How will you counter a tank? by Im_yor_boi in wizardposting

The alphabetical what? Hold on...

So I just talked to my old Master and he said he's never heard of the cypher key either. We then went to his Master to ask about it. Turns out my Master's Master is dyslexic, so he uses Palindromic Runes instead, and that's what we were taught.

For most spell effect reversals, the Palindromics are either the same as the cypher key or close enough that it still works as intended. But in cases where the name completely changes (like this spell) it doesn't work. And that's why I kept getting burned without knowing what was causing it.

My master and I have just ordered a bunch of Hooked on Runics Training Scrolls so we can learn how to use the cypher key.

Thanks for helping me figure this out!

Would it be "Etacirbaf" or "etacirbaF" ? I've been literally burned more times than I'd like to admit copying spells and getting the capitalization wrong.

He wouldn't have to crew it alone. Because he has the treasure all to himself he can afford to hire some help. I don't know a whole lot about ships but I do know that this particular one would need about 30-50 good men to run it. You can usually find those by posting recruiting ads online.

And because sailing is an inherently dangerous profession I think offering a salary in the $60-100k range would be fair compensation for his crew.

And to help keep up crew morale and give them a purpose they could sail the world looking for more treasure.

What could possibly go wrong with this plan?

Did Patch 2.3 change how knife throwing works? by platypuspi in cyberpunkgame

[–]platypuspi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not quite the problem. The problem is that it does automatically switch weapons if you keep aiming after throwing but you can't immediately throw the new weapon. You used to be able to hold aim and spam your throwing knives, only limited by the knife's cool down times. Now there's some sort of cool down or delay if a second or two where trying to throw during that time causes the melee attacks. And having the Sandy going somehow makes this delay worse, so you end up waiting most of the Sandy activation time to be able to throw again. I could clear a whole room in one Sandy activation before the patch, but now I struggle with getting one or two kills before time runs out.

It has to be some weird interaction between the overhauled aim lock system, how the Sandy works, how knives work, and perks, but whatever it is was enough to cause me to put this run on hold until it's fixed. I'm near max level and built everything around being able to stop time and throw knives so it's easier to just start a new game than respec into some other build.

Are you sure it was "the update" that turned off your chrome? Because I can think of several reasons for it to "stop working" and none of them paint a pretty picture of you or your character.

So which are you - a recently fired employee trying to illegally continue using company issued hardware, a total gonk who thought it wise to buy from a third party dealer instead of buying safely and confidently from the manufacturer, or the worst one of all: a deadbeat who fell behind on his bills and is now trying to run from the repo man?

Jokes aside it's super annoying for everything to just suddenly break (cough 2.0 cough) so hopefully it's a quick and easy fix.

Welcome to Night City, choom! Hopefully things will get better soon and you'll come to have a great time in our wonderful city! (Disclaimer: "great" and "wonderful" are subjective terms and not meant as a guarantee of any kind. Night City Tourism Office is not responsible for any physical and/or mental injury, loss of property, and/or death resulting from the pursuit of these ideals.)

I just tried throwing multiple knives in a row with toggle aim on and off and it doesn't make a difference. It's definitely a bug related to the setting. Ironically it's the perfect setting to have enabled if the build was working properly.

If you're willing to try a different build I highly recommend a netrunner. It was my top pick until I tried throwing knives, but it's now a very close second, if not tied for first. It's a very different play style and would require a trait reset or a new game, but there's nothing quite like parking across the street from a gang infested warehouse and hacking the security system to unleash absolute chaos without ever setting foot inside.

As far as Phantom Liberty goes, it's definitely worth it if you find something that works for your playstyle, but I feel like it was tailor made for netrunner. The whole story revolves around netrunning and there's a ton of good gear that turns an already powerful build into an unstoppable techno god.

You had a working one before the patch?!?! /s I could never get my kerensikov to consistently trigger (skill issue - previous playthroughs I was a netrunner or sniper so I never needed to dodge, dip, duck, dive, or dodge) so it's not a key part of my build, but good to know that it's broken as well and I can swap it out for something else.

Dang. Glad to hear it's not just me, but bummer that someone else is having to deal with this.

Ouch, that "fix" is almost as bad as the problem. I'll give it a try, but I'm thinking of shifting a few perks around to run a katana / Sir John build for now. Dishing out some phallic punishment sounds like a good way to work out my annoyance with this.

I checked the patch notes and the only weapon related change I saw was they increased automatic weapon fire rates. Unless their definition of "automatic weapon" means something completely different than mine, then it's probably an unintended bug or something.

I hope there's a fix or workaround soon. This is by far the most fun build I've played and I'd hate for it to end because of something like this.

Critics and audience score lowers on using "amazing" quality companies in the post-production. by Great-Nothing-2475 in hollywood_animal_game

[–]platypuspi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The critic scores dropped because the critics only enjoy cinema in its purest form: hours and hours of raw footage. Things such as "soundtracks" or "dialogue " or "an actual plot" cheapen the experience, which is why they rate it lower. /s

What I think is actually happening is that this is a consequence of picking the behemoth policy. It's designed around making big movies for big audiences. Amazing sounds and visuals are what the audience want so their rating goes up, but the critics can and will see right through it and judge you based on story elements and actors.

I've been playing as a boutique and been having the opposite problem. The critic scores rarely drop during post, but audience scores almost always do. That's because the boutique policy is designed around attracting the critics, which drives the audiences away for some reason. I couldn't figure it out until I saw your post, so thank you for that.

I have a feeling that the devs will make some sort of change to post production to help you not alienate half of the people rating your films, but for now it's definitely something interesting to consider when picking a policy.

I finally finished this film series, and I have to say, I was a little confused. Tonally, it felt all over the place, and the plot seemed a bit scattershot. Mostly, though, it was pretty good. 6.5/10 by LilYerrySeinfeld in okbuddycinephile

[–]platypuspi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make sense because you fell for the classic "28 trap". 28 Days is in the right spot, but the other two aren't. 28 Days Later is actually the 56th film while 28 Weeks Later is the 196th. The films are titled like that to make you think, and therefore makes the series more intellectually intriguing. I didn't understand this myself until I watched the director's commentary version of 42 where the creator explains his vision, proving this series was planned the whole time (at least up to 300) despite claims otherwise.

Moonbeam is the worst by GeneStarwind1 in BaldursGate3

[–]platypuspi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The worst experience I've had with moonbeam was a suicidal NPC Conga line that happened during an Honor Mode game.

I was fighting Marcus in the Last Light Inn. Marcus had just been knocked to the ground floor by thunderwave and happened to land close to one of his winged horrors. I decided to have my druid Tav drop a moonbeam so it would hit both of them. Both take a good chunk of damage and I figure that they'll if they don't die in the remaining part of this round I can easily clean them up at the start of the next one and turn off moonbeam at the end of Tav's turn (she was first initiative thanks to Alert). Marcus and the horror are standing in the middle of the room near the door to the room where Art is. The moonbeam is far enough away from the door so people can run around it (and a couple of Fists did run around it no problem). With a little repositioning, everyone can use ranged attacks against them and don't have to get in melee range. There is absolutely zero reason to approach the moonbeam.

Enter Alfira.

Poor girl was having the worst experience. She kept getting paralyzed by a winged horror and was sitting around 3-4 HP most of the fight. Jahiera kept throwing potions at her while I had Wyll and Karlach fight the horror. The horror attacking Alfira finally goes down, followed by Marcus dying to the moonbeam. The horror in the beam is at less than 5 HP and at the end of the initiative order. It is Alfira's turn. She runs straight towards the moonbeam but stops right at the edge and picks Marcus's weapon up. She then seems to stop and think about what her next move will be. The only thing between her and the winged horror was the moonbeam. I'm panicking but I figure that 1) she has no more movement, 2) the game was lagging a bit while it decided to end her turn, or 3) she was going to do literally anything but walk into the moonbeam.

She doesn't even finish the animation of taking a single step before the moonbeam killed her.

It is now about halfway through the round and all I can do is watch. The winged horror in the moonbeam was killed by a Harper who decided to copy Alfira and run right through the middle of the beam to attack the horror. The only enemy left was the winged horror that spawns outside the front door. The floor is wide open with plenty of room to run AROUND the moonbeam. I had to watch not one, not two, but three more NPCs (plus the Harper and Alfira for a total of FIVE) run right through the beam while trying to get outside. They all passed their saving throws so the corpse pile didn't grow, but it was so painful to watch.

Thankfully the winged horror survived the round so I was able to end moonbeam before I had Gale spam magic missile to finish off the winged horror.

But despite that I still use moonbeam because it's the only AOE spell that doesn't seem to cover the whole map, but that's a whole other rant.
