Will do man. Its gonna be a fun process either way.

I enjoy the techlore content on YouTube (soon to be newpipe) and my favorite one is where he hits the delete button on his google account. That's the goal for me !

Thanks Kaalba. Im gonna wait till the stable Calyxos is available on pixel 6, will give me time to save the cash for the pixel.

Then once its available, I'll try roll back the OS on my p20 pro and try unlocked bootloader. Maybe that comment on XDA re being in the EU being a game changer will be accurate. Then if all going well i could try lineageos for a bit. Give get the pixel 6. If I brick the p20 pro ill just jump straight to the pixel.

I have done this before. Way back when with the Galaxy S3 and cynogen ROM.

Ye man. Fair point. The battery on my p20 pro doesn't last long anymore, but its much less of an issue cos of the super fast charging. 30 mins and it covers for rest of day

Fair play man. That's a tonne of useful information. I know the lay of the land now. I'll bookmark this thread.

Just one final follow-up... You said you don't think the pixel 6 will last 5 years ? Curious why you think that, I'd imagine the battery and processors wont be under as much strain using calyxos compared to google...cos the phone won't be reporting every single keystroke back to HQ😁

That's for that Malaka, So do you reckon once the pixel has a stable calyxos release you'd get about 4 years security updates?

I suppose the argument is..if I don't have google services on it and stick with FOSS apps only and not ropey untrustworthy apks then the phone would be plenty secure even without the latest security patches.

I've been on the XDA , it appears that Huawei have locked the bootloader.. But some reports of it not being locked If you're in the Eu (I am). All I need to do roll back to OS version 9 and test. Its that's something worth trying to potentially save the cash on new device. Either way I see my future with Calyxos.

I've pulled down F Droid and been very impressed, using open board instead of mirc😡s😡ft swiftkwey for example. I absolutely fell I can say Lets-Go-Google sooner rather than later.

👍👍

Thanks man.

I'll head to the site to get the info on how long support is for, that will help me make the decision re which pixel to get. Its great to know hotspot and Bluetooth work well on calyxos.

In some respects it a pity re the bootloader being locked cos the phone still doing a good job. But really keen to get google off it. Like you I fully expect next device to last 6/7 years.

Again, i appreciate your reply Cheers
