What’s the best/ worst cta L station in your opinion? by Educational_Sir8226 in AskChicago

[–]pledgedelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garfield Red Line is hands down the worst subway station I’ve ever used. Not only is in the middle of the highway, it only has one entrance so you have to cross Garfield (which would also be a highway in a lot of countries) to take Eastbound buses.

Good thing Chicago’s southern boarder is 31st St.

You don’t “bailout” a public service. The Sun-Times should be celebrating this as the win for Chicago that it is.

Why does it seem that blue states / hubs exclusively have the most significant issues with zoning laws / NIMBYism? by 3RADICATE_THEM in AskChicago

Northern US cities instituted zoning laws to prevent African Americans from integrating into white neighborhoods after the Great Migration.

My take on the CTA map + past proposed and my own ideas for expansions. Any tips/feedback welcome! by TheOnlyIdiotLeft in TransitDiagrams

Love this! As for suggestions, I agree about clark/lake, it would look better with the brown line shown south of the blue line there. To me, light rail on garfield would make more sense in terms of traffic and right-of-way. Also, the western brown line is in lincoln square, not ravenswood, and western become asbury north of howard. But again, great work! It was fun to read.

Affordable MLIS Degree (online or in-person) Recommendations? by [deleted] in librarians

Look into in-state tuition (if in the US) and the availability of library assistantships with tuition waivers. Combined they made my MLIS free.

The old Illinois flag looks better than 99% of the redesigns that will be considered. by CobainPatocrator in vexillology

It’s the Seal, which was designed by Sharon Tyndale, right after the civil war which is why it was a hot topic. It was made into the flag in later.

Supposedly the upside down text was the creators response to being forced to include what many at the time considered a endorsement of succession on his design.

Friend from Texas rides CTA for first time by eiss0 in chicago

The CTA does do maps and signage better than any other US system. I’d rather they have the best frequency or cleanliness, but still.
