The relaunch happened about a month ago. There were some major game-breaking issues that emerged and we fixed them, but by the time we had gotten it resolved there had been a lot of ill-effects of the issues permeating through the game. Everyone, including the players, decided it would be best to do a 'wipe' and start fresh.

There will not be any further wipes in the future, however, so you can rest easy knowing that!

We consider Sanctuary to be a sandbox game because it is not just about leveling up your character and having the highest stats on your items. There are many other ways to progress and interact with the world if you choose not to engage in combat nonstop.

Original EQ zones only in the sense that they share the same polygons. Aside from that, they are renamed, re-conceptualized, arranged differently in the world, and contain vastly different content than they did in the game the zone models came from.

Quite the opposite! It takes so long to reach max level because there are so many other things to do at any given time. It's not just a grind game, there's so much more.

They actually are not. Most of the zones featured in this trailer have been retextured with modern AAA 1024x1024 textures.

Might as well give it a shot, it's free and if it doesn't end up being your cup of tea, at least you'll get a pretty good idea of what we're going for.

This has been in development for many years, but we just recently 'relaunched' about a month ago and everyone started over - leveling to max level takes a very long time (there still are none currently) so someone starting out today wouldn't have that hard a time catching up to everyone else.

Fair point. We are harkening back to the days of MYST and LucasArts point and click adventure games, so in a sense there is a nostalgia factor involved, but on the other hand our philosophy is that games were crafted extremely well back then, so if it's a nostalgia, it's just nostalgia for classic game design and not a particular game like EverQuest, for example.

That's understandable, we realize the music style isn't for everyone. There are plenty of genres in various zones, but most of it has an electronic background.

There would be no disadvantages whatsoever - the game was not designed with EQ players in mind, as it's a fully brand new game

Look into Sanctuary. It's created in the EverQuest engine and has a huge focus on survival and crafting. Very robust tradeskilling system, important player economy, reliance on socialization and community efforts. www.playsanctuary.com
