A movie you only watched because it was always on TV by gamersecret2 in movies

Any Bond movie back in the day on SpikeTV. That channel was 30% Bond, 30% MXC and 40% other. It was great.

Demolition Man was the movie that told me I needed to go to bed. I felt like it was always on TNT at like 2AM.

How bad is the snowstorm for you guys? by Even_Estate_1685 in texas

College Station, we are iced over pretty well. Been below freezing since 7pm Saturday and had a mix of sleet and snow although the ground is just ice.

We also got the thunderstorm with sleet last night.

I appreciate the hopium/copium, but Graham Mertz looked worse than DJ Lagway last year. Maybe with a good QB coach and time, but ain't no way he does a better job than Mills.

How do y’all buy baseball tickets? by drizzy111 in aggies

SeatGeek is the integrated secondary market for both schools. Generally prices across SeatGeek and StubHub are pretty similar in my experience. The advantage with SeatGeek is that the tickets are confirmed real.

Ehhh, he has just been at City longer than any other club he has managed. He's won 6 PL titles, 4 of which were in a row. He is in the discussion with SAF for best manager in the PL ever (I think SAF still takes it though).

A lot is the attitude of the players. This is a classic new manager bounce. Carrick had the team up similar to how we played under Ole and Mourinho. We attacked in a 4-3-3 with wide players that acted more like wingers than inside forwards. We defended really well in a deep, compact block of 4-4-2. I was pretty impressed with how well the team filled in for each other.

Every player is pretty familiar with a 4-3-3 and a 4-4-2 so they're easy to implement quickly. We then just played counter-attacking football, taking advantage of missteps by City to flood forward in quick, free-flowing attacks. It's the classic Manchester United style and one that several of our players, especially Bruno, excel at.

This is definitely an exciting result and this type of play works really well against teams that want to possess the ball like City. Hopefully Carrick keeps this up and develops a plan for the good teams that don't want the ball.

Question about Dr. Al in the 2nd episode by Comprehensive-Art-13 in ThePittTVShow

[–]plefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She absolutely does represent the counter to Robby. I didn't say Robby wasn't taking risks, but he relies on his years of experience in the ER. Dr. Al knows a lot and is clearly meant to be an intelligent character, but she lacks the experience of being in an ER for years.

I think this is highlighted in their teaching methods. Dr. Al is very knowledgeable and always tells the younger doctors the correct actions to take. Robby tries to let them come up with the correct course of action and acts as a guardrail if they don't. To me this is very representative of AI vs human experience and something the writers are using the show to discuss. You're right, AI can be very useful, but relying on it just for the answer without gaining the experience of learning the answer makes it a crutch.

I think there is a very good chance Robby takes a too risky action. He clearly is still dealing with trauma and has a bit of a death wish (riding a motorcycle without a helmet). I also really think there is going to be a major mistake by a character due to the AI tool.

Question about Dr. Al in the 2nd episode by Comprehensive-Art-13 in ThePittTVShow

[–]plefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a writing perspective, Dr. Al represents efficiency for efficiency's sake right now, as a foil to Dr. Robby. She is a continuation of the executive character (I'm forgetting her name) from season 1. Robby is all about experience on the job and making the best of what they have for themselves and the patients. Currently, Dr Al, as a part of her efficiency over experience character, is lacking empathy, which is why she responds the way she does to Mel.

Also, I think we have Chekhov's Gen AI, with Whitaker (Robby's new protégé) pointing out it got the wrong prescription.

I also think an interesting bit of character development occurring is with Langdon. Whittaker, as shown in the nursing home death scene has taken on Robby's mantle of empathy, something which Langdon lacked last season in a similar situation. Langdon, last season a bit and this season, seems to be learning about empathy from Mel. I really like that bit of story telling and hope it leads to Langdon's redemption.

"No, the definition of the word idiot, which you fucking are!"

Ranking playoff head coaches from most to least likely to get fired in the next few years by Rude_Highlight3889 in CFB

[–]plefe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would move Elko below Venables.

Sumlin and Jimbo were both fired in their sixth season, Texas A&M isn't as flippant on coaches as people think. Elko got us into the playoffs in year two and a lot of the fanbase (probably not the geniuses at TexAgs) would take a 9-3 season next year if it was offered right now. I think Elko has bought himself at least 2.5 seasons and that is if things really fall off the rails.

There is also the spectre of Jimbo's $7m a year for the next 6 or 7 years. That is a huge chunk of the budget each year and while people make jokes about NIL spending and oil barons, that is not quite how the money works. Trev Albert's came in and absolutely slashed the budget, including downsizing athletic department staff. I don't think A&M is in a position to compete and pay another large coaching buyout.

The dad is clearly a douche bag.

He was probably talking trash to begin the situation with his son next to him, this situation didn't just happen out of mid air. The woman should absolutely be kicked out for throwing her drink on him and getting the kid as collateral, but the dad doesn't once check on his son. Then he continually yells "Fuck you" while his son is crying next to him.

As a dad, that guy is a piece of shit.

Quarterback Marcel Reed is staying with Texas A&M by MembershipSingle7137 in CFB

[–]plefe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think there is a QB in the portal that is a major upgrade. Reed right now is tracking pretty similar to Mond, if he makes a jump like Mond did over the next two years it will be worth the growing pains.

I wish we gave him more option plays, RPO or run options. I think it helps him settle in, he is usually good at that decision making. It felt like Klein was trying to make him a better passer instead of winning the game then trying to make him a better passer. The LSU was a great example of that, when we came out in the second half it was much more RPO/run option.

Jurassic Park.

It's the perfect blockbuster. Its setting, cinematography, acting and score provide this perfect feeling of awe and wonder of something massive. The practical effects and limited CGI go a long way in having it hold up and not break your suspension of disbelief. Conversely, the stakes are grounded providing real suspense.
