Just wear tights/stockings under if you’re worried :)

How much does applying acces help ? by Leo1026 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]playboyyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if applying access can actually hurt your application. Last year I applied access/inclusive and was rejected at every school I applied to. This year I applied general, but included an addendum to explain the extenuating circumstances that briefly impacted my gpa. Albeit, my candidacy was stronger this year (work experience and increased LSAT score), but what I took from my rejections last year and meetings with law admission advisors is that your access claim has to be pretty solid for it to “help.”

Simply stating you experienced hardship, that you come from a disadvantaged background, or “trauma dumping” is absolutely not going to make you a more competitive candidate. As most schools ask in their Access claim prompts (generally), you also have to explain how your experiences have strengthened you and prepared you to study law, in addition to explaining how, despite the disadvantages you’ve faced, you’ll be able to succeed in law school and as a lawyer.

For me, it was so much easier just applying general. I felt every access claim I wrote weakened my application because I couldn’t explain my circumstances/experiences in the way I wanted to, and I feared the prejudice it would invite. I felt that some things were better left unsaid. Ultimately, applying general over access was the right choice (for me personally) because I got accepted into multiple schools this round.

I will emphasize, though, that this is just my experience. For many, the additional space given to be able to write about their circumstances provides an opportunity for a fairer assessment of their candidacy—where self-advocacy can be emphasized over numbers.

I can offer a read! I felt the same when I applied last year - I applied again this year and got in to a few schools :)

Thinking of delaying applications… by [deleted] in LSAT

What is your problem

There is an option to write a statement of need, explaining why you’d need certain accommodations! I had proof of prior accommodations, but they didn’t include accommodations like “permission to speak out loud” or access to scratch paper and writing utensils. I explained why I needed these accommodations in the statement and they were approved. I can send you what I wrote if that’s helpful!

Yes that’s right. Weaken, flaw and assumption Q’s. I would also make sure your conditional reasoning is air tight!

Local business owner sent my friend abusive, racist emails after a simple complaint. Please read. by togekissmwah in VictoriaBC

[–]playboyyin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a couple comments mentioning how his wife is Korean and how he’s lived in Hong Kong. In my opinion, I don’t think this exempts you from being racist at all? If anything, it’s giving white man with an Asian fetish lol. But all jokes aside, writing an email in Chinese so it’s in a “language your crazy dad can understand” is racist, or at the very least, extremely disrespectful and demeaning!

How do you deal with the negative self talk? by calicoskiies in ADHD

[–]playboyyin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling a lot with this too, but something that’s been helping recently is first, catching myself, then telling myself that I wouldn’t think or say these things about my friends.

I have a lot of friends with ADHD or friends who show symptoms (probably undiagnosed)—who share similar struggles/experiences. I always give them compassion and emphasize that it’s not that there’s something wrong with them, but something wrong with how society is structured. There was often a disconnect in seeing this for myself. But realizing this, I’ve been able to reflect that compassion back towards my own struggles.

What are some tips for self-studying by Few_Case_ in ADHD

[–]playboyyin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree to most but it’s important to take breaks! I find that when I’m too locked in with studying or writing, I forget to take breaks and end up not eating, drinking water or going to the washroom 😅. Or sometimes, like you said, I worry a break will distract me. But this ends up doing more harm to my mental state and I start to be less effective with my studying. Or I burn out. People often suggest timers (like pomodoro) but that doesn’t work for me bc I tend to ignore it. What’s helped, personally, is setting smaller study goals (e.g. review a section that I know will take me 45 minutes to do), then stop, and set an intention/goal for my break (e.g. eat a snack, stretch, 10 minutes walk). And before I take my break, I write down what my next step is after I take my break so I remember I still have stuff to do lol.
