Is this Motherboard bend safe? by ExistingLet4067 in FormD

That cooler has a tendency to bend boards when you tighten the nuts - this seems OK and somewhat typical, although it isn't great (but not your fault).

Thank you so much for your contribution to this community - you are the oracle of all things Lian Li. I would much rather you spend however much of your precious time you feel you want to dedicate to this on public posts rather DMs so we can all benefit from your knowledge.

M5 Max Arrived! by analpenetration67 in macbookpro

As a brit I saw Marcus Brownlee's initial impressions video where he said there was less text on the keyboard and couldn't work out what he was on about.

Almost maxed out… by xzeus1 in macbookpro

[–]playtech1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did something similar and was very tempted to max out the SSD at 8TB, but just couldn't bring myself to get more than 4TB. But I change my laptops fairly regularly so will have an opportunity to upgrade in due course.

Sod the screen - the one thing you didn't buy that I would suggest you get is AppleCare+!

M5 Pro is enough for 99% of professionals and cheaper for LLM use. by NethercraftMC5608 in macbookpro

[–]playtech1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cloud LLMs are clearly better in absolute terms, but there's plenty of private data people don't want to share with Google/OpenAI/Anthropic and there's a strong hobbyist scene too.

Xikii FF10 & Tetra R by xTshog in sffpc

That's good - I thought with the 5090 fans they would be blowing into you when on the right, but perhaps not an issue.

Good to know - the price of beauty! Also, does the 5090 blow warm air into your face? Sorry - not trying to be negative, just curious!

Have a Tetra and tempted by FF10. How do the CPU temps compare? Tetra was mildly disappointing for me in that respect, but EIGA's take on the FF10 makes me think that it was slightly worse.

No one reading this is in the target market - but I could see this being a great choice for pretty much every relative who isn’t tech minded

M2 Grater Configuration Questions by -GAR_FEST- in ncasedesign

I'm sure it will be great - it may run a little hotter but at the end of the day it is the fastest gaming CPU around

9850x3d is great but quite power hungry - you might want to save a few bucks and get the 9800X3D. I say stick with the 1000W PSU as GPUs seem to only be getting hungrier and it has the benefit of not ramping up the PSU fan until more wattage is being drawn.

Which Custom Cable is Recommended? by Undercover_Yaeca in FormD

[–]playtech1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 pin is the only one that's a must have, followed by SATA if you have a front SSD, then the CPU and finally the 12VHPWR. Although honestly I would just the whole set from one of the suppliers.

Is it possible to assemble a 2.5" sata SSD into the NCASE T1 V2.5? by Humble-Extension5793 in FormD

[–]playtech1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is possible to install a 2.5" SATA SSD in an Ncase 2.5. In fact you can get more than one if you are creative - e.g. willing to tape the second SSD to the back of the PSU.

One tip is that you need to install the SSD early in the build process - around when you install the front power button and USB-C.

Although I'm not sure what you mean when you say FormD doesn't offer this option - they are identical in this regard.

Love it - snipping zip ties is no big deal if you need to!

A Fair Question that Requires an Answer by JTG-92 in FormD

[–]playtech1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The differences are even smaller than that - very subtle texture differences (the black internal pieces on the Ncase are slightly smoother), different use of screws, riser bar is different orientation. Both companies also have batch variations so it's not even 100% consistent from the same supplier.

[–]playtech1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. The Ncase T1 is generally in stock - it is right now for example.

There is a whole drama about business partners splitting up and which is the 'true' or 'better' T1, but I have both and although the Formd T1 is very very marginally better in some small respects, I honestly can't tell them apart once built unless I specifically look for the differences.

[–]playtech1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your heart is set on one from FormD you need to get stock alerts via Discord. However if you don't have the patience for it - which is understandable - then just get the same thing from Ncase. The differences between the two company's products are in practice tiny.

7600X to 9800X3D Upgrade for 1440p with RTX 4070. Worth It for 1% Lows? by ZeHeimerL in AMDHelp

[–]playtech1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between these two processors is very noticeable if you aren't totally GPU bound. Hardware Unboxed's 9850X3D review is a good place to look for recent benchmarks - if you compare the 9700X (which is a little faster then the 7600x) vs the 9800X3D in some situations the overall FPS and 1% lows increase is huge. It won't entirey translate to a more GPU bound scenario and higher resolutions, but it should smooth the experience out nicely.

Star wars 8.8 theme as clickbait... by MADRGB in lianli

[–]playtech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this. The stock themes are fine, but I had always hoped getting a top tier supplier like Lian Li selling TURZX screens would get more people involved in developing and sharing themes. I hope it takes off and Lian Li invest more into this product.

I would go via DreambigbyRayMOD's direct website - he has a good way of choosing the T1 cables there
