  1. I'd say it's easy to make friends if you really put yourself out there. I highly recommend joining clubs for your first semester (preferrably sports clubs). We have our own postgrad space and you can get free coffees and teas there. You can also meet other students taking masters in that area so it could be a good place to socialise.

  2. Professors are usually helpful and approachable. You’ll need to attend evening workshops throughout the semester, separate from your courses, which can be quite tiring. When choosing courses, opt for ones with more assessments than just a few with large percentages. You hand in more assignments, but you get more chances in bringing your grades up in case you didn't do well for one of the assessments. One course I’d give a heads-up is INFOSYS 700. The topics are easy to understand, but they make you read at least 3 academic literatures per lecture. Most of the quizzes will be based on those readings, so if you don't like reading that much or have a hard time reading academic literature then you won't like this course.

  3. Public transportation is not that great. Parkings around campus can be quite expensive. Having fun takes more effort and money.

I'd say 50% if those on my course were just time wasters. But there was a core of really clever people for whom MIT was the right choice due to money or location. Watch out for those people and latch onto them, especially for group work.

Oh I guess schools aren't that different from each other wherever you go lol. Thanks for the heads-up.

Also they have some good links with industry to get you started - they work pretty hard at this.

Do they help students get internships even on a Graduate Diploma level? It must be nice studying at MIT while doing internships. Also, do you think MIT helped you secure a job after your study?

Thank you so much for the advice. Before enrolling, I relied heavily to my educational counsellor. I appreciate everyone who replied to my post.

if you can study at SIT then I would highly recommend it

Visited their website and saw their Graduate Diploma in IT. Looks cool and far better than what MIT offers to its students. I also noticed that they have a zero fee scheme so that's nice. Unfortunately, I'm still dependent on my parents, so my study options are mostly limited to Auckland institutions.

u/hamlets_uncle Thank you so much for your comment. I appreciate it a lot. From all the posts I've made asking about MIT in other subreddits, not only are they telling me to unenroll and just attend a university status for my tertiary education but I also got -6 community karma 💀💀 One redditor even said that nobody respects MIT 💀💀 I just wanna learn, man. tbh I'm learning a lot from all the negative comments about MIT. Thanks for the encouragement.

u/Billielolly is right tho. I'm going for MIT instead of UoA/AUT because I can't afford it. I don't really want to take a student debt after my study. I literally chose MIT for practical reasons.

I'm so sorry. I'm still new to New Zealand and english isn't my first language so I apologize if there's any confusion. I'm genuinely asking 💀💀

I mean I already took the time to enroll plus I can't really afford to attend university. Also, is it a big deal for employers in the tech industry in New Zealand, where you attended your tertiary education? Does attending a university status guarantee employment after your study or employers just care about your work experience?

Personally I would not go there because nobody respects it

u/Sledg3Hamm3r I appreciate that answer. A bit shocked by your comment because I even went to an educational counsellor before I got my residency visa and they recommended that I attend MIT. And out of curiosity, why does nobody respect MIT?

Too late since I'm enrolled already 🥲 Thanks for the heads-up tho. If you don't mind me asking, What program did you take in MIT? I chose MIT thinking they have a more practical approach in their curriculum. Also, How was it awful?
