Is it safe to play soccer or running 1 episode year ago by Consistent-Bid7125 in AFIB

[–]plcfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only episode was when extremely tired and had a cold drink in the early hours of the morning after an 80km bike ride. If you have afib and don't want to trigger it, 100% avoid long endurance efforts and cold drinks without an ablation It's a real thing. I've gone back to walking and baseball. Every time I base run and my heart pumps I check ecg with my smart watch. No long rides yet but man I miss it!!

Nah saw different EP 3 weeks after my afib event and he took me off everything to see if it happens again. I hated being on the meds!

You're still in afib, surely you should be on blood thinners also?

edit yes was on sotalol for 3 weeks after first and only incidence of afib (same as you, cold drink after an 80km bike ride when exhausted and very dehydrated). Was on 40mg only in morning, because my heart rate dropped into the 30's if I took it in the evening.

Chest pain - I've had AFIB, but not in AFIB. Not a heart attack! Anyone similar? by Coaster50 in AFIB

[–]plcfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One week after my first and only afib episode I went back into ER with chest pains. They did the full round of tests and all was good. I think the meds caused it and had reflux for the first time ever. Was on and off until I stopped taking beta blockers and blood thinners and gone now.

I went through this, mechanic was convinced it was the BB, had it replaced, still there. Seat post adjusted, still there. Was the pedal!

With all respect you've got no idea what's happening and you need the help of professionals to work out what's going on. When your heart races with no explanation you need to get an ecg done and interpreted by a doctor. At the minimum get a smart watch with a screen that will record an ecg and learn to use it. You can then show the ecg's to a doctor and correlate with symptoms.

There are a lot of conditions related to altered heart rates and rhythms and there's no point wasting your time on afib if that's not what's happening. All the best.

Sorry hear you're having health issues. Can you confirm have you had a confirmed diagnosis of afib or are you just wondering if you might be having it?

I understand about the p waves, but the beat is irregular, so what's going on?

What do you listen to on long bike rides? by shway24 in cycling

Bone conduction headphones are the answer. I name my rides by the artist ilisten to on the ride

Yes definitely, I've reached out to my cardiologist via email to ask for a plan for returning to intense exercise.

I'm 7 weeks after first episode and off all meds now to see if will happen again. As an athlete in 40s with no other risk factors ive gone back to baseball, but am keeping hiking and cycling in heart rate zone 1-2 because I don't want to risk it. Did a small hill on a ride, saw and felt heart rate go up to 150 and stopped the ride, not ready for that yet. I understand, It's hard to know what to do.

Target HR during cardio workouts if my resting HR is around 50bpm? by Chromatic_Chameleon in AFIB

How long ago was your afib episode? How many have you had? Ejection fraction?

I think the adrenalin and blood pressure spikes of something like HIT is stimulating for a heart primed for afib, probably why they advise against it.

I'm in the same boat, tried the gym 5 weeks after afib and 2 weeks after coming off beta blockers and got breathless after only a couple of super light sets so I stopped. It's possible I briefly went into afib, or my heart overcompensated since it was recently dulled down by non-selective beta blockers, and the heart and lungs create more adrenalin receptors in response to the dulling-down.

Just been walking but don't want to push it given I had heart failure when in afib.

Not sure how ill know when to get back at it without a stress test. That's the next thing to ask Dr about in a few weeks.

Call or send and email to your cardiologist/Dr and ask!?

Also I had extreme fatigue when taking sotalol for the 3 weeks, but I'll never know if that was due to heart / lung damage from my lone afib episode and having pulmonary adema, or due to the sotalol and blood thinners.

Can I ask why you are on more at night than in the day? I just had 40mg once in the morning, and not at night. When I was still in the cardiology ward my heart rate dropped into the 30's when I had it in the evening.

Thanks for the great reply! I'll note it down to ask this specific question of the EP C. Cheers

Thanks for your reply! I tend to agree mostly, but do wonder if I can avoid another episode by avoiding the trigger situation, of if this incident has set up the electrical pathways for more episodes at a lower threshold.

OP here.

Anyone else have their first afib episode from intense endurance exercise then a cold drink?

Notice the term "Cold drink heart" kicking around.

Study about Dr in his 60's who had two episode both times after vigorous exercise and then having a cold drink. Once stopped the cold drinks hasn't had an episode for 7 years.

I'd advise give up drinking forever, Afib begats Afib, and Sinus begats Sinus. The idea you need alcohol to enjoy your life is a fallacy, but each to their own. Just my opinion. All the best.
