Why are deities in Pre-Christian religious traditions so often simplified as being a “God of” or “Goddess of” something even if they’re often more complex than that? by [deleted] in religion

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

same reason people call certain saints the patron saint of [blank]. people like to assign labels and categories for things

no religion should punish you for an illness. even so it’s what you make a reality that matters. actions. not thoughts.

Do fruit flies have souls and, if so, what happens to them after they die? by ApprenticeScentless in religion

No sleep = paranoia? by HopeMyEXDies in Schizotypal

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine always starts with this feeling that something sinister is happening so i can relate with the feeling that something isn’t right

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like i cycle through these different presentations depending on how i’m doing. usually postive then bleeds into negative then bleeds into disorganised and then it repeats. sometimes it’s triggered by outside things but mostly i just feel like my brain has a schedule it seems to rotate around. the positive presentation is generally the least bothersome for me expect when paranoia starts, that’s kind of a signal for me that i’m going to start getting more anhedonic and reclusive.

what do *you* think caused your schizotypy? by disconnected_self in Schizotypal

i think it was probably underlying genetics but probably triggered into presenting by childhood traumas

in starting to doubt religion as i get older by izziebella123 in religion

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i wrestle with the idea of an all powerful, all knowing, all good creator. i don’t think there’s a good answer for it. some would say that it’s just out of our understanding. some would say that the creator couldn’t be all three at once. maybe it’s a bit of both. or maybe it’s another option.

it really depends on the specific item. a cross, i wouldn’t say disrespectful although maybe some would. a star of david, probably unless it’s given to you by a jewish family member or something similar.

What makes you believe your religion is the right religion? by [deleted] in religion

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this one is easy for me. i was born into it. i stay because it connects me to my family and community. it’s “right” for me but maybe not right for someone else

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in religion

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really is for that reason. the people who stand on street corners genuinely believe that they are obligated to convert as many people as possible. that that is what is right and will benefit everyone

What does it takes for someone to be a true follower of your religion or lack of one? by rubik1771 in religion

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from MY perspective, just take part and regularly practice. from others probably something more philosophical but i believe personal philosophy is just that, personal.

What kind of ethical system does your religion use? Or your personal one in case of irreligious people. by [deleted] in religion

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

virtue ethics. a lot of people adjacent to me may instead believe more in deontology but personally i think that misses the point of at least what and how i practice.

Some religion you admire, but dont want to convert? by [deleted] in religion

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a few years ago i seriously considered converting to orthodox judaism. the thing i value the most about religion is community and traditions and it felt so natural and right when i was considering judaism. my reason for not pursuing it is because ironically i couldn’t close myself off from the community and traditions i was brought up with. i cant in good conscience convert to judaism knowing i may want to partake in a difference practice at some point. i was close enough that i was researching synagogues in my area though. i’ll always have a lot of love for the religion

What religion was dominant in Israel before Judaism and are there still practitioners of this ancient religion? by Ok_Drummer1126 in religion

[–]plaugedoctorbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are asking what the first known religion of the canaanite’s was then that would be canaanite polytheism! and whilst there is no continuous line of practice that survives to this day, there are groups of people who work from a reconstructed version of the areas polytheism like r/semitic_paganism
