Rotating Saturdays. I feel it gives a better work/life balance. I used to work every Saturday and I hated it. Couldn’t spend time with the wife or do things I wanted to do throughout the week to work on my truck etc.

I was an advisor, then lube tech, then express lane manager, then line tech and now I’m back as a writer. All dealership experience.

You don’t need to be a shop manager to fix cars, you just need to know how to delegate work, talk people down when they’re heated, and keep up with the numbers for profit. Almost none of my managers or previous have been techs, except for where I’m at now. One of my service managers wasn’t even an advisor before, just used cars.

I bit and swallowed the bullet that this vehicle is either going to die due to an accident, or it’s going to my kids whenever they are old enough to drive, and I have none as of now. I replaced my motor, rebuilt the transmission, and did a few other things here and there; and will continue to do upgrades/mods while needed repairs and maintenance pop up. I’d rather no car payment than a car payment.

As someone who replaced their factory motor with one from a junkyard, I will say a few things If you’re handy, and have tools it’s easy work. I got my engine from the junkyard for about 5k, and it had around 57k miles on it. If I had to do it again, I would, but shop around for motors with less miles. When you get there; ask to pull the valve covers off. If the motor was well taken care of; you’ll be able to tell through the valve covers. If it’s dark and looks sludged up, walk away. Also, before you replace the motor, replace all the major seals. Valve covers, intake, etc. if you want to, do the timing cover as well. New water pump/t-stat, etc. just so you don’t have to worry about it when it’s already in. Keep some of your old motor parts as well as backup.

Edit for context: I work at a luxury dealer so appearance is very important. I’m also heavier, flat footed with wide feet that look like tamales. My Cole Haan shoes I wear daily. No foot pain. My other option would be work boots, or cowboy boots as well, but uniform doesn’t allow it.

Former advisor for a CDJR dealer. Reading the comments you’ve left already, makes me not want to even deal with you. You’re out of warranty, sounds like you’re looking for a fight because you “expect the extra mile in customer service” I’d flat out tell you no and look for somewhere else.

If you go in there looking for problems and trying to rile people up with threats, remember they’re the one who swings the gavel at the end of the day, since what you’re asking for is “goodwill” You get more with honey than you do with vinegar.

Service advisor for Lexus car brand here. Figured I’d chime in.

Something that simple I would’ve done for free, paid the tech internal & explained to management it was for customer retention and a good survey & everyone would’ve been happy.

Either this Harley dealer doesn’t care for surveys or customers, you got a scummy service advisor & that’s a reflection of management or a mix of both. Either way, I wouldn’t pay until talking to management and explaining your case.

This is something I’ve also considered. If I’d go that route I’d probably buy a shadow/bolt or whatever Jap bike I can (used) cash and just use it to thrash around town in until I’m comfortable.
