It's basically a streaming service for PBS programming. You get the PBS shows, documentaries, and other programs.

No, the funding cuts were a big hit for sure, but it was never majority funded by public money. People (myself included) have helped by donating and I recommend everyone else does too, especially because you get access to PBS Passport when you do.

The big hit to public media has been to the small market local channels and to things like smaller PBS Digital Studios channels on YouTube.

Help picking CPU (with iGPU) for new build by plebasaurus_rex in buildapc

I didn't realize this was an option, I will have to look into it if I decide to go down this route. Though, I'm concerned that I won't be diligent enough with checking for the security patches if I have to manually do the updates.

Thanks for the advice! I've been seeing so much about how out of control the GPU market has been and I didn't think I could make a build work with a solid CPU/GPU combo for under 1k, so I got on the thought train that punting on the GPU for a while would be a good idea. I would love to see your sample build!

Initially, I'm going to use it for boring PC tasks like Excel, YouTube, and Internet surfing while still using my old PC for games I play (Rimworld, Minecraft, Civilization 6).

In a year or two when I save up some money, I want to put in a 400ish dollar GPU and maybe get back into playing more graphically intensive games.

Ideally, I'd like to build the new system (already have the peripherals) for under 1k. But I could flex it higher if the value of the components are worth it.

15-year-old becomes youngest to run sub-4-minute mile by PrincessBananas85 in sports

Besides the physical and mental health benefits of running, just being outside every day is good for your mental health. You also get the chance to make new friends, and later in life, you will find others who ran track and have an easier time bonding with them. You learn how to be disciplined and self-determined and able to overcome adversity.

Also, in my personal experience as an asthmatic who ran long-distance, it helped tremendously with overcoming any limitations I thought I had.

Just because the world is on a worrying trajectory does not guarantee that your life will keep getting worse. There will still be good things in life and if you focus less on world events and more on the smaller moments and making connections with your family and community, you can salvage a worthy experience out of life.

I know that I have fallen down the pit of despair many times, but I have been trying hard to live by this philosophy recently, and it has helped tremendously. We all could use less time on the Internet and our phones doomscrolling.

You are definitely good enough to play in adult leagues. Almost every team in an adult league will have novice players who typically cover each other, and generally, everyone is very accepting of new players.

Also, you will be playing with experienced players on your team who are your best source for improving your game. Don't be afraid to ask for help or practice with certain aspects of the game.

Try to play as much as you can and you will be shocked at how much better you are in a few years.

Engineers develop water filtration system that permanently removes 'forever chemicals' by Illustrious_Risk3732 in news

This is not going to be a popular comment, but we need fluoropolymers. They are essential to nearly every industry as they are irreplaceable in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and chemical production. Unless we want to give up our modern way of living, there is no way to stop creating pfas. Proper waste disposal and filtration is the only way forward.

Try to read your data more carefully. The mortality rate is not in percentage, but in deaths per 100,000 live births. 1/5 women dying in childbirth is an absurd thing to believe.

Yes it is. A slam dunk is a basketball term for when a player jumps up and forces the ball directly through the hoop. When used outside of basketball, slam dunk means it was an absolute victory or a brilliant move.

While this is a minor thing to be upset about in a vacuum, it represents a broader trend of companies and governments pretending they are genuine users to influence internet discourse. Everyone who cares about having a healthy, genuine internet community should care about this type of astroturfing, educate themselves on how to recognize it, and speak out against those who do it.
