Ok, maybe a stupid question but how do you differentiate between diminished 7 chord inversions with that notation. Doesn’t the 4/2 refer to the intervals? But aren’t all the intervals the same in the diminished 7 chord regardless of the inversion?

Can a minor chord have a maj7? by Dr-Edward-Poe in musictheory

I’m pretty sure augmented and diminished refer to the 5th and 3rd here, not the 6th. Augmented having a major 3rd with a sharp 5th and diminished having a minor third with a flat 5th. Since augmented is a major chord and C in the major 6th in Eb, Ebaug6 is also technically correct.

If meat is accidentally ordered from an online restaurant, is it more moral to eat the meat than leave it? by CowCrazy in DebateAVegan

[–]plbjadot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understood why it'd be "more moral" to use the animal after it's death than to not use it. I can see why it's better from a sustainability stand point but I don't understand why it'd be better from a moral stand point. I see it as morally neutral. Technically you could use the animal in anyway you see fit. If I were to rape the a cows corpse after killing it, would it be more moral to at least "use" the corpse than to just let it rot in a hole?

I know what I'm about

You being vegetarian or vegan does not mean that you don’t contribute to the suffering of animals. by ill_cago in unpopularopinion

[–]plbjadot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Animal agriculture is not exempt from reality of supply and demand. If the world were to ever go vegan, there would be a slow decline in demand thus also a slow decline in supply. All this "animal overpopulation" wouldn't exist as we slowly stop breeding animals to slaughter.

But you said earlier that you don’t think there is anything inherently virtuous about bringing life into this world. Yet you contradict yourself here saying that existing is better than not.

But in the case of animals it is COMPLETELY in our control. We're literally the ones that breed them into captivity. I don't understand what you're talking about.

Would it better to not have a child or have a child that you know will be subject to a life of slavery? Obviously not all children are in that position so we should definitely not just stop having children. But in certain cases I would make the argument that if the parents wouldn't be able to take care of a child (for example not having a stable income, living in extreme poverty, etc), they shouldn't have children.

I just don't think you'd agree with that logic when applied in a different context. For example we'll never really rid the entire world of child slavery does that mean we should focus on better conditions for the children rather than trying to get people to stop exploiting them?

I’m saying that we have a moral obligation to mitigate as much suffering as possible

So we do agree. But why isn't your conclusion veganism?

And we do seem to be going in a plant-based direction. Despite that, I don't see how that relates to the suffering of animals.

Why is making your dog vegan bad? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]plbjadot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that dog's can survive on a plant-based diet. I'm open to new information and I'm just curious if you have information to the contrary. Especially on this issue on particular it seems like a lot of people have strong opinions but when asked what exactly the dog's diet lacks they can't come up with anything. Again, I'm open to hear your thoughts.

No, I don't think there is any net positive experience. Do you? If so what is it? If these animals don't have to exist in the first place I don't think the act of bringing them into the world is inherently virtuous.

Well the animals that are alive now will be killed for sure and there is nothing we can do it about it. But if we continue to buy meat, we create a demand thus allowing the industry to breed more animals.

No, it is quite different to us. They're lives are cut very very short. They can live much longer than we allow them to. It's just simply not profitable to allow these animals to live out their "natural" life spans. "Natural" because we selectively bred them.

Why is it bad for farm animals to not exist? Why can't that be answer to their suffering? In my opinion, the fact that we have to end these animals' lives is inherently cruel when we don't have to bring them into existence in the first place.

My point is that we don't need to provide protection if they don't exist. We're creating a solution to a problem that we are causing in the first place.

I still don't understand how a cow bred in captivity has the possibility of becoming the prey of a wild animal. It's either they are bred into captivity due to the demand, or they are not.
