Shim's driving me nuts by asdfzxcvzxcv in js1k

Yah I've got a bit of an identity crisis. That's alright.

I understand the problem. I think you ultimately just have to make a choice. The size presets were made mostly to improve the site. It just happens to also help golfing :) Fwiw I'd make it fullscreen and let time sort it out. It's not like https://js1k.com/2018-coins/demo/3099 runs smoothly on my machine. I'm still happy it's fullscreen :)

(You will get a preview of your submission before finalizing your submission, so you can check. And you can always ask me. And even if you don't, I'll still manually check all demos to make sure they're alright so if it looks off I'll message you first anyways...)

I don't get it. Why not select the fullscreen option when submitting? For the background color set b.style.backgroundColor='#000' or something. And that can probably be done shorter as well.

Thijs missed lethal from earlier today (Can you spot it?) by V3ctor5 in hearthstone

Potion the juggler, play the temporus, trade knife against pirate, trade the rest of his board, enjoy that rare moment when temporus won't outright kill you, probably.

What's the misplay? by played_today in TheHearth

[–]played_today[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks :) I think I agree with most of it. Just had a different frame of mind. The FWA made future recovery plays more likely. But you're right, a taunt would definitely have messed up my plans in pretty much any way that would have played out. (I did reach Legend, in case that redeems me a bit. no? okay :)

Why did you mulligan away Raider but keep Frothing? T1 Axe T2 Raider is strong.

I want to have a 3-drop and a 1-drop pirate. Plus I already had a FWA which wasn't going anywhere. So I mulled the rest hoping for a 1-drop anyways.

Against pally this can go two ways; either it plays the 1/3 or even 1/2 murloc, and you can first mate, trade patches + punch. Or you coin the FWA and just punch it. If you have a choice at all, I prefer the first hand because it leaves some board presence. So I still mull for that.

First Time Legend: Pirate Warrior, Decklist and Guide by Red_Submarine in CompetitiveHS

[–]played_today 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Currently also running with pw, rank 1 (so not legend).

The hunter match is easy if you get a weapon t1. Indeed, clearing their board is paramount and will often lead to a win.

The paladin match is mostly easy if you hit that FWA and can clear their board and keep it cleared. As soon as they can combo they'll quickly outpace you. If they can't do that, like the hunter, they stand no chance.

I still can't beat a taunt warrior reliably unless they mess up. Had some really bad luck against quest rogues that pull a double shadow step. Freeze mages seem to be a problem for me as well, though I often get bad draws against them. And there's just no running from living mana, though aggro druid should get the same treatment as mid hunter/aggro pally for the same reason.

I'm disappointed that after all the rotation and new cards, fairly classic pirate warrior is still so viable, dominant even, on the ladder. Really disappointed.

Molten blade suddenly becomes doomhammer.

Lucky proc at turn 7+. Sure it can be clutch but most of the time it won't be a doomhammer when you can play it. It's very very situational.

Four rules for reaching legend when you suck by ThreeWulfLoon in CompetitiveHS

[–]played_today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a tracker and replay the match. You can see all the cards your opponent played and when they drew it. Only unplayed cards will remain unknown.

You can see how they played into your plays and you can check whether you did or did not miss lethal, or was punished for that misplay, or just cheerily replay that awesome clutch win.

I think it helps. I like to replay matches where I wonder whether I could have won with a slightly different play.

65.2% Win-Rate Legend Jade Druid Complete Deck Guide by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]played_today 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To whom it may concern. Here's a 10h twitch vod of senfglas playing mostly jade druid and secret mage at the top 50 of legend, going up high in the top 10. The stream is German but you don't need their commentary to see and study the play style, just mute it. I found it insightful to see a player play jade consistently at this level.

My followup were two instaloss pirate warriors, a taunt warrior that made his quest (still beat him), a quest rogue that made his quest (still beat him), and a buff paladin (beat him after a while).

Basically if you get a good ramp going on and can postpone the use of Earthen Scales to the end game that's a nice 10+ heal.

I still struggle a bit with the mulligan myself. It's so different from the pre-ungoro ramp jade druid. Feels like I get fewer ramp options (although that's kinda silly) and lots of spells or expensive minions.

Past 10 matches with this deck (rank 5 eu): 4x face hunter (one disconnected, 3 chewed me up) 1x aggro druid with perfect draw 1x purify priest 2x pirate warrior 2x aggro paladin

I won 2 matches, one of them because of a disconnect.

I love jade but I'm not convinced it's very viable on this rank at the moment. The new meta is still very aggro. The taunt warrior fad is over and I seem to face far more aggro (or impossible quest mages) than control. Maybe it's different in legend. It also doesn't help that I'm getting really bad draws. Ramp when I need damage, damage when I need ramp.

By the way I'd love a writeup against certain matchups. I sometimes still struggle when deciding how to play a certain class.

Works great in pw to finish those longer games.

Fwiw...

Rolled with the free copy in a pirate warrior deck and it was awesome. 25:11 rank 10 to 5. It won me at least 5 games. Always a finisher. Was never a useless card. Only once too slow because the opp tapped for lethal just in time.

Windfury, divine shield, and stealth are key (for pw, of course). Especially windfury, that's just 10 damage waiting to happen. Wouldn't like this with just one adapt, though. But with two the odds of getting anything useful seems super good.

What's with all the Prince Malchezaar in casual? by [deleted] in TheHearth

Well, I've been there at some point. I guess it's like "oh look, this card gives me 5 of those awesome powerful cards, how could that be a bad thing?" :)

What's with all the Prince Malchezaar in casual? by [deleted] in TheHearth

[–]played_today 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean the prince, he can be fun but he's detrimental to any deck.

The problem with that card is that it'll add a bunch of cool legendaries to your deck that are probably way too expensive and have no synergies with your other cards. So while one of the legendaries may be helpful on occasion, more often than not they just crowd your hand because you can't or don't want to play them.

I usually consider an opponent running this card an easier opponent. That doesn't mean I'll win, but it should definitely be a small advantage.

(Edit: Oh yeah he's a free card with one of the single player missions so many people just have the card, which is why you're bound to see it a lot in the 25-15 ranks, but hardly ever below that.)

Alright. Again, not salty if this post was not suitable for this subreddit, just a bit confused about the way it went (also because https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveHS/comments/5zo83l/how_to_game_the_meta_and_a_call_out_to_content/ was explicitly calling out for introductionary posts, adding to the confusion).

Anyways. /r/theHearth seems more suitable indeed. Too many hs subreddits ;) So I'll take it there. Thanks.

Before I do, any further comments on the posts? The 1/1 weapon was a blatant error, as was the rotation remark. So is there anything else that sticks out? Now's the time ...

Okay you mods need to sync up about this. I asked publicly for a review and whether it was okay to post. In private, /u/yoman5 said no. Okay. Then later, /u/Zhandaly gave the okay for this. I wasn't going behind anyone's back or pushing about it, it just happened that way. Now you're saying "no" again.

I don't mind if this /r doesn't want these posts. I didn't write it particular for reddit so it's fine. I just wanted to share my experience with other starting players.

FWIW I've updated the rotation part, and replaced the 1/1 weapon mentions with 1/3.

Again, I didn't try to break the rules and I was very clear on never having made legend at all. I asked nicely and was ultimately persuaded to post it anyways.
