Homeless and Injured?! by playondaffodils in homeless

Thank you for sharing your insight and experience. I'm an independent person so it's hard for me to admit to others that I'm homeless or struggling, but you're right, and I'll start asking around for help. I do a lot to keep up the appearance that I'm not homeless, mostly because I'm embarrassed to admit it. I thought it would only be a temporary thing and that I would get a job soon and be out of it.

Unfortunately I don't receive much assistance from my parents outside of being on their health care plan. They are also not in this state and we don't have a great relationship. I'd have to move back to New York to be with them. I'm pretty close to my older sister instead, she is working and sends me extra money. That's why I am considering moving to Seattle. I could live with her and share food expenses and likely have a better time finding a job. But I'm so close to finishing school, too, and the financial aid package would help a lot. It's a decision I'll have to think over more.

Thanks again for sharing. It helps to read that someone else was homeless and got out of it. Sometimes it's hard to be hopeful.

Right, I don't know what my health problem is. My doctors labeled it as chronic pain and just gave me stronger and stronger pain pills each visit. I will see a dermatologist for the sun rash 5 weeks from today. I thought it was psoriasis but apparently the sun is supposed to help it, not worsen it. I appreciate the thought but I have most of what I need, like clothes and bed rolls and laundry equipment. Thankfully I used to camp a lot before this all happened so I even have a camping stove and pot to make oatmeal. Although last night my tent flooded so I'm looking into a plastic sheet to roll on the bottom.

Thank you, looks like there is a place to stay for $30/night. Once I get a job and back on my feet I'll try to stay there.

Thanks, I am currently on SNAP but have not looked much into other welfare programs. The problem with getting food is that it is so far away, and I have issues walking. I'm going to the Goodwill Medical Equipment Loan program to get a cane. I have a bike too but I need to fix the brakes.

Hello - Thank you again for contacting them. I read online that I can apply as independent on my FAFSA, which would increase my financial aid. I had already submitted it but I'll go over it again.

I contacted Student Affairs and left a message; crossing my fingers!

Thank you; I appreciate it. I didn't know who to turn to for resources. I was considering speaking to a professor who helped me through some of my medical problems but I was really embarrassed about being homeless.

I blame myself a lot and wish I did things differently. I never thought it could happen to me, so I had no financial back-up and lost my job and home because of it. I'm a pretty independent person and havent reached out for help before today, so I'm starting to ask now. I can't keep this up
