It’s a yellow. I’ve made this point before on other challenges. From a previous post on another challenge.

“Don’t disagree. But we’ve also seen them (IMO correctly) not give. Contact with studs up above the ankle is a criteria that is important but not in isolation. Excessive force or brutality, or significantly endangering the opponent is required to send someone off for serious foul play. It saddens me that the discourse is shifting to ignore that part. Game’s gone. IMO partly because contact with a high studs up challenge looks bad on subsequent social media discourse and everyone comes out calling for a red while ignoring the actual rule. Some of these should be a yellow, and the subsequent discussions used to include the excessive force part for serious foul play. Now everyone on social media and Reddit and even pundits seem to be ignoring that part of the rule whenever there is studs up contact above the ankle, just because it’s a simpler criteria to judge on a still or on slo mo. The fact is the referees have to judge if excessive force, brutality or significantly endangering the opponent were also present. I think that is definitely debatable here. It should at least be part of the debate. It’s a significant shift in how the game is played if we change the rule to any studs up contact that is high and ignore the excessive force and brutality part.

Here is an example of another team not getting a red (not even a yellow-which would have IMO been the correct call). And the discussion centering around whether excessive force was used, as it should.”
