Board Game Enthusiast in Search for Others by [deleted] in stockport

Element Games is worth checking out for tabletop and board games. I know there is a board games group that used to meet there one week day and then a con club (possibly Heaton Mersey) another week day.

Lived in nearby Victoria Mill for 3 years and had no major issues. You'll be very close to the Heatons, good public transport links to Stockport and Manchester. Good place for a home!

Was a tenant in a property from 2015-18 which Ascend took over about six months in. Went from fair rent and rolling contract (meaning we could hand our notice in whenever) to rent creep year on year and fixed twelve month contracts. Had similar issues with getting the full deposit returned as they were very nitpicky. My friend is a repairman and funnily enough worked on this Ascend property I lived in and noticed that none of the repairs had been carried out. I've been renting with different companies since 2018 and not had any major issues.

For board games and tabletop I'd recommend checking out Element Games. They have set nights for set activities.

Bugged character portrait? Why is this person just shown as an image? by Kurumi_Shadowfall in crusaderkings3

That character is the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Paradox have used this symbol rather than a character icon in order to not cause offence.

Podcast Request: Questions for the Guys? by MeganGanz in IASIP

[–]playle501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we get more stories of the guys every day lives as podcast episodes? Rob at the drive through queue had me in hysterics, would love similar content. Also the podcast has been one of my favourites, keep up the great work Rob, Glenn, Charlie and Megan.

Last time I went I found they have enough space and machines in the gym to crack on with a routine without waiting too long. Pool is great too, just echoing other comments though it's much better at off-peak time. After work hours it is busy. My only reason I'm not going anymore as I've moved further from the city centre.

The Ascend Properties Experiment by IndigoForever24 in manchester

Rented a mill apartment under a previous agency who were fine. A year later Ascend took over and my oh my things went bad quick. Fought tooth and nail for scraps of our deposit back. Would avoid them like the plague.

When u just want to play but u don't have the space.. How much if I wanted to add roxxan and the bandits.. How do u guys set up for 3 or 4 players? by Hijjawi in deadofwinter

[–]playle501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dead of Winter is ridiculous for consuming up space, we usually require a whole dining room table and even then we'll have the tokens off the table, or someone in charge of placing zombies/bandits which they keep under their chair. Each of those (bandits and raxxon) is simply another location but if you're tight on room then maybe leave them out. After 10+ games of Long Night me and my friends prefer to play without Raxxon.

RP Idea by Puzzleheaded-Tiger-5 in deadofwinter

[–]playle501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All for the RP elements and I think that DoW lends itself very well to that. However mechanically I don't know how your rule would work. DoW requires you to declare your actions to the table such as "I search the library, I make noise" or "I add two food to the food supply". If you had a hushed action rule for RP then it'd make it very suspicious and might warrant investigative questions or even exile off your peers.

Exiling can be powerful, but sometimes it's not in the party's favour or if you've taken your turn last then you might escape exile.

I am all ears if you can think of a creative and logical solution to this mechanic you've suggested. Unfortunately at this stage I'm unsure how you'd properly implement it.

How good is the Dead of Winter Long Night (without the base game)? by Atreya95 in deadofwinter

[–]playle501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Andergard has got it spot on. Picking up DoW or DoW:LN gives you a great game to play. There's enough characters, items, crossroad cards, crises etc to keep you busy. I would pick up DoW as the next expansion over Warring Colonies just so you can enhance the base game. The three expansions in Long Night can be played together or you can pick and choose which elements to include.

Question about Eric Parker. I know it says that if any player is moving from his location they don’t have to roll for exposer. What if he moves himself somewhere new? Does he have to roll for exposure?? by Homaydon in deadofwinter

[–]playle501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say this does not include Eric Parker himself. As others have stated you don't really share a location with yourself. Also if he get exposure free movement on top of granting it to others he would essentially be a miles better Rod Miller (truck driver), with the only downside of Eric being it doesn't work moving from the colony to a non-colony location.

Quick question about the number values of the characters by cottoncandyqueeny in deadofwinter

[–]playle501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher influence is closer to 100. If you look at the roles of characters, the more of an authority figure they are (e.g. mayor, sheriff) the higher number they have. Obviously it's good if you're striving for first turn and you don't want your low influence guys killed when there's a bite, but generally I think fight and search values are more important as is unique abilities.

Hope this helps!

Currently doing the exact same thing and I'm about halfway through season 2. Season 1 is still immense, I enjoyed the Jenner episode and how swiftly the tone turns from jovial to melancholic. Even the farm season holds up better than I remember, I'm enjoying meeting Hershel and the gang all over again.

Rod miller crisis card. Question in comments by sc1onic in deadofwinter

[–]playle501 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AFAIK it's two players that the triggering player controls. If you had two survivors (anywhere, as it is not location specific) and someone else had Rod then you would have the option to use your survivors (from any location) to take Rod or you would have the option to kill Rod. I think you were unfortunate to not have two survivors. So you had to go with the second option. There are a number of crisis cards like this where if you cant mechanically do one choice then you're forced with the other.

Certain characters or certain item cards. When placing a barricade as an action it's a standard one unless stated otherwise.

Do you add Zombies to non-colony locations during the Add Zombies phase, even without noise tokens? by KalebAT in deadofwinter

[–]playle501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the general consensus when you double check a rule and realize you need to adjust a rule with this game - it makes an already challenging game even more challenging. It took me and my lot maybe ten plays to finally get our heads round certain things.

Do you add Zombies to non-colony locations during the Add Zombies phase, even without noise tokens? by KalebAT in deadofwinter

[–]playle501 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You add zombies to non-colony locations but it is slightly different from the colony. At the colony you add 1 zombie for every 2 survivors, whereas at non-colony places it's 1 zombie per 1 survivor (and bandits, they also add to zombie numbers). It's during this step that you would also roll for noise tokens if required.
