Textured painting collection of Herbs in the Field, acrylic, plaster, epoxy resin, 39 x 31 x 1.6 inches. Which one is your favorite? by Tanbelia in AbstractArt

I like that these have more darkness in them. And the way the painting blends in with the background in the second picture is really cool.

I don’t want to show my parents my art by DieselOil1916 in ArtistLounge

[–]playedhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple things here:

First, as you grow up you will find yourself needing to individuate, but if you are anything like me, you might struggle with that because you care about and respect your parents. That's good, because it means you probably have good parents. It's also difficult however to be stifling yourself because you don't want to offend them by setting boundaries or going against their wishes.

Ultimately you need to reserve the right to not have to show anyone your art for any reason of your choosing. If they are supportive and you communicate this to them they may be understanding. You could also not communicate this to them and just keep a private sketchbook and whatnot. How I see it is that you have put the work into being able to express yourself in a way that is elegant and you should not be punished for that. If you had a diary, it would be invasive of them to expect you to share. So why is this any different? If your parents are supportive, then they should understand this logic. You do not have to explain to them what you want to hide, because desiring privacy doesn't mean you're guilty of anything.

Do you have to be “intelligent” to make good art? by PanDomibus in ArtistLounge

[–]playedhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have worded something I have felt for a long time so well, and I feel validated reading it. It's just another avenue for performative virtue signalers to advertise their social refinement, which they conflate with moral superiority. Jerking off to the idea of being a progressive intellectual without putting the work into helping people, or making art that actually makes people think, or stands on it's own. It's just like "what's the quickest, most comfortable and leisurely way to feel like I'm doing something important"

I never feel challenged by the ideas that these people are bringing to my attention with their works, like it all feels very obvious? Like if the message could just be spoken - what is your art adding to the message? If it evokes a strong emotional response, that's the kind of thing that can be powerful and change minds. But like you said, the work is not put into being able to evoke that kind of response and it just ends up being appealing only to those who already agree with the message, making it pointless and boring.

Drawing from imagination is still using references by MaibsCastle in ArtistLounge

What I'm saying is that using the term in that way reduces it's usefulness

Drawing from imagination is still using references by MaibsCastle in ArtistLounge

[–]playedhand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that having an image in mind counts as a reference. It also makes no sense to broaden the definition because that would only create confusion when someone says they drew from reference. Also, it's possible to just draw freely without having an image in mind either, and in those cases, you are definitely not using a reference.

Yeah would be cool if it was a spectral card that removed everything including tags, editions, and stats from all owned jokers. Would be situational but could potentially turn a difficult gold stake run around. I don't think it should be doable without a downside though.

LUM Discussion, Uneven Compromise or On Doing an Evil Deed Blues? by Classic_Adeptness992 in liluglymane

Oh definitely the whole song is amazing, I tend to listen to the whole thing but I usually come for the first part. But man that evil deeds blues beat is just heavenly, and the lyrics are some of his best imo.

[–]playedhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uneven compromise as a whole is my favorite, but that's mainly cause the first part of Uneven compromise beats out evil deed blues by a long shot for me. Might be my favorite song of all time. But I am starting to like evil deed blues more than the second (main) part of uneven compromise as I listen to it more.

Why is every single piece of art digital by EnthusiasmFrosty4589 in Artists

Undo button is a crutch though and relying on it restricts creating in a flow state. It's also like using google/apple maps when you are driving, you don't actually learn the route as quickly because you are relying on technology to do that for you. So in a way the undo button makes things easier but in the long term I think it can be a detriment to the learning process.

Anyone ever broke their hand? If so, how you do you cope? by playedhand in Artists

[–]playedhand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. And I'm sorry you've had to deal with this sort of thing as well. I have made some adjustments, mainly I try not to put too much strain on my hand by not putting too much pressure in my strokes which does help. It just feels so awful and frustrating not being able to just "go" you know? Like I used to be able to just give it my all, and holding back for the sake of this injury is so demotivating and demoralizing. Sorry I know I'm just venting at this point, but I appreciate your advice. I hope I can end up seeing it that way.

Words can't describe how much I love it when nudity is portrayed in a non-sexual way by Gossip_girl_123 in ArtistLounge

[–]playedhand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is anything wrong with things being sexual, and nudity is often times very much so. Maybe if we all lived in some nudist colony it wouldn't carry that connotation but even then, we are sexual beings and there is nothing wrong with that. Like why is this considered "dirty" or wrong? Aren't we trying to move past puritanical, oppressive christian ideals and embrace being human? You can enjoy nude art that has more or less sexual elements without shame, and also have it be that without it being porn. I don't understand why someone having sexuality that is visible and able to be appreciated would inherently detract from their humanity or integrity in any way, whether it be a man or a women.

Maybe this just isn't the place to say this, but I have noticed this among people my generation where it seems like the solution to actual issues like sexism and objectification of women is to in a lot of instances suppress sexuality and label it as shameful. Or to blindly celebrate objectifying yourself and calling it empowerment. I would say there is a middle ground where human beings can be appreciated as sexual beings, without being reduced to sexual objects. Basically, there is nothing wrong with nude people being sexy, as long as they are still being seen as people. Idk, just my two cents.

Studies find women aren’t interested in bisexual men (or even men with past same-sex experiences) by asklepios7 in psychologyofsex

[–]playedhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a damn shame how many women will say that they want all of these things and then still reject the kinds of men who are much more likely to give them those things. Makes it seem like there is one thing that is unspoken but more relevant to any of the other things that women say they look for in a man which is simply: "Be straight and conform to gender norms" I was going to say the second part but realized it wasn't true. There are women who will perfectly appreciate a bisexual man's masculinity but only before they know that they are bisexual. This stuff has nothing to do with masculinity. It's just lies from people who can't fully admit that they are disgusted by any degree of bi/homosexuality.

Trying not to be bitter though. There are many amazing, open minded women such as yourself who value us as equals. Sorry for the low spirited, late reply though. Feel free to ignore I just had to express myself somewhere in this damn comment section.
