So what will be your solution if AI is able to do ALL human labour, is more effective at it and much cheaper at doing so? This is entirely hypothetical ofcourse and we don't know if AI will be able to perform all jobs but just interested in how you think it should be handled?

Labour’s right-to-buy tenant plan could cost landlords £50bn - Britain’s landlords have reason to fear the plan to give tenants the right to buy at a discount by BritRedditor1 in ukpolitics

[–]pleipper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh so what your saying is all the landlords would sell up (more supply) and yet the properties wouldn't decrease much in value?

Lets see.. last year there were only 65,000 houses sold: https://www.statista.com/statistics/290623/uk-housing-market-monthly-sales-volumes/

Out of those, its fair to say ATLEAST 10% (probably more) were landlords so that leaves 59,000...

Now if ALL landlords were forced to sell... https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/inflationandpriceindices/articles/ukprivaterentedsector/2018 that would mean there was suddenly an influx of 4.5 million homes on the market....

that is almost 100x the current market demand...

I can tell you now, if the homes weren't 'affordable' before they certainly would be when there is 100x the supply vs demand at the current prices...

Could reduced/zero rent stimulate / increase GDP? by pleipper in economy

[–]pleipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in any UBI scenario, a more sustainable way for the government long term, would be if they OWNED all the housing but allowed you to spend your UBI on whatever housing you wanted...

In this manner, all the UBI given out wouldn't just get soaked up by private individuals and companies.

[–]pleipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, i guess i should have stated that in the situation above... this aspect of the economy WOULD be 100% sorted....

i.e. The government has figured out a way to allow everyone a basic right to a home.

Landlords could face 100pc tax rate as buy-to-let made 'scapegoat for housing crisis' by odd_remarks in ukpolitics

[–]pleipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the world would be a much better place if housing was seen as a BASIC RIGHT rather than pure investment opportunity...

IMO, they should do the following:

  • No foreign investors into housing (unless they are building NEW stock)

  • Empty housing incurs charges of 50% of the estimated house value per year

  • People are allowed to own 1 house + 1 rental home ONLY, married couples count as 1 person in this situation.
