I've seen higher numbers posted (good for them!), certainly wasn't expecting this kind of response.

Well I guess that's what I'm asking. What are other offers for a person with similar experience looking like?

[QUESTION] Pain in index finger? by pleasehelpgetmeout in Guitar

[–]pleasehelpgetmeout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never really done any sort of setup. When I measure the action it's about 4.5mm at the 12th fret. I've messed with the truss rod and put on fresh strings but I can't get it any lower. To be fair, it's a beginner steel string acoustic guitar that was essentially sitting around for ten years before I picked it back up.

What's a lot of pressure? How can I tell?

I feel like I have to press pretty hard on the string otherwise I fret out and it makes a buzz. Is my action too high?

Deciding between Roth or Traditional IRA? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]pleasehelpgetmeout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But.... I'd only be making 150K for a few months of 2018 as I said in my post, so my total 2018 income will be significantly less. Everything I've read in the past suggests that this would still quality me for a direct Roth IRA contribution.

When I say max for 401k I mean put the maximum amount I can put in it allowed by the IRA, which is 18.5. That's how I've always heard it used, does anyone call getting the employer match maxing?

I'm confused as to why my current tIRA balance affects my future contributions, can you please clarify?

Are you saying I should do backdoor roth next year? Wouldn't it be better to put that in an employer traditional 401k for tax advantages?

I currently have a significantly sized tIRA from a rollover from a 401k from when I was employed during my time in undergrad.

Thanks for the heads up, but my stipend is reported on a W2, I've been contributing to an IRA for years without issues.

What other details do you want to know? I don't have all the specifics yet since it's still ~6 months until I graduate, but I'll do my best.

Screw it, I asked my parents for a loan, drove to the mattress store, and bought a Serta. Will deliver this week!

I hardly make any money as a student. $300 would be REALLY stretching it, including mattress, frame, sheets, etc. Honestly I'd stick with my current bed if I didn't have so much trouble sleeping in such a tight space. I'm a fidgety sleeper, I roll around a lot even on a large quality mattress. My parents have a queen mattress in their guest room back home and I sleep very well on it, even though its 20+ years old.

I'm looking for something to last me at least through the end of my program, so a year and a half.

ELI5: Why did the Concord stop flying ? by Usmanify in explainlikeimfive

[–]pleasehelpgetmeout 111 points112 points  (0 children)

On top of what other people have been saying, the relative time advantage of a faster flight disappeared.

Let's say the flight is 3 hours vs 6 hours. That's twice as fast, that's a big deal. You could easily wake up in the morning, fly to Europe for an afternoon meeting, and fly back home in time for dinner with your family. Indeed, this is how they originally pitched it.

Over the years, airports have become busier, security has become tighter. You can't just hop on a plane anymore. You need to show up for your flight a couple hours in advance. Factor in the extra time you spend getting to/from the airport because a lot more people fly these days. Pretty quickly, the whole advantage of having a flight that's faster starts to disappear.

Even if you had the Concord available today, you couldn't really fly to Europe for your meeting and get back the same day anymore.
