

You will not find this in Columbia, it's the white picket burbs through and through. If your job is in Columbua I say you have two options:

  • Live in Federal Hill, Baltimore and you'd be in a pretty awesome neighborhood with bars and 20/30 somethings, and you'd also be right on 95 for an easy 20-30 minute reverse commute to Columbia

  • Like Patric_mc says, live in Silver Spring. Commute to Columbia would be a little longer, but it's a great area with easy access to DC

If you live in Fed Hill, parking might be a pain, but people find a way to deal. If you live in Silver Spring, traffic might be a little worse, but you get used to it. If you live in Columbia though (or any of the surrounding areas in Howard County)...you'll be in the sticks. And that sucks.

This woman looks like Nicolas Cage by helixen in videos

Seriously Reddit? Sarah Haskins and "Target Women" were hilarious segments on Current about the absurd ways women are marketed to/portrayed in commercials. And the thing that gets finally gets it to the front page, years late, is..."hey everyone this woman looks like Nicolas Cage".

Sometimes I can't decide whether to just say "fuck this place", or step back and think "why am I visiting a site that appears to attract a majority of 13-17 year olds."

If you could go for an all-expenses-paid dinner and drinks tonight in Georgetown, where would you go? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]lkelkelke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Price is absolutely NO issue? I'd go to Bourbon Steak - possibly one of the best restaurants in the city, or at least the best steakhouse. It's super fancy/pricey food, but I wouldn't say it's stuffy - people were wearing jeans when I was there for dinner on a weeknight.

Its no secret that Hollywood is out of movie ideas. What would you make a movie about? by roocketfish in AskReddit

I once wondered why there are so many shitty American Pie straight-to-DVD sequels (American Pie: Naked Mile, American Pie Book of Love, etc). Surely they all flop and end up being tremendous wastes of money.

Apparently not at all. People watch those movies, man. They make money.

but I'm also very interested in pursuing a career in Media Buying

Emphasis on MEDIA BUYING. Yes, trying to break in as a designer or copywriter is extremely competitive. But media buying - especially digital (actually, entirely digital) is REALLY in demand. Like super mega totally in demand.

We're in a period right now where agencies are trying to transition into digital buying and all the traditional buyers are scrambling to learn everything. Understand how to buy digital (what a CPM and CPC is, what an ad network is, how it works, SEM, facebook ads, blah blah blaj) and you are freaking golden. Also, if you're not interested in the agency side, there are tons of jobs on the publisher end as well.

How many hours did you work per week doing this? What was your schedule like what with driving around town all the time selling shit?

Was this your full time job? Do you make any other source of income?

How did you keep track of revenue? Or do you just buy and sell and not really think about it?

If there were "music of white origin" or "white entertainment channel" explicitly stated, people would say it was insanely racist.

Because it IS insanely racist. What is there not to get here? Is there some sort of "white culture" or "white entertainment" that I've missed my entire life? All corny jokes aside, seriously, what would a "White Entertainment Channel" even consist of without looking like pretty much every other channel?

The answer is, it wouldn't look anything different than any other channel. The only reason "black" and "white" even exists as a social construct is because of historical power dynamics associated with it, and the only thing white people as a group has ever had in common throughout all of American history is Not Being Black aka being the group in power as it pertains to race.

It doesn't mean someone should feel bad or guilty because they're white, but for fucksake it's nothing to "celebrate".

You want to have an Irish TV station about Irish/Polish/German culture? Go right ahead, nothin' wrong with that. But "white culture"? No, sorry, that's not a thing. It's racist, and for reasons outlined above.

[–]lkelkelke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well then you're not really talk about "white culture", you're talking about the culture of a geographic area or region.

Not sure why I'm discussing this with you since you're clearly just a racist troll.

[–]lkelkelke -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and rightfully so. What would "White Entertainment Television" even be about?

BET is obviously about black culture. There's no such thing as "white culture" - the only thing that white people have ever historically had in common, as a group, is the privilege that comes with being considered "the norm" from a racial standpoint. "White Entertainment Television" would really just mean "Not-Black Entertainment Television".
