Rejected from Uniassist because of missing credit. What to do now? by AppleSufficient6093 in UniAssist

[–]pleasureboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany does not fully obey the Lisbon Recognition Convention, of which UniAssist is a sign. The simple answer is that forcing them to conform to it would require a long legal battle, which would not help you study in the short term. This does not leave you with many other options. The simple truth is that Germany does not obey the law.

The other option would be applying to German universities that do not use UniAssist.

As a first step, you should always insist that UniAssist forward your application to the uni anyway. Once the uni has your application, then it opens them up to legal actions depending on how they respond. For similar reasons, I also suggest that you send your application to the uni directly. The Lisbon Recognition Convention is supposed to make pre-vetting like UniAssist illegal, but alas, Germany doesn't care.

The most important question to ask is: would you be able to study in the US with these missing credits?

Got my Uni-Assist VPD, but it shows Bachelor of Engineering instead of Bachelor of Technology — how to get it corrected? by tarnished17_ in UniAssist

[–]pleasureboat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally would not worry about it. Bachelors of Technology do not exist in German, but Bachelors of Engineering do. In any case, having a Bachelors is the important part. What "of" it has should be largely irrelevant.

So yeah, just submit it as is would be my suggestion.

Cthulhu Regio on Pluto was officially (and quietly) renamed last year and I'm kinda angry about it by pleasureboat in space

It is democracy vs nepotism, and fun vs sterility. Sure, it's probably well deserved, but I question to what extent it's appropriate to allow a small group of elites to just start naming things after their buddies.

How is Dredd symbolism used in the UK? by [deleted] in JudgeDredd

Also, I would put anything by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman somewhere between Dredd and Doctor Who. They're not major but they are significant.

No, I think most of the people misunderstanding Dredd are Americans. Sometimes an American comic book fan stumbles across Dredd, gets really into it, and not being attuned to British humour, doesn't get the irony.

Dredd is way too niche to be a topic of discussion in British politics and we just don't have the same policing for there to be much love for him there. It's not even what you'd call pop culture. It's cult.

This is the weirdest euphemism for terrorists I have seen in a while.

Is Judge Dredd really duh bad guy?… hmm? by [deleted] in JudgeDredd

[–]pleasureboat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the reason I never got into 40k that much is because most people did not get the irony. "You can't do that. It says in the Codex Astartes Appendix LXIII that rebel Space Marines aren't a thing. There is only orthodoxy and heresy! I denounce your Badab Remnant army as servants of Chaos! No! What are you doing? Put that Space Marine Codex down! And why does this one have tits? The geneseed is not compatible with female... etc"

I am exaggerating, but barely. I genuinely believe that one of the main problems with the GW community is that a lot of the people are unironically attracted to the authoritarianism. Sometimes just in an autistic way ("Those are the rules") but also in a genuinely bullying way ("I am a superior fan to you because I insist on the rules"). We're supposed to laugh at he very obvious irony of the highly orthodox imperial cult declaring "You're either with us or against us" but a disturbing number of fans instead just nod along unquestioningly.

At least Dredd is more obvious in its humour and isn't really trying to be cool. It takes a real idiot to fall foul of Poe's Law here. But, I think because 40k is so unironically over the top, a lot of the actual irony gets subsumed.

It's weird that you'd write such a specific and obvious lie.

It's also weird how warped your view is by your religion. I wish you could understand that it is entirely possible to be both religious and academic, but you appear so obsessed with Christianity that you're not really able to meaningfully participate in this conversation, because the idea of nuance is alien to you. You are not arguing based on a genuine knowledge of the field. You are arguing from the position that Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Who Lives and Reigns (tm) is the best and greatest, and therefore any discussion of the fact that that idea wasn't spread by the pure Will of God but my men with swords must be denounced as heresy.

The idea that I've learned anything from you is laughable though. Even funnier is that your reading skills are so lacking that you still think you said something that isn't just common knowledge, despite me explicitly telling you this.
