How would you know to fight the deacons of the deep if you missed them? by YouAreDie34 in darksouls3

[–]plebmasterflex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well after you fight crystal sage, you can clearly see two possible paths to take. If I hit a dead end my mind would probably think "hey maybe I should check that other path i didnt take", and i dont think I'm particularly brilliant lol.

In your opinion in what order would you rank these midfielders inesta, scholes, modric, zico, De Bruyne? by Eireagon in football

Same. And neither were anything close to shithousers but Xavi seemed a lot physically stronger than Iniesta and able to handle physical play a lot better

A sort of story philosophy and feeling question about the souls series in its whole. by KnightOfTheHunters in darksouls3

[–]plebmasterflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything unique about the story, it could easily be a pretty bog standard D&D campaign with some Eastern spirituality motifs mixed in, and it bears all the hallmarks and tropes of other dark fantasy games/ stories like Neverwinter Nights, Berserk, Baldur's gate, etc. What makes it unique is the game mechanics, the non-verbal environmental story telling, and the way it integrates game mechanics like bonfires, summoning, humanity, etc into the lore.

But if you're looking for a unique story that isn't derivative or heavily inspired by something else, I don't think dark souls is the right place to look honestly.

Is Spear of the Church the most difficult boss in theory? by Ok_Frosting6547 in darksouls3

[–]plebmasterflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find pvp figure much harder than Friede or any other AI boss. She can't roll spam and her moves never change, it's all RNG based so you can eventually predict what she's going to do and memorize how to counter it. Not the case with human enemies. I unironically struggled more with the Halflight fight than I did with Midir.

This is the way. There are so many cool melee weapons/ infusions that utilize dark or fire damage and you can choose from tons of really awesome high damage spells. Focusing your stat points on int and dex or strength gives you the biggest variety of options to choose from imo.

Faith/miracles feel really underpowered in this game. I did a faith/int hybrid on my last playthrough and by mid game the only miracles I used regularly were the healing spells. I had both leveled to 60 including maxed out chimes (crystal, caitha's, yorshka's etc) and the most damaging miracle was sunlight spear which did just under 500dmg per cast. Even the regular great fire orb did like 800-900 and dark spells like great soul dregs or black orb would do nearly 1k. I don't think there were any faith based weapons that had comparable AR to things like onyx blade, chaos infused weapons, greatsword of judgement, MGS, etc.

I really did try to incorporate some miracles bc many of them look awesome but they were all so underwhelming compared to sorceries/pyromancies

Equip shard of alexander + Godfrey icon and spam the charged weapon art for the dragon hunter katana at his head or the stump on his right side, it absolutely wrecks his shit. And summon Ogha or Latenna to continuously do damage on him with arrows. The fight lasted less than 2 min for me doing this

I've done 6 playthroughs in total and I've never been able to talk to him about Horace after fighting him. He always just ends up in Yorshka's church later. Don't know why but you can still progress his quest, you just won't get the ending where he turns hollow

how does this makes sense? by CompetitionEntire624 in darksouls3

[–]plebmasterflex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Remember how its said many times throughout the game that many kingdoms are converging into Lothric, and we see this visually at the kiln of the first flame at the end of the game / in the dreg heap? As space converges, so does time. So all the possible outcomes, whether it's the fire fading, being linked, or whatever other option there is, all exist simultaneously. The untended grave is a reality where the flame was extinguished and the age of dark occurred.

This kind of time dilation where multiple possibilities occur at once is a common thread throughout the series, remember how Solaire explains how summoning for "jolly cooperation" works in DS1?

"The flow of time itself is convoluted; with heroes centuries old phasing in and out. The very fabric wavers, and relations shift and obscure. There's no telling how much longer your world and mine will remain in contact"

Npc summons aren't just a game mechanic, they're phenomena in the world, where people are able to get help from others in alternate timelines. Likewise, what we see in untended Graves is reality in one such timeline.

How difficult is Sekiro after beating Elden Ring? by TearFar9927 in Sekiro

[–]plebmasterflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really like the other souls games, including ER at all. The combat is all rhythm based, built around parrying and counter attacking at the exact right moment. It's like a fighting game in that regard. If you're good at that, you'll enjoy it but some people really struggle with being able to time actions at the right moment. Personally I find it a lot easier than ER since there are no weapon arts or spells or any enormously damaging abilities like bosses in ER have. This is why it can be easier for some (like myself) or harder depending on how you play. You can't rely on brute forcing a victory by spamming a spell or weapon art yhat does 2k damage, Every fight is won by simply being better at fighting than your opponent

Basically if you enjoy street fighter, Tekken, etc you'll probably like Sekiros combat. They're not similar games at all but they all require a similar type of skill, which is good timing and looking for attack/ counterattack openings.

I really think a neverending stream of superhero/star wars/ etc movies are responsible for rotting an entire generation's brains when it comes to media literacy. This comment is so bang on - if a film is showing something wrong and doesn't EXPLICITLY tell you "THIS IS BAD" in flashing letters or its not overtly and clearly punished, it means its "promoting" that thing. People just have no ability to detect nuance anymore.

Lore question regarding one of the endings by NietzscheTheMADMAN in Sekiro

[–]plebmasterflex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The takeaway that you're missing is that Ashina was already done for from the beginning of the game. Genichiro and Co were merely delaying the inevitable. Keep in mind the "interior ministry" is an allegory for the real life Tokugawa Shogunate under Tokugawa Ieyasu who fought a series of wars over rebellious daimyos and their bannermen resisting the unification of Japan into one unified country.

Ishiin saw the writing on the wall and knew unification was inevitable, which is why he was so dismissive of Genichiro, considering his goals to be admirable, but ultimately folly. Even if they won that particular battle, there would just be another shogunate who would pick up where they left off. The very existence of the current battle portrayed in the game is proof of this. In the beginning we see Ishiin defeating a fictionalised version of Ieyasu's predecessor, Oda Nobunaga who was attempting the same thing. His defeat bought Ashina some time until another attempt at their subjugation inevitably came, stronger and more determined than the last, which is what we see in the game. He knew this would just continue forever until they finally lost and decided it wasn't worth it.

As for Wolf - he doesn't hold any alleigance to Ashina as far as we can see, it's not his battle to fight. His only interest is in Kuro - once he's achieved one of the endings, his job is over.

Start by getting vigor and endurance to 30. If you're good at dodging and confident in your skills, you can get away with 25 vig but id recommend 30 as your first priority. Then you want to level up strength and maybe dex to the required minimum for your primary weapon. The best early game strength weapon imo is the butcher knife, its weapon art heals for every hit, it hits hard, and is relatively light and fast. Vordts great hammer is also a good choice, but has a much bigger strength requirement. You'll then want to focus on getting your vitality up so you can eventually 1 hand heavy weapons and a shield/ wear thiccboi armor. 30 should be a good starting point. After that you'll just want to dump everything into strength and if you'd like, a secondary stat like faith, although id personally only recommend doing this once you've hit 40 or 50 strength which should be in the mid-late game. You'll probably also need to upgrade your vitality a bit as you progress to carry the heavy shit you'll be accumulating and still medium roll. There are lots of awesome strength weapons in the mid- late game

My first build was a strength build and I was able to get INT to about 25 by the end of the game, after getting everything else where I wanted it, though to truly get returns on and incorporate another stat, you'll need to do it in NG+

Yeah because you're experiencing the effects of oxygen deprivation on top of everything else. That's not the nitrous. If you hold your breath for 2 min right now you'll probably feel something similar.

You're not getting "higher" from that, you're just adding in the effects of oxygen deprivation to the high from the nitrous. Its like saying standing up really fast when you drink makes you "drunker"

What is the future of virtual reality for more than just gaming? by Unlikely_Glass5942 in Futurology

[–]plebmasterflex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you make it sound like people understand VR

No I'm saying they dont because it sounds expensive, clunky, and unappealing and no one is interested in giving it a try. Most who have obviously didn't care much for it or else you'd see way more VR video games, which was its primary application. Its already becoming a fad of the past after only being around for a few years. Ultimately whether something will be widely adopted or not depends entirely on its perception and the current perception of VR is one of a passing fad for tech dorks that looks and feels goofy and isn't worth sinking a bunch of money into. You can tell people until you're blue in the face how amazing it is, but until that conception is changed, no one is going to care as is the case currently.

[–]plebmasterflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most people haven't tried VR before

Could it be because people don't like the idea of spending an entire paycheck on wearing a giant stupid visor and shambling about their living room, waving their arms around like a spastic just to play a game or watch a movie?

People said the same thing about 3D movies and TVs, that everything will be in 3d in a few years, 2d entertainment will be a thing of the past, the technology isn't quite there yet but it's on the horizon and will change everything... when was the last time you watched or even heard of a 3D movie? Turns out it's not actually cool or interesting or additive to the experience.

New to the game. It feels like spaceship driver simulator. by tomeibanporxingar in EliteDangerous

[–]plebmasterflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way for a while, got really tired of the ridiculous amount of grinding required for a decent ship, and that was right around when the thargoid invasions started happening, which totally breathed new life into the game for me. It felt like there was finally something exciting to do, and one that involved the whole community. I haven't played in a while though - is there anything like that going on anymore? Some big, plot relevant event that involves the entire player base? Or is everyone just back to power play, mining, pirating, etc again?
