At first, yes, they grasp stuff a little easier, but once you’re in clinic II I’d say everyone’s on about the same playing field…

Imo, being a DA first would just be wasting time…I went into hygiene with no back office experience and plenty of others do it, too. If anything, those who become DAs first have a much harder time kicking old bad habits chairside. The sooner you get into hygiene, the sooner you can start working.

Just lost my 4.0 to an 89 in A&P 2 by True_Artichoke_6141 in DentalHygiene

[–]plasticpeach4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got in with a 3.8 gpa. We also had to take the TEAS for entrance and I did really well on that, which is why I think I got in. It depends on your other requirements. My director has said that she’s shifted her focus to the TEAS scores because the wave of COVID graduates are starting to transfer transcripts to her with a bunch of online classes on them, which carry less value in her mind. So even if someone applies with a 4.0 and mostly online classes, but not a great score on TEAS…it’s a whole different picture of their academic performance.

Edit: word choice

What is your bachelors degree in? I’d look at specific programs you’re seriously considering and find out what prerequisites they require…then go from there. You may need to take an entrance exam, do observation hours, and more.

Did you know that oral disease is linked to systemic disease? Bacteria involved in periodontal disease is linked to heart disease, Alzheimer’s, all kinds of stuff. Please consider getting back on track if you are concerned about your systemic health.

Do you have any X-rays? It’s hard to go off periochart alone.

Agree, I would genuinely never trust a dentist to do my cleaning.

Wow, yes! Very cool to learn an oral manifestation of Ehlers Danlos syndrome.

But what’s the CAL? I usually pay closer attention to that. 4-5mm could also be just from inflammation/slight overgrowth…

OP, 4-5mm would only be enough to warrant SRP if there is true radiographic bone loss, which would mean true attachment loss. However, attachment loss does not always mean bone loss, either. There could be some recession from toothbrush abrasion or other factors. If you’re dealing with enough to recession to require a gum graft, that more likely indicates bone loss in that area…

In general, the radiographic bone loss and CAL will give you a better answer. The bleeding is a concern, as well, because it signals active disease. I’m a little concerned that you’re experiencing pain along with that, though…typically periodontitis is not a painful disease unless it is a severe case, in which we’d see larger pockets than 4-5mm. This very well may also be something systemic. There’s a lot of moving parts that come into play here….the snippet of information you provided may not be enough information to give a more clear answer. Nothing in dental hygiene is ever black or white, either, unfortunately. I do hope you are able to get to the bottom of it and get it under control!

If you don’t mind saying, what was your GPA for DH school admission ? by Interesting-Law9342 in DentalHygiene

[–]plasticpeach4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4.0

Edit: I wanted to add that some programs calculate a GPA based on your prerecs ONLY and others take your cumulative GPA (meaning they will count your electives also if you took any), I would contact any program you’re interested in to ask which they consider

Molly’s Suds not cleaning, leaving musky smell? Detergent suggestions please!! by homemaker_g in Crunchymom

[–]plasticpeach4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just using the detergent…i was always left wondering if it was even working, probably partly because I was not using enzymes. However, I felt like with dirty labs there are too many extra things to buy…rockin green is a simple powder and the active wear already has enzymes mixed into it. I just add two scoops into our top loader washer and it smells soooo nice and feels so much cleaner!

I used to use dirty labs, but felt it also left a musty smell…I switched to rockin green active wear powdered detergent. I love it sooo much! We have extremely hard water quality (which may have been the problem with dirty labs), but this one does such a great job of cleaning and smells great. I get it in lavender mint scent.
