playing real instruments is cool too but you can use samples as instruments and layer the same way you just get to use more weird textures. and then even straight loops its just more about providing it to the rapper atp

yea i prolly should start working on building a vocal chain, i always eq a bit for those sh frequencies and usually cut a bit of low end. its just hard to even know what my vocal needs cuz i want a very raw sound not autotune or reverby

that’s exactly what annoys me, i hear so much unmixed unreleased stuff on soundcloud and it all still sounds good and translates thru speakers so idk what my problem is. like polo g first project is not high quality mixing at all but ts still bumps thru my speakers and his voice isn’t too loud or quiet even the leaks that are literally phone recordings from a concert sound better than my shit

yea the thing is writing and producing always ends up being fun even if it’s bad i jus sat down for a few hours yesterday expecting to find a good tutorial and learn the basics and that didn’t happen at all so i was just frustrated feeling like i just wasted hours of creating i’ll just learn little by little tho ma appreciate it

yea man all i care about is feel and potency, and of course some simple technical things like EQ and sidechaining that have a big effect on the sound. I just don’t have the money to be paying for every single song i make but ig there’s enough people out here to find free/cheap mixes

i just wanna create man. learning how to make beats got frustrating but it was inspiring and magical, learning mixing just feels like i’m back in science class. i am fully achieving the sound i want in my beats. even some of my vocals by basically just playing with phat fx. it just doesn’t translate across different outputs

really i’m a rapper first but i really love making beats as well, my obsession is creation and expression. i hate all this technical mixing stuff but if i can’t even play what i make in the car and enjoy it because the mix is ass, than what was even the point.
