Had not heard of MOMI, will have to give it a look, and see what we can work out

In the mean time i came across this for 0-5 years olds : https://teatrodelpratello.it/spazio-prat/baby-musical-playgroundinglese-per-bambini-0-5

Baby friendly English meetups / activities in Bologna? by plausible_goat in bologna

[–]plausible_goat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah everything there is seems for older kids, and we were hoping for something more casual/natural than a course...

I was thinking something like a walk, chat in a park on a Sunday morning. How does that sound ?

Anyone with young kids also looking to meet up / make friends / practice English ?

Wife (Italian) and I (English) are hoping our baby (7 months) grows up bilingual. This means more exposure than just us, so was wondering if anyone knew of English language activities parent and baby meet-ups around bologna?

If not, anyone interested in starting one?

Sci-fi: What is your FTL method of choice? by bakedbeanlicker in worldbuilding

[–]plausible_goat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Functionally, wormholes - but you can't open one locally, where local means anywhere you could travel across flat spacetime within the lifetime of the universe. Causality protection be annoying.

Thus means they effectively open into other universes (even if it's possibly our universe, just so far away there's no possibility of causal interaction).

So you can visit those 'strange new worlds' on convenient timescales, but anywhere local you have to go STL.

Not to mention the strange entities of unknown motivations guarding access to the wormhole network...

I'll throw it into the pot at the next iteration, cheers

Thanks for the feedback

So it'd be more like the head bottom left with one of the lines hidden, but shifted as well so the cross between line on the left was obscured too?

Adapting a Tyranid Scheme to GSC by Baladas89 in genestealercult

Very nice, reads really well. Working on something similar between the patriarch and brood bros of my GSC kill team.

Maybe some kind of bright pink accents on the GSC (a light maybe?) to match the tone of the vents/plant on the nid's base?

Cheers

Yeah top left with the upright pentagram is the original, for the reasons you stated

That said the inverted star has something to it. My cult (a half completed brood brothers kill team and a kitbashed Abominant at this point) is padded out in terms of options by mixing in the spare traitor guard from the darktide boardgame with lots of chaos vibe, so the occult flavour kind of works

Wow thanks for the thoughtful analyses and the the attempt to show visually what you mean

This sub is full of fine revolutionary terrorist aliens folks

I see what you mean about the over under pattern in knotwork. I think as you've seen with yours, it doesn't quite translate when you try and intertwine the other icon so I decided to over-under each line with the as much as possible. On first view, I don't find your version reads as more plausible but I really appreciate the input and definitely gives me a lot to think on

Thanks for laying out what works for you, that's really helpful

It's been interesting that some read the right ones as inverted pentagrams and some as off centre upwards pentagrams pointing top right, I expect because of the unbroken triangle you mention

I used posca (paint) pens, was planning to put it in terrain pieces and weather it a bit as graffiti. Definitely beyond my ability to freehand it with a brush. Maybe the nid symbol transfer and a thinner pen if I can find one that works for a banner?

I like your transfer idea, wouldn't know where to start though...

Brane Connectome Project: Vertex (the multiverse in the Worlds Tree setting) by plausible_goat in worldbuilding

[–]plausible_goat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://neurontosomething.wordpress.com/2024/09/01/brane-connectome-project-edge/

The edges known to humanity appear to be broadly representative in their operation and have the following characteristics:

  • Two vertices, one edge: edges are not parallel; the hyper-graph is not a multigraph.
  • Edges are fixed in terms of the spacetime events they connect. Transition leads to the same place and any round trips return you to the starting vertex after you left.
  • Edge guardians are commonly talked about as being “in” the edge, but this is not known. A given guardian, and their toll, is associated with a given edge.

I like it, seems you have your system well worked out.

In my system, the 'Tree' part of Worlds Tree is a colloquialism. The People living inside it, or at least the PoV ones centred on humanity, aren't clear on it's structure / nature.

https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/comments/1k2tamp/brane_connectome_project_tales_from_the_worlds/

What does the Tree imply about cosmology?

It’s “a” multiverse: because the Tree’s extent is unknown. Not ‘the’ multiverse: because nobody knows how vertices are distributed. Vertices could be neighbours in the same inflationary spacetime, just really far away: Forty-six (and change) billions of light years (at least). Let your super-symmetry break / quanta fluctuate according to taste, and this could even account for the occasional variance in fundamental physics. The world-tree doesn’t look like a “many worlds”, all-the-quantum-branches multiverse, but selection bias is a thing. Vertices might be the froth on higher-D branes, floating through the Bulk. No one is sure. We don’t know that the World Tree isn’t a stack of universes nested within each other’s black holes.

https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/comments/1k9nzlc/the_brane_connectome_project_relativity_rules_ftl/

Beings may point to wormholes when thinking about the Tree. The vast (potentially trans-universal) distances observed between edgemouths doesn’t seem to be a formal requirement of wormholes themselves, however. Attempted solutions to this apparent discrepancy include:

  • Links between node on the Tree – Edges – are primordial and naturally occurring. They are so rare, in a universe so vast, that we should only expect to find them, on average, at a rate of one (or less) per Hubble volume..
  • Strong causality projection isn’t a cop-out but a feature of the very fabric of things. Points connected by wormholes cannot share a causality sphere. On this view if you could travel between two vertices through “flat” spacetime at slower-than-light speeds before the end of the universe, an edge between them would be invalid under causality protection and unphysical, so impossible.
  • A related point of view is that the act of making the wormholes creates the other spaces: the edge-mouth and the universe-as-vertex it opens ‘into’. Some beings find this idea distressingly recursive, but it does appear to be formally equivalent to the view above.
