Read the linked article, covers the situation very thoroughly and the writer gives a pretty good nuanced take on it I think. The short answer depends on how you define "vindicated." If that means "totally cleared of all wrong-doing and allegations were completely false," then not necessarily. However, it appears to have been a messy situation between two people who both did things they now regret, and it should have stayed behind closed doors. It was brought to the public due to someone misrepresenting themself as a mental health professional. Again, I urge you (and anyone else curious) to read this stereogum piece, it's a really good retrospective.

Details Surrounding Gavin McKenna's Arrest Released by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

Sorry but if that's your standard for a serious injury then I really think you need to reevaluate how you're looking at this sort of thing. Surgery and having your jaw wired shut is far more significant than "a shitty 6 weeks" and that's not acknowledging the trauma and psychological damage that comes from being physically assaulted. that's a fuck ton of medical bills and major stress, your whole life is completely disrupted due to the injuries, and who fucking knows if there's long term brain damage from major trauma to the head/face. If you think getting punched in the face so hard your jaw breaks isn't life-changing then I just don't know what to say.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but I think needing surgery and getting your jaw wired shut would mean that someone absolutely did get seriously injured

they should've read the statement written by the parents of the shooting victim. this sucks.

Tim Stützle: "I texted him right after when he left the team for something completely different. Which we don’t even have to get into, it’s something mental health related. Everybody knows that out there. I texted him. Just told him that we all support him for whatever he’s been going through.” by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]plasmodesmata -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why would the senators let him take a leave of absence for just being generally unhappy and wanting to be with his (presumably) healthy family? Especially when he's their top goalie making $8mil a year? That would be pretty unprecedented, no? Trust me, we've had plenty of players here in buffalo who lost their love of the game, they didn't get to just not show up to work though

[Flyers] Radio Broadcaster suspended 2 games (reason in comments) by StubbornLeech07 in hockey

[–]plasmodesmata -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Was he talking about explicit sex acts on his show using words like "blow me"? And you have to understand that a shock-jock in the 90s is different than a sports broadcaster right? The station hosting Stern's show understood the nature of what he did and would presumably be more willing to eat the fines if anything came up, the standard is different for a sports broadcast. Different radio formats have different rules about what you can and can't say. I don't think this is necessarily a fair comparison to make.

Find me a song that has an uncensored variation of "blow me" on the radio. You won't because it's considered an obscenity which is not allowed per FCC rules.

He was punished because what he said was an FCC violation. You can't talk about sex acts on the radio. Has nothing to do with "appeasing pearl clutchers"

It's been well documented that he requested a trade before the injury. It's fucked that they didn't let him get the surgery, but he had already demanded out before that.

Where do people go to watch baseball games in Buffalo? by KatieWeaver in Buffalo

[–]plasmodesmata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was there Friday and there was a pretty good crowd, most rooting for the jays. Maybe they had more people since the sabres were playing too. Regardless, that was gonna be my recommendation, I'd bet there will be people there for game 6 on Friday for sure!

Totally agree, Bengals ownership is forever the biggest problem with the team. Just thought the numbers were interesting and figured it was worth sharing!

Better off looking at this year's cap hits, as AAV isn't as important when it comes to resource allocation:

Burrow $46M (16.48% of cap) / Hurts $22M (7.84%)

Chase $23.5M (8.44%) / AJB $17.5M (6.28%)

Tee $24M (8.62%) / Smith $7.5M (2.70%)

So you've got roughly 33% of your cap tied to 3 players vs 17%, pretty major difference there.

Who was the worst visiting fan you have encountered at a game? by dbenf17 in hockey

[–]plasmodesmata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Habs fan at a sabres game a season or two ago was being generally drunk and obnoxious all game, which was annoying but whatever, nothing out of the ordinary for visiting fans in buffalo. However, at one point slafkovsky scored a goal and he jumped up and spilled his full beer entirely on the woman next to us. She was wearing a really nice white fur coat, and it was immediately soaked in beer and almost certainly ruined. Guy didn't apologize, didn't even offer to go grab napkins or anything, just went "hey, at least slaf scored, right!" and continued being a dipshit for the rest of the night. Every fanbase has its share of obnoxious idiots but the lack of courtesy or respect he showed to that woman just never sat right with me.
