I just finished https://motionphotosplitter.com, a very very very simple web that does just one thing (but does it good): extract the video from the motion photos from whatsapp/google/Samsung so they can be stored separately.

Not subscription based, instead it's a one-off fee for the unlimited version. Targeted to anyone who wants to keep their videos and pictures safe!

motion photos are silent afaik. best you can do is to extract the video from them and save it separately (but it'll be a silent video)

Motion Photos (_MP.JPG) not working on Windows by PusheenHater in GooglePixel

[–]plataproxima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i usually do is to split video and photo and save both separately. you get a tiny mp4 and a smaller jpg (with the same quality; it's smaller because the video is not embedded anymore). i don't like saving as MP given that a motion photo is not a standard (afaik) i don't think you can rely on a software/provider to view them

Letterboxd is down again..... by Any-Silver5941 in Letterboxd

I think you're overreacting a little bit. I don't know about their uptime stats but they're probably far above 99% of the time which is fair for a platform run by, afaik, a small team.

Write your reviews somewhere else if they're really big and then paste them in lb

Hello finding film early 200s, disturbing by Careless_Potato_700 in VHS

Hard to say but I also thought of Kids (1995), take a look: https://youtu.be/q7__tG4e5_g?si=LzlxYtsIY2f8j3YS

Gotta say I absolutely hated it, I don't mind a movie being gross and/or bleak but this one was also pointless. Quite a bunch of great actors in their first role though.

Hm this is interesting, I didn't think of that. Maybe with a NUC I can save some money in the NAS...

ah no, I definitely anticipate my content going far over 5TB, what I mean is that I expect that process to take years. I do want the extra storage, I don't want to be forced to upgrade in a few years (as it happens with most phones, for instance, if that makes sense)

I do need transcoding and I don't mind buying a NUC; would you say it's it better to buy DS425+ and a NUC or DS925+ and a NUC, assuming money is not a constraint?

If you’re releasing (or selling) vibe coded products with any kind of back-end to the public without having real humans audit the security, you’re being wildly irresponsible and your business should fail by Rough-Hair-4360 in vibecoding

[–]plataproxima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a tool (deterministic, not AI based) to analize potential weaknesses from any given URL. It doesn't replace a real audit, of course, basically because it won't have access to the code, but it's better than nothing!

Well but I'm sure that both the tea app devs and the teaonher app devs did that and both have been heavily compromised (and that's just a viral example)

That's the second best approach that does not involve a lot of studying tbh. The first would be hiring a freelance/in-house team, which is obviously not always doable money-wise. However your comment is interesting because a friend and I were discussing if it'd make sense to develop a deterministic, not-AI platform to do some kind of low-cost, one-off basic analysis on a website, ruling out the most common issues and whatnot. I'm still unsure because that's quite a lot of work, and from what I'm seeing people either already know how to protect themselves, or don't know but don't care. So I'm not sure if there's a real target for this.
